If its true its a classic and quite frankly good on the owner. Fact is some people do bizarre stuff with their money.

The owner must be laffing all the way to end of the road while beating hi performance cars in his excel.

All im going to say is its an excel, nobody knows for sure whats in it and the fact that so many people cant stop going on about it shows that some people out there are concerned about this "sleeper" hitting the runs.

PS: no im not a fan of excels but give this owner of this car some credit for his achievements :uh-huh:

I agree with By By. I think that it is a personal choice on what car to mod. Modding an excel to low 14's would be more of a challenge than modding a Skyline to a similar time.

I personally wouldn't mod an excel as it's what my Mum drives :D

But each to his own.

The best way to look at it is dollars spent to get to the time you run. If your car cost $20 and you spent $5K but someone elses car cost $14K and they spent $15K then you are in front in my books....

That's just an expample and not an actual figure :P

Yep!

I've personally seen an excel (the older X2-shaped one) run 14.1 at the motorplex in perth.

I know the guy that built it. I've seen it pull 2nd gear-start burnouts about 20m long.

It was running a 1.6L Turbo engine conversion from an Import Lancer.

Details can be found (including dyno sheets) at

http://www.swanautomotive.com/justkorean/p.../projects.shtml

I think it had 153FWHP by memory....

It was a true sleeper, even had an original exhaust tip welded to the back (didn't work tho) to make it look stock.....

So there... 14.1 from an excel is pretty dam good!

I remember a long long long long time ago in a old Hot4's or FF&R's someone actually converting an excel to 4wd and adding the an Evo engine.......with an excels weight (which i assum would be light) and those mods it would be quite a weapon.

Anyhow, not saying its the one, but doesn't the evo engine practially bolt up to the excell....again, a weapon.

Well Tony's Accent ran a 10.4 at Willowbank at Jam's

I could not believe it......

I pay respect to all hy-one-days... AS if.

Also a joker in a silver Excel passed me on the way there at over 180kph..... That car was packed and probably sitting on bump stops... Crazy Excel drivers.... Just crazy...

NOTE: Tony's Accent i believe is not right, as all the running gear is from a mitz it should not be the fastest Accent in Australia...

IE. A gemini with a 13B running 8 seconds does not qualify as a fast gemini when it comes to records, as it would not be in a street catergory....

i own an excel with 2 1/4 inch zorst, Hve 4-1 extractors, Hve Tb, K&n filter and fueltronics chip. Its fast enuff to beat most STOCK commodores and falcons, all models up to EL for ford and Vt for commies, and most other similar 4's

BUT I would neva say its fast. I have to thrash the shit outta it to get it movin and consequently have done 2 boxes and a clutch cos of it.

Back to the topic of sleeper excels, the only reason i would go crazy moddin one is cos of power to weight, as i beleive excels weigh in at around 800-900 kg, so there pretty light.

    • The incentives are mostly the same, yes. Ethanol is cheap compared to the cost of doing 98-100 RON with crude oil alone. 87 to 93-94 AKI all with E10. In 2020 Canada mandated E10 as a part of their "renewable fuel standard" and is supposedly going to go to E15 in 2030. In California where there are only 8 refineries with two threatening to shut down next year it's been over 20 years now of E10 and 91 AKI maximum because there's just not enough refinery capacity or crude oil supply relative to the demand for premium unleaded fuel. And CARB's low carbon fuel standard means functionally none of the diesel available at the pump is made from crude oil anymore. It's almost all entirely 20% biodiesel blended with 80% renewable diesel (hydrotreated vegetable oil) now. The number of gasoline vehicles that support E15 or higher ethanol concentrations is surprisingly low, I can't imagine it being wise to play tricks like this without flex fuel sensors in most of the fleet.

    • South Australia, which is hardly as far behind as the rest pf Oz makes out, and who is also not a paragon of progressiveness (read that as over-legislation) in the area of vehicle standards, has this to say on the subject: Adjustable coil-over suspension Aftermarket adjustable coil-over suspension components are suspension units that incorporate an external thread on the main body and corresponding threaded spring saddle that allows the vehicle's suspension height to be varied. If fitting aftermarket or coil-over suspension components you must submit an Application to modify a light motor vehicle form and a report from a light vehicle engineering signatory (LVES).
    • Hi all, Long time since I've posted here. Looking for some advice on what I can remove to further identify the cause of my issues.  I can move the passenger seat forward and back but the knob used to adjust the seat angle is pretty much free spinning, there's very little resistance.  Removing the side cover I can see that the chain is intact but the shaft for the adjustment spins without the gear attached to it moving.  What's my next step for disassembly here? Is this a common fault? Just being a little cautious as I didn't want to start removing bolts for a spring to fly out or something equally as stupid.  Cheers
    • Those above shitboxes, mediocre and above usually have a turbo strapped to them, hence the slightly higher octane is required.
