Can any Famous Classic Car Insurance customers that pay their premium BY THE MONTH tell me if they pay a percentage extra each month for this service.

I am ONLY interested to know about pay by the month services and installment payments - not one-off premium payments.

For example: Do any of you that are insured with Famous pay an extra 5, 10 15% etc for the service of paying by the month???

Thanks in advance guys'n'gals!

Adrian

I paid monthly last year and it went like this:

- 10% surcharge on premium

- its broken into 10 installments

- pay the first 2 up front then a 1/10th every month untill its paid.

As Amaru said you are finished paying with 3 months to go. To save the 10% this year I paid up front because my tax refund convieniently almost matched my premium.

Ben

When I rang up for a quote last week they said pay per month would cost an extra 10% and you also prepay 3 months initially (and naturally dont pay for your last 3 months).
I rang up 1mth ago to get a new quote before they sent out my renewal form.

The lady told me:

* 10% extra if paying monthly.

* No "3mth upfront", that is gone and is history.

* 12 equal monthly payments.

She told me "So basically you are up for ~$250/mth with your first payment being ~$250 due on [blah]". She also told me that the "3mths upfront" was because they'd loan the money from another company to pay their parent company upfront and our payments pay back their loan before the full 12mths is up, this is no longer required.

Not a chance in hell I will be paying 3mths upfront with Famous, the service they have shown me (and another forum member whom I work with, he request famous fax out his quote.. 5 days later and after 5 phone calls they faxed out a quote from more than 12mths ago with the wrong details) over the last week is worse than a corner fish n chip shop. Famous is certainly nothing but a backyard operation, im convinced.

Famous quoted me $2,300 (or $2,530 if I pay monthly).

JustCars quoted me $1,900.

If i'm not financial at the time (sh1t... next week actually) i'll simply chuck it all on a credit card and worry about it later as I simply have lost my faith in Famous just with getting quotes and getting info sent out let alone having to actually make a claim.

Shannons won't touch me as a daily driver in Sydney unfortunately. I've contacted them a couple of times & their reply is always 'we don't really cover cars like yours for daily driving in Sydney'

I believe that its a fairly recent policy of theirs as others have got insurance with them.

Any of you guys considered Shannons?

I am with them, no extra to pay by the month

Chris

Last time i spoke with shannons bout pay by the month they said they don't do it???? Might have to give them a tingle and see what the g-o is these days!!

well said all insurance companies r crap, im with Young and Cool

im 23years old with a R33 GTST paying $3000 4 insurance and thats with 60% no claim bonus if i get mags they want $400 extra and the mags wont be covered because i havea $1000 system.

I have tryed every insurance company under the sun and its the best i could find.

I have had insurance since my Ps and i have been building up no claim when i went to other insurance companies they didnt reconise my no claim bonus because i was not the policy holder it was my dad, but its pointless having 3 policy 4 da same car.

Young drivers just have to pay heaps of $$$ 4 insurance its just a fact.

Apart from Just Cars, Shannons and famous...what other insurance companies are there out there that will cover a 19.5yr old with 1 driving suspension as a history?

Famous cancelled my insurance after they found out i had my license suspended and didnt want to hear from me for another 3 years...

so much for giving people 2nd chances...

gay

My suspension is nearly up and have learnt my lesson so its time to find another insurance company that will cover me!...so anyone got some good recommendationz?

dude i don't like your chances. I've been hunting for insurance for my 95 gtst for a while now with no bad driving record and having never made a claim or been involved in accident (never been insured before though). No quote i have recieved no matter how i've tried to wrangle it, has been worth the cost of doing it.

I hope u find something though, if you do please pm me and tell me who the f*ck it was thru so i can go to them.

If you ask me something seems pretty shifty about famous though, too much smallprint (not that any insurance companies don't have that)

Don't worry about me, i'm just a born again insurance hater. Stickin with ma satrak and 3rd party property

    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
