Bit short notice, but maybe a small add in the Canberra Times 'cars for sale' if there is a next time, not everyone is an SAU/internet member/user.

Canberra Times. For Sale:

'Dear Police, RTA Inspectors, hoons, and other trouble makers, a bunch of skyline fellas will be at point A, B, and C at such n such times. If you wish to defect, tow away, and ruin their day, please feel free to come along. They will also have membership forms for all, and if you wish to donate to their defect removal bucket, please do so.' :Paranoid:

N yes, I am aware that cops etc read these types of forums too :elaugh:

Yes, correct, see you there!

Count me in for the photo shoot, looking forward to it, it will be my first skyline meet, hope the weather holds out, see ya all there!

Hoping the weather holds up also, early reports were for rain on Sunday, i hope they lied, or it passes.

As for the Police deal, they're usually pretty good down this way. And i like the membership idea, should any of you wish to, i'll have a bunch of forms there.

hey i am all for it  my car is a stocker so i am good :upurs: hehe

Hey guys, good news, ive been holding back from telling everyone this as i wanted to make sure it was going to be possible.

At work on friday night i was a having a chat to a guy Paul ive gotten to know as we both owns skylines (he has a drift built sleeper r32) he was asking me about the car and i mentioned we had a photo shoot coming up soon, he was thrilled as soon as he found out as a friend of his is currently producing a documentary on imports through australia called "Full Throttle".

its about the import scene and showing the money people are putting into their cars and the various show/power aspects we are improving.

Its basically aimed at showing the good side of imports and their owners as responsible people, and aiming away from the Hoon aspect.

the documentary will air, hopefully on either ABC or SBS in the future.

they want to come to the meet and film the cars, maybe do some interveiws and take some detailed photos of the cars.

i was a bit sceptical about it at first but after a few conversations im seeing, he's a good guy and they are very keen to help bring out the good side of imports and their owners.

i can only see this being good for imports and especially the club!!!!

its not 100% set on stone yet, but if all goes to plan they should be there to film.

so fingers crossed all goes well and maybe we'll have our cars on T.V.(plates blurred of course, lol.

also good to se your coming along skylinegal!!! ive been wanting to see this car for a while now.

Andrew.

Andrew....

Sweet! To quote some the sphincter of the universe from some dud reality TV:"Now THAT'S what I'm talkin' ABOUT!"Keep us all in the loop with this one,A.-it'd be a great thing if it all goes down OK!

And gtir_94 and anyone else thinking the same bad thoughts:I hear where you're coming from-I was paranoid about getting defected(until I changed a few things...),but while I was rolling around with an immensley defectable car at one point,I really did find that it's how you drive your car,how it's presented AND how to check any attitude at the door IF(in my case WHEN) you got pulled up...Sunday is going to be a bunch of cool people(or whatever you want to call it)getting together to "quietly" enjoy their car club.I agree with Aurora:we'll be OK!

Oh;the reason my car has become "more legal"?'Cuase there's plans for it that'll mean I need as much stuff to be legal to drag away any attention from how much work has been done...I'm trying for big performance but street legal all in one package-it can be done,oh yes! Then if the Rozzers/Funstoppers/boys-n-gals-in-blue decide that they want to go to town,I've got nothing to sweat about! :D

There ya go gtir_94, the film crew can now film your car being towed hahahaha

Anyway, its better to have the cops there and admiring our cars for what they are, and seeing that we are/can be responsible, not everyone that owns imports are law breaking, dribbling, car hoons. And it'd take 'em all of 10 minutes to round up a posse and hound us anyway, so lets all be tall and care not.

I like the idea of being on TV, always thought I was mad max material...........mmmm mad max 4 with skylines instead of clapped out fords and vw's. Seriously though, any good coverage is positive for us.

yeah im really hoping it will happen, its only going to be a budget doco, but hey if we get on T.V SWEET!!! and as trident said, any good coverage is positive for us!!!

as i said its not set in stone as yet, so dont get to upsett if it doesnt happen, but fingers and toes crossed it does, and we get good weather!!!!

