Currently deployed and am making a "budget" shopping list for a 270rwkw build on my ecr33 4dr when I return home. Have been digging through this forum and others (using the search tab of course). I have the bare essentials, but i want to make this build as reliable as possible without breaking the bank. My question is, for strictly street use and an occasional heavy foot, what is absolutely necessary to do to the rb25det for the oil issues it has? I was thinking just putting in smaller restrictors, maybe drilling out the current drains a little bigger, and a newer oil pump to replace the less reliable unit that comes stock. Are these mods good enough for street use? Should I do more or something else? Also, whats a good oil pump for my needs? I don't want anything crazy, just more durable. I've seen a lot of threads about this, but they really only pertain to drag/track/etc.

Thanks in advance

Strictly speaking, you don't really need to do anything for your power level and usage model. Except maybe the recommended restrictors.

Particularly for your plan, I would not consider drilling the oil returns. If the engine will be apart, I might radius the top ends a little.

If you want to do anything useful for breathing and oil return, a hose connecting from above oil level in sump up to the cam covers is the right idea. This is described very nicely in the last 100 pages or so of the oil control thread. Also so easy to do if the engine will be apart anyway.

Any good pump upgrade is a good idea. If the engine is apart, it makes sense to look into the pump drive and make sure that whoever is putting it together isn't a f**kwit.

You have to be careful with N1 pumps. They used to be a good thing. Then there was a period of time where they were apparently not from the original factory/stock and there were a lot of failures. I'm not sure where they are at right now.

The 25Neo oil pump is an original N1.

Agreed, nothing is really required for heavy foot street use.

Oil problems start to show at sustained high revs (where you end up with excess oil in the head) and sustained high gs (where the oil in the sump moves away from the pick up). Put both together like lapping a track and you can get problems.

Yep, since it's apart, that is exactly what I would do, plus adding in sump baffles for the standard sump. Minor change but can help a little for little cost.

    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.
    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
