Well as those that know me may already know, this minute im meant to be OS on holidays, but a brief stint working in melbourne has turned into a full time position.

Anyhows, talking to friends that are all OS at the moment, we just hatched a plan for my holiday next year. Instead of doing the usual, bus/fly get pi55ed (which is great by the way) im going to ship my car to the UK and drive all over Europe :):):)

Now im going to need plenty of digi footage of my car tearing up tracks all over Europe, imagine driving on the very same tracks i have been watching F1 cars race on for years.;)

Im so pumped, i already have the stickers for my car figured, SAU_Roy with an Aussie flag in my rear quarter window :P (my GTR UK nik)

Obviously it wotn be a track day every week, but im confident ill be able to get 4 or 5 track days in over the 9-12 months ill be travelling/working.

Anyway...thats the plan, and its pencilled in for April 2005...

I figured ill start a journal, and share all of the preparations and experiences with ppl. Who knows if anyone else is planning a holiday next year...well it can be a team assault, even if you just hire an Echo when you are over there :aroused:

Awesome, ill be in the South of France around that time for the "Australians Behaving Badly Tour" repeat in the Pyrenees ie getting drunk watching the Tour De France.

So Monacco is only be about a 2-3hr drive How much is this BMW thing? Im keen to have a go at Magny Cours!

Troy mate.

I'm going to Europe for the Monaco GP next year. I am then going to do a BMW track day at Hockenhiem. I'm thinking we'll have to link up mate!

:D

Is that the one where you get to drive a ex formula 1 car around also as well as a bunch of other different race cars???

I think thats called the Michelin experience or something similar. Any track time is good, especially if its in a car that you dont own, and their is the understanding that once the keys have been handed over the car is going to cop both barrels :D

I tried to look into doing the Michelin experience - its by invitation only. So it can't be done.

Not sure about the BMW thing - I will find out. Its all part of my 30th B'Day pressy from my oldies / bribe to make me have kids next year. Plan on visiting the Nur ring as well. Want to hire a porka and go there! lol.

My mates just hired a Saxo diesel and did lots of laps of the Nürburgring. Of all things to break they broke the temperature gauge!

I was hoping to do a similar thing in Japan, but looking less and less like happening for me :D

NOICE!!

I'm planning on going to Japan next year to do Suzuka and Tsukuba since R31 House and East Bear Sports invited me over :D

go team SAU international :D

KEWL.

Depending how long shipping takes im thinking about stopping off in Japan for a week or two, but i figure i couldnt be stuffed doing Japan by mylelf...language and all. Any idea roughly of when you will be going? If its around March-April id be kinda interested in carrying your luggage/helmet/race suit, sir! :P

For no other reason im keen to rock up to a track with me Ozzie flag sticker on the car...moderators will have to give me some more www.skylinesaustralia.com stickers to plaster tastefully on my car:)

hahah have fun Troy!

When you hit the nurburgring, remind you camera person TO HOLD THE FCUKING CAMERA STRAIGHT. :P

Sadly discussions with my mate indicate that the best im going to do is UK, France and Spain. If i pick up work then ill venture further East. The big prob is HQ will be London and/or Oxford

they have HQ's over there?:P

The 959... Germany's GT-R :)

I remember playing Test Drive II on my Amiga for hours.... ahhh the memories!

Imagine the sound of that Murcialago pulling out of the pits...

I guess this answers my question as to whether you can take Eau Rouge "flat" in a BNR34. Not that I thought you would have been able to anyway.

LOL...You too? :) I refused to use the F40 bloody red Italian things, i suppose i shouldnt speak to soon, i think at the upcoming Maserati day ill get :Owned:

Well first things first, boss says i may be needed up until June, but thats cool, the extra funds will help, and ill still have time to catch the Tour de France and Monaco and French and British GPs.

With respect to getting my car over to the UK, getting it registered sounds like it will be easy

"You will need only to customs clear and MOT/insure your car in order to register it. MOT will cost approx £25.00, insurance????, registration £25.00, road fund licence £ 165 for a year."

So on top of that i have do cancel my rego and ship it to the UK. :D

Thing to consider is apparantly its a buyers market in the UK, and there are plenty of tasty GTRs plus local offerings for around the 10,000pund mark, inclusinf RX7s. Will have to give this one some serious thought

    • It would be different if the sealant hadn't started to peel up with gaps in the glue about ~6cm and bigger in some areas. I would much prefer not having to do the work take them off the car . However, the filler the owner put in the roof rack mount cavities has shrunk and begun to crack on the rail delete panels. I cant trust that to hold off moisture ingress especially where I live. Not only that but I have faded paint on as well as on either side of these panels, so they would need to come off to give the roofline a proper respray. My goal is to get in there and put a healthy amount of epoxy instead of panel filler/bog and potentially skin with carbon fiber. I have 2 spare rolls from an old motorcycle fairing project from a few years back and I think it'd be a nice touch on a black stag.  I've seen some threads where people replace their roof rack delete with a welded in sheet metal part. But has anyone re-worked the roof rails themselves? It seems like there is a lot of volume there to add in some threads and maybe a keyway for a quick(er) release roof rack system. Not afraid to mill something out if I have to. It would be cool to have a cross bar only setup. That way I can keep the sleek roofline that would accept a couple bolts to gain back that extra utility  3D print some snazzy covers to hide the threaded section to be thorough and keep things covered when not using the rack.
    • Probably not. A workshop grade scantool is my go to for proper Consult interrogation. Any workshop grade tool should do it. Just go to a workshop.
    • In my head it does make sense to be a fuel problem since that is what I touched when cleaning the system. When I was testing with the fuel pressure gauge, the pressure was constantly 2.5 bar with the FPR vacuum removed. When stalling, the pressure was going up to 3.0 bar (which is how it should be on ignition).
    • ECUtalk pages don't mention they support the ABS computer (consult port has more than one CAN), so you might just need a different scan tool. But, I would expect ABS is a different light to the brake warning/handbrake light, do you see an ABS light come on for a few seconds when you turn the key from ACC to IGN? But since you said: I'd have a look at the ABS sensors in the rear hubs to make sure they are not damaged, disconnected etc.
    • OK, if it idles at 1000+ with the AAC, its not an idle airflow problem. The cold start valve just gives extra air when the engine is cold, but you have enough air without it to idle at 1000. I think you are back to a fuel problem, sorry. Can you see the fuel pressure staying constant or does it drop as the revs drop to a stall?
