Depending on what head you plan on using...since you are using the rb25de head, you have no vvt. So the best option would be to use the rb20det loom as it has no vvt as well, and the rb20det Power FC...make sense?

I think the best place to start is what car do you currently have? Then work from there.

My preference would be to use an RB25DET PFc if you can. You dont need to have it running the vvt, and it is $400 cheaper.

Do all years of RB25DET have variable valve timing?

The project car the motor is for is a 260Z, so that is neither here nor there but it does allow me to have free range of what skyline parts to use.

Are all the sensors common between the RB25DE and the RB20DET i.e. will the loom plug into everything or will some chopping and changing need to be done.

Will this affect injector style?

R32 came out with the two engines =Rb20det, Rb25de....

I assumed you were putting it in a different type of car other than a skyline....

saying that the sensors might not be the same between the rb25det and rb20/25de...not so sure if they are compaitble, which may mean getting all 25det sensors...added cost

I got my Power FC and HC for $1600 brand new...not too expensive. They do come up now and again, and arnt hard to get hold of.

yup Ap Engineering version on the RB31DET.

Ive got a mate Using a RB25de (with 26 internals) and he is using the rb20det loom, using the 25de knock and oil pressure sensors. The only difference in the two is the AAC valve i think...check the difference between the two engine sensors (ie rb20 to 25de) to see if there any different. I did and only came up with the AAC valve being different between the two models....and use a rb20 afm :D

edit/ the rb25de and rb20det use the same injectors - top feed red tops...same cc as well i think....

I'm also using an AP PowerFC & H/C for the RB30DET that I picked up for $1100 delivered, 1 year old.

With your setup you will need the RB20DET loom and an AP Engineering PowerFC.

The injectors and sensors between the R32 RB25DE & R32 RB20DET are the same.

If you went with the R33's VCT head obviously the use of a R33 RB25DET loom and RB25DET powerfc would be required.

I'm unsure if the R32 RB25DE loom has the extra's such as MAP sensor & knock sensor wires running back to the ecu. I would have to check the wiring diag in the engine manual. Either way its not hard to run a couple of wires you are missing back to the ecu.

Ok cool, thankx. soory to be a pain but would it be too much trouble to check the wiring diagram?? just trying to get out of changing over to the rb20det loom, could i use the 25de loom with the addition of an aftermarket boost controller? thanks again mate, help is much appreciated.

I wouldn't worry too much about the N/A and turbo loom differences.

Wires can always been ran back to the ecu. All you need is the pinout.

If you want the r32/r33 engine manual let me know. It contains the wiring diags.

I decided to throw a few x 3 Jonnie Walker cans back tonight (with family) so I'm kind of tanked. No good me looking at a wiring diagram.

hehe sounds good. Mate would it be alot of trouble of for you to e-mail me the engine wiring diagrams? so u rekon i could use the 25de loom and use a boost controller for the turbo, along with the programmable FC to suit an rb20det? harrr what a mouth ful!again, many thanks for the help...

    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'
    • D2 and Ksport are essentially the same thing and basically just generic Taiwanese manufacture. Better than ChinaBay crap, but... not top shelf. Öhlins have got to be some of the best dampers around, so likely to be a good option. It's going to get to the point though where I suggest you buy from Oz. We have at least 2x excellent options here. If I were you though, I'd be talking to KW about doing something for the R33. There's bugger all difference between that and the 32. In GTR land, anyway.
    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
    • Fair enough, I am in no way a tire expert so I'm not familiar with all the terms and conditions. I'll definitely note down the AD09 to potentially try in the future. Rain is not too big of a concern for now as I will probably only drive in the rain when I have to. And considering I still lack experience driving the GTR I'd more than likely take it easy too. I have coilovers in the car but as I barely got to drive so far I never bothered to even check if they are adjustable haha. The suspension is almost entirely old and worn as well so I suppose when I eventually fix that in the future that would make a huge difference.