Hi everyone, Not wanting to put a damper on the shoot this weekend, but had a warning today that I thought I had better pass on. A guy that works with my husband warned him that there are some organised gangs around canberra that target imports. He knows a guy(yeah I know..sounds dodgy) who actually uses forum sites to get details of our cars in terms of specs, gets along to meets, gets a look under the bonnet, susses out what mods have been done etc and then will follow you home and then flog them. i am not suggesting that anyone on here is like that at all, please dont get me wrong, He reckons it has happened to some wrx's in canberra. I asked chris at EVO and he has heard of a group that will suss out what mods your cars have, but doesnt know of anyone whose car had been stolen. I just thought it was the right thing to do to let you all know, cos we all love our liners. There are some low lifes out there, take care.

lol yeah, its the skylinesaustralia/andrew forums, there are just a few people that arent named andrew we let join.

but were all suss!!! so its all good haha.

im taking down my specs of my car in the members rides section. if it is remotly true i dont want to take the risk of having my car stolen, lucky i have GPS though.

Back to the photo shoot:here's a heads-up for anyone wanting to take photos this weekend that aren't as knowledgable as gtir_94(not a p##s-take-his photos came out pretty good,I reckon):go and get the current issue of SPEED magazine. In the middle there's a section all about do's and don'ts of photo taking when it comes to cars...penned by some of the good mag' phtographers themselves.Might help us out a bit,I guess.

And as for lowlife thieving scumbags, maybe as a friendly gesture, when we're standing next to someone we don't know by face looking at various cars, introduce yourself!I pretty sure we all have a grasp on SAU nicknames/names/"handles".Not only will we be able to say "G'day" personally to people we only know in cyber-Skyline-space,but it might just spook off these idiots if we meet 'em face to face..."I'm LTS Jayce;and you are...?"

    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
    • My experience with Rising Sun Exports Before agreeing to the sale I tried to do as much research as I could (obviously), his Facebook reviews are 98% and he goes Live at least once or twice a week. I contacted 2 people in the UK who had used him for their imports, both had positive feedback. His explanation and talk through of the import process was thorough, answering any query no matter how stupid it was. It felt as soon as the money was sent, communication dropped off. I asked for shipping updates every 2 weeks or so, not wanting to pester him, he never had any updates. I wasn't informed the car had been dropped off at the port, I only found out by his Facebook story. I asked for the photos taken at the port, knowing he would need some for insurance purposes. I received a few 5 second clips and that's it. When asked again, he said his staff had them. Weeks later I asked again, he tells me he doesn't have any, but does have 50 photos from the original advert. I never received them. I eventually got the documents sent via WhatsApp after I mentioned the port was requesting them. I purchased a CarVX report, to find out the vehicle is a Grade R with recorded accident damage, first recorded in 2017 when it was first auctioned. He never told me the grade, then again I didn't ask. His response was "Grade R means nothing, it wasn't chassis damage". Still, I would have liked to have been informed about it. Jon prides himself on being open and honest when it comes to inspecting cars, it's his main job doing so at the auctions for customers. When the vehicle arrived in the UK I noticed a few little cosmetic issues. It's a 21 year old car so it wasn't going to be mint condition. The side skirts are cracked on each corner and the sealant is failing. The front grill on the bonnet/hood isn't secured very well, mounting studs are missing. Both minor things, but again, it would have been nice to be told. During a Facebook Live walk around video of the vehicle, he mentioned it has a front Whiteline anti roll bar/sway bar. While on the inspection ramp, I noticed the stock item has been installed. When first questioned, his response was "the ARB? Switched? Since when, it never had them". Since sending video and photo evidence I've not received a response. I'm probably being over critical of the overall condition of an old car, but all I wanted was honesty (which he claims to have). I'm aware I wasn't his only customer, he's busy doing XYZ but other reviews praise him for great communication with regular updates and photos, I felt I didn't receive the same treatment.
    • I was able to get some underside photos while the car was on the ramp The suspension is all Altezza/IS200/IS300 so getting part's will hopefully be less of a headache
