Quite seriously - I have called up and given the same details to an insurance co and gotten very different prices.

I don't understand how they get variation given they type it into a freakin' computer form!

P.S. I know it's been asked, but does anyone in NSW have cheap insurance for an under 25 for an R33 GTS-T?

sorry tgriffin can't help ya...

that's my u don't go under parents name or something, ur not getting a rating as u drive.....damn cheap tho...

just cars was the same for me, 1 month, 4500, then next month 6700, now it's 4712, so i have no fcking clue either....

yep, xcuzme, i was quoted $108,000 for an R33......

When I got insurance it did vary by $100.

RAA had family benifit going which required my parents car to be transfered to RAA and for them to say that i've been driving their car since i've had my license. And it also required that you have never had to claim due to it being your fault.

Anway i dropped 1 rating for every year that I had driven. At the time I was 20 So it ended up getting me a rating 2.

Next year I got my rating one but I lost it as my G/F rolled my car down the drive way while it was idling..(VS 5l Commonwhore) :)

With a rating 2 when I bought the skyline I was quoted around the $1500 mark.

I rang a while back (renewal Rating 1) and was quoted $1200 so I hope its still 1200 as the renewal is coming up soon I think.,.. I'd better check.. :(

Also I am now 22.. And with Just Cars.

the reason you got differnt quotes may be the fact htat you FORGOT to mention sum stuff, like black wired alarm system etc, which decreas the price of insurance.

Also sometimes the operator rounds your age UP and other times they round it down so sometimes your age varies lol don't ask, this is what a mate of mine who works at Just cars told me.

Maybe if you told me his name I could get him to do some rounding up :)

No everything was the same. The car was totally stock with a Clifford Alarm. Well it was stock... :D

And they still varied.

My oldies recently bought a Haynes Signature 550C and with SGIC which they have a total package 2 houses, landcruiser etc etc. the price also varied between two people.

In fact the price was dearer when the supervisor quoted.

There are many reasons.

most companies work on a poinst system - you ask the questions - add up the points and there is the premium..

other reasons may include,

1. The operators may be making mistakes - if the car you want to insure is an import, then it won't be listed in the Dealers Guide, or on their system etc, so they have to look it up manually, If they are not "into" cars - they may not pick the exact correct car (ie, 180SX with 1.8L might be different points to a 180SX with 2.0L, then there are turbo vs Normally asprirated etc

2. The value that they put on the car - eg - there are sum insured brackets - if your car is insured for $14990, it may be a lot cheaper than $15000 because that is there the next bracket starts.

for example - their sum insured brackets might look like this

$0,000 to $4,999 = 10 pts

$5,000 to $9,999 = 15 pts

$10,000 to $12,999 = 17 pts

$13,000 to $14,999 = 20 pts

$15,000 to $17,990 = 24 pts

if they asked how much you paid and you said $14,500 then that gets 20 pts, but the book value (market value) might be $15,000 and they use that which gives you 4 points extra.

3. They might have forgotten to include the GST or Fire Service Levy etc

With (on average) most companies using about 12 to 15 different rating factors, there is lots of room for error if the exact same information is not entered/looked up.

Hope this helps you understand a bit more

trust me - it's not easy training "non car enthusists" to understand the many types of cars there are, as well as modifications and what they mean etc. Sometimes errors happen - they are only human after all

    • Hey everyone, I recently bought myself a 2001 Nissan Stegea M35, and I've had a few issues that I had to fix, my car would start intermittently and I had a bad rocker cover leak, after a couple days of looking I finally found a part number that interchanges with the OEM starter as the OEM starters at $1300 and I can't afford that, this starter was only $270 and I replaced the start and still had the same issues, I posted a video asking for help online and it went very well, some guy said it was probably a bad ignition switch so I took my dash apart and turns out my ignition switch was half screwed in and was loose, once it was tightened it fired right up, I found a local place called "Boost factory" and they sold me a part of OEM Nissan rocker covers, they were $600 which was a shocker but I couldn't find them anywhere else, so I installed them and fixed my oil leak as the old rocker cover was cracked and warped, I now need to replace my boost air inlet hoses as they have some cracks.
    • I am being real ocd and do not want to make amy mistakes so appreciate all help provided. I am overly cautious so asking for opinion even if i know the answer   few questions,   1.re tensioner, should spring be greased lightly?    2.tensioner has two washers , one pressure washer and other has recessed/ seat. I am going to put the recessed one facing tensioner where edges are cut out and pressure washer on top   3. my car has custom triger kit sold few years ago by guy who initially built the engine. I moved the crank gear and it moved in and out easy, only way to remove belt is to slide the crankshaft gear forward which I did. I have seen these being very tough to move , anything to do with my woodruff key?   it has a crank sensor shown in purple which I assume reads from the 12 teeth position mounted to the crankcase gear   4. timing belt doesn’t have arrow stating front or back just a arrow which I think is direction of rotation . Do you agree?   5.i figured out why my crankcase cover was worn as there was no washer installed over the crankcase cover before the harmonic balancer was put in place. It is missing, anyone knows the part number? It looks like this https://justjap.com/products/genuine-nissan-crankshaft-timing-gear-rear-plate-washer-nissan-s13-ca18-a31-r32-rb20-r33-r34-c33-c34-c35-rb25?currency=USD   https://tinypic.host/image/IMG-4535.382Zy2 https://tinypic.host/image/IMG-4537.382dSz https://tinypic.host/image/IMG-4534.382q4U
    • CTIS (Central Tire Inflation System) has existed since the 80's. I'm looking into buying a Hummer H1 and they generally included it.
    • My idle is set at 950rpm though - Moving the timing around 20 degrees is not really what I'd call a calm idle. That said... neither is chop, by definition. The LS ECU likes to adjust timing to hold idle as opposed to air. It'd work, but generally speaking there'd be a discrepancy in the base idle and the IACV would want to move the timing around anyway to maintain said idle. I think I'm just going to keep the timing steady anyway. Preserve my engine mounts.  My aircon is now officially regassed. As the guy was reversing I noticed my reverse lights do not operate, along with my reverse cam. This is a bit distressing, because 100% of guides talk about which wire to connect to backup cams as "the goes with the [other color] wire". Often when doing conversions. Unfortunately the R34 colour wires aren't documented Unfortunately I had a T56 Magnum gearbox with it's reverse switch, which also isn't documented. Unfortunately there's definitely not documentation for people with both of these in the one car. Unfortunately I forgot. After many hours of this, I have a reverse cam and reverse lights again. The wire going through the trans tunnel to the reverse switch had broken. Upon inspection, it looks like this one wire had about 7 spade terminals and extensions in it.. for reasons I cannot possibly comprehend. I also spent the 750 hours required to clean up the wiring behind my head unit which now looks like this: This is a monumental improvement relative to what used to be there WRT triple gauges, head unit, traction control, wideband controller, and whatever the f**k OEM stuff still exists there in various states of connectivity/needed. Next step is to check in at the Exhaust shop to see/confirm how much clearance I have, to decide what mid mufflers or 'resonators' (which are just straight through, narrower mufflers) I can add and hopefully cut out a lot of exhaust leaks, pinhole, v-band or otherwise. But first step will be to 'take a look' before the next step.
