well to put it into perspective apache's htaccess password system was made in 1988, and to date the only way to crack it is with brute force.

hehe doughboy was waitin for someone to post up kashima's website. had an interesting convo with calvintys about it last night. chatted to kashima on icq recently and he told me where to get the NEC programmer in japan. unfortunately that place was out of stock. Found a place in england that stocks it so I've ordered it. should be able to start makin the patched PFC's soon.

However I have nix knowledge about tuning, but I do have the capability to reverse engineer the software interface (to make an english interface). I spoke to troy (your old classmate) on how to get on yer good side to get your help on things, he said ask you nicely :D

have a look around on the website, if you go to the electronics section you'll find a schematic for a wideband o2 sensor.

If you guys don't mind waiting a while I'll put up a translation of the website once I'm done doing it.

Hey Shan, like I've said before I really don't care what other people do, and have no right to inflict my opinions on anyone.

I strongly dislike lies or misleading information, something that your mate Calvin was doing. As I explained repeatedly to him, that's why I had a dig at him. After all, how's a "poor student" meant to get money to modify his BCNR-33 these days?

I'm running Autronic on the new car, so really have no vested interest in the PowerFC. Yeah I paid a fair amount of money for the software, but the friends I know running one will benefit (eventually) from me getting it and handing it out.

It would be great to see a locally made product that could interface with the PowerFC via laptop, even better if it was extremely affordable and widely available. Hopefully this thread has given that development a big prod in the ass.

p.s. I am a linux user/supporter, that might explain my mentality a bit :D

hold up will get you the schematic for the main box. its a CAD PDF, 1st page is component layout

2nd and 3rd pages are PCB Silk screen schematics.

http://kaele.com/~kashima/car/pfcadp/PFCAdapter10.pdf

I've got a PCB fabrication tank n stuff so if you guys need one made let me know.

Just keep in mind the NEC chip HAS to be flashed to let the PFC work with the adapter, so don't expect to open up a tuning garage using it :D well you could if you could convince your customers to use a chipped PFC.

Doughy, I dunno if the item will be as affordable as we'd like it to be. Raw materials alone cost me around the $200 mark. But I guess if one of us gets the programming hardware then we could always help out the rest. BTW i only made contact with calvin yesterday, his mates one of the guys that sells the CD on yahoo japan

oh whoops... misinterpreted... thought you meant the PFC interface box schematics.

Oh well, if you don't wanna go thru the jap website to find it, there it is.

i concur

Hi guys, very interesting and I have a few questions (how unusual :wassup: );

1. The PFC Excel software needs a dongle (or equivalent) to talk to the PFC, is that correct?

2. There is a "gate keeper" chip in the PFC that needs to see a dongle before it passes data. So you replace that chip and "open the gate" is that right?

3. All versions of the PFC Excel software are available, but not the dongle. I have seen a number of dongle copiers in Singapore, KL etc. Has anyone tried to copy a PFC dongle?

4. Is there only one dongle type, or does every type of PFC have a different dongle?

5. The Datalogit software accesses the PFC and can change everything the PFC software does, but it gets there via a different route ie; not via the "gate keeper" chip. Is that right?

6. You can't use the PFC Excel Software and get it in via the same route (bypass the gate keeper chip) as the Datalogit uses, is that correct?

7. The cost of materials and labour might add up to almost what a Datalogit costs, maybe?

Nothing good is ever simple, but always worth the effort. :)

R33vit so in that case the datalogit uses the same dongle as the kashima dongle (lets give the guy some credit for his work).

Kashima also happens to own an RX7, very similar to the story being spun on the datalogit website...

Anyways, yes the "gate keeper" has to be modded to access all the functions using the kashima dongle (well I think, I haven't had much luck without it). I've got what I believe to be a working model of the kashima dongle. I'm waiting on the NEC reprogrammer which I just ordered from a guy in england to do some gate busting :D

there's 2 dongle types, a simple one, and an advanced one which allows yout to get inputs from other sensors (like wideband O2 etc).

I don't have access to a datalogit or its software, but I'd be happy to give a copy of the proper software to someone with a datalogit cable so they can test to see if it works. (Or if someone wants to give me the datalogit software to test on my cable.)

I've already posted up how much its cost me to make the cable. I've also got a NEC reprogrammer on the way, so I can "unlock gates" for you guys if you want... although I wouldn't want to be the one modifying PFC's just in case they f**k up and I'm liable :)

But keep in mind that the costs I've incurred are for one off prototyping, on a mass production line it'll be a lot cheaper for the PCB's and electronics.

btw i've got nuffin to do with calvin, although he seemed keen to bring some large parts down from japan in one of our containers. Might be a small time importer.

troy n doughboy, why don't you guys like him?

Now I'm no genius but I know one when i meet one!

We will call him "Mr. X" for the time being...

Mr. X has an FD (gen 3 FD3S RX7) with a Power FC. His hobbies are drag racing and number crunching.

