Heh, nah, I'm referring to a kid in my town who bought a GTS-4 and almost lost it into a tree, then got a WRX believing that fulltime AWD would let him do anything.

He wrote it off with no insurance. :D

Drivetrain not strong? where did you hear this, or you mean compared to the later models.

I have a feeling he's thinking about WRX's and their dodgy gearboxes and the slipping clutch 'safety' method.

I would be sutpid enough to refer the EVO to the REX, i was refering it to the mighty GTR.

West, no offence dude, but AWD isn't the all-powerful problem saving technology that people believe it is. I don't know the situation you got bitten in (hard cornering, tail snapped out?) but AWD cars can break traction just fine, if you push them hard enough

Well no offence and yes i corner HARD and tail snapped out. My 33 does 13,6 on geniune street tyre , if i have an EVO that have the same power at least i'd have got a bit more control that's all. :how:

I can't remember GTR's having horribly dodgy clutches (unless it was caused by abuse), but *shrug*..

Happens to the best of us, but AWD is not going to help you corner hard. In fact, you may find you have more problems because AWD cars are notorious for understeering. You go around a corner, you understeer, you feed more steering into the corner, then oversteer snaps in (and it *will* kick in. the closer to the edge you get, the faster you go over it)... AWD cars are not going to allow you to corner hard or fast. It's a common reason as to why WRX owners end up as small white crosses on the roadside.

If you want to corner hard and fast, spend a metric f uckload on a decent suspension setup, some GOOD, grippy tires (I've got some dunlop LM702's at the momen, $360 a corner, but pretty good, recommended) and then perhaps some high performance driving lessons, where a pro will teach you how to corner fast, safely and effectively. Then you can corner fast, have the fun of a RWD car and not have to work with an understeering awd car.

Technology will not just let you reef the steering wheel and mash the noise pedal and let you live every time. Laws of gravity, inertia and thermodynamics do occasionally have a say in the matter. :D

    • Sorry to hear your HFM BM57 was faulty,  did you contact HFM I would hope they would be at least grateful for the information if there was some sort of manufacturing fault, you would hope they would be sympathetic even if your item was 2 years old if it had never been fitted. May I ask where it leaked from ?
    • Cats are called Bella, and Donna...  Like that poisonous plant And I remember your 2 monsters, I remember making a little bit of wee when you let them out... LOL I have already installed cat doors into the laundry where their kitty litter is, and the sun room, apart from the cat doors there's not going to be any permanent mounted stuff on the interior walls (interior doors are cheap and easy to replace) I will get a outdoor cat cage thingie once I finish the landscaping out back... https://catnip.com.au/ The only off limit areas are the main bedroom and the gym room....but, currently the cats are curled up in bed, in the main bedroom with the Mrs.....LOL, the off limits for the kittens to the main bedroom lasted about 5 minutes with Jackie I currently only have 1 free standing huge cat tree multiple level scratching post thingie in the lounge room, but, I will be getting another one soon now that I'm happy with the furniture layout in the back room and have a perfect spot for it
    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
    • Not to mention they drive like a bucket of bolts! yuck!