"Mr. X" decided he needed data logging if he was going to get his "stock" FD to do any better than his best 12.2 1/4 mile time.

So Mr. X built the "FC-Box" interface, wrote a lot of software software, "FC-Edit" and, with a combination of logging runs and fine tuning his FD and optimizing his driving style he got his best 1/4 down to an 11.6.

I vote that Mr X = Mr Kashima

Is it because he was selling the cable and software on here for $700 - $950.....

Anyways, yes the "gate keeper" has to be modded to access all the functions using the kashima dongle

The "gate keeper"chip wasn't modded on any of our PFC's (2 X GTR and 1 X GTST), so we could use the Datalogit. So if the Kashima dongle is the same as the Datalogit dongle then you don't need to modify the "gate keeper"chip. It should just plug in and work like a Datalogit

I've got what I believe to be a working model of the kashima dongleI'm waiting on the NEC reprogrammer which I just ordered from a guy in england to do some gate busting .

I assume you have tried to use the Kashima dongle and the Power Excel software and it doesn't work

The advanced one sounds like the Datalogit dongle.

PM me

Me either, that's why it would be best if that wasn't required at all. RB20 PFC's are too rare to blow one up with my amatuer soldering skills.

Very interesting thread :D

I bet $100 there is a way to do it without opening up your PowerFc's ECU housing.

Its called software hacking... I am no pro, but I understand how it works, and there would most certainly be a way

    • There is a way, but it's not with the same cars. You need to find the same vintage of car, that we had. Realistically, that was an affordable car with aftermarket parts around. So what people need to find is a car that had a decent base in its day, and can be modified. They're looking for a car year make of 2010 to 2015 really... Aus could have done it if Holden didn't fold as V8 commodores were cheap, and if Ford didn't get expensive thanks to COVID, then you could cheaply play with FG Barras. Realistically, those are just a bit heavier, four door skylines. I'm sure the US and UK have similar cars they could find.
    • Haha I do that.. thats when it chirps..The bit point for me is almost non-existent. Otherwise I stall it. But yes, in terms of performance, the clutch is solid af.
    • Greg speaks wisdom. These dirty old Datsuns are only value when they are cheap. When they are not cheap, there is no value. Sounds contradictory, but it's true. We are now 20 years past the hey day of modifying cheap 90s JDM cars for small amounts of money. This is a different world. If you are rich and can afford not to care about what is effectively wasting money on an old Datto shitter, then I have no reason to argue against it. But if you are wanting to experience what we all experienced back in 2005 (and I bought my car last century!) then there is no way to do it.
    • Short answer: No. Medium answer: No, because you still need to conjure the things out of thin air to bolt them to a NA to make it a NA+T. Long Answer: No - The things you need to conjure - meaning a turbo, intercooling, manifolds, exhaust, intake/manifold/piping, clutch, injectors, fuel pump, AFM (?), ECU + Wiring (woo, N/A loom fun) have to come from somewhere. You could have many scavenged these things from an OEM car that someone had upgraded from and use some of these. This will be cost prohibitive now, especially so in the USA. You'd probably pay the same for newer, upgraded components that are better than old OEM stuff from 25-30 years ago. None of these big ticket items are re-usable for the N/A car. Why not buy new and upgrade while you're there? The only real consideration is turbo and fuel sizing and determining whether you want to stay within the bounds of the OEM engine or get into rebuild territory. These limits ARE lower with a N/A motor and especially N/A gearbox at the starting point. And if you're gonna upgrade those then you may as well consider having them built to begin with. Because everyone here knows you're never far from that next engine rebuild once you start making the power you want... The cars you see on the internet and SAU etc have been built over decades. If you're really clued in... you would sell your US car to somebody for what you paid for it. You would then scour AU JDM pages or SAU and buy a car like Dose's on this forum with your powerful American Dollar. This will save you so much money in the long term. Importing it could be tricky. Or it might not because USA. I have long said the only reason 90's Japanese stuff took off was because a) Japanese people had Japanese cars so that is what they used b) Australians could import these cars to Australia with very minimal changes and use them on the road here c) Neither country had well-priced access to US or EU Sports Cars. I don't believe the JDM scene would have taken off in Australia at all if we had EU priced EU BMW M offerings, or more especially the AUS V8 Scene would never have existed if we had the multitude of US cars like Camaros, Mustangs, Corvettes at the prices you folks do. After all - Do the math. I would say put a V8 in your R34 and that's the smart way forward. It is. I did it. I know this from my own experience. But at that point there's no reason to simply not buy a C5 or C6? It would be simpler and easier and cheaper and bette-
    • Reading all this... hurts lol. I have an ENR34 5MT and I paid an inflated USA price for the car alone, had to do tons of preventative maintenance past that, and so I'm over $30K USD into the car already and haven't even touched power.  I wanted to +t it. Not even trying to make GTR numbers, I'd be happy with 250hp.  Can I get away with paying much less to make that happen?
