is there any updates on this yet? inside info anyone?

i saw a car all painted up with "formula nippon/gt series 2007 at bunbury international circuit" in east perth on friday but cannot find anything on the interweb... ?!?

very curious......

hmm.... maybe they were hoping it was gonna be on!!...

it was definately a "promo" car of some sort. i think a little excel or something didnt really take notice of the car itself and i think it was outside an advertising company.

going by the car it was a formula nippon event with the GT series as a side attraction

This is the fabled track, that will never happen..

http://www.pimm.org claims that in october "within days", a whole wack of earth moving gear went down there, speaking to a mate there, nothing has happened as yet..

as ive said all along, it will never happen, and ross roberts is a con man, nothing more..

You may be a little harsh, but only a little.

To their credit PIMM have spent large on the engineering studies etc to get the approvals & the project to where it is, ie they have some land & an approval.

Their "fleet of earth moving equipment" as far as I know consisted of a bulldozer pushing over some trees. The council (one of them, just not the Bunbury one) has given them an extra year to get the thing built. PIMM wanted two.

I guess the whoile thing hinges on PIMM getting the necessary finance/backers to get the place built. Personally, I am not holding my breath.

I don't really think im being overly hard..

Given ross roberts, from what ive been told by reliable people, isn't his real name..

This is the same spanker, who was behind the original push for a city based v8 race, and sucked in guys like mike rasheed <old owner of the deen, universal etc> into believing his dream, then shafted them once they'd poured a good slab of money into things and it went titsup.com..

Somehow, hes managed to convince the ricadello clan the track will happen, to the point they bought a formular nippon car, several years ago now, so far its only been on the track once AFAIK, at wanneroo...

I have no doubt this track will never happen..

So is it still the same spanker who is lately talking of a V8 street race in Perth - again?

I haven't really paid much attention to this round of the whole street race thing, so i can't comment, but id say no..

That said, the street race thing won't happen, not for a while anyway fro a number of reasons

1> WASCC have a contract with AVESCO, for a number of years to hold a v8 round at waneroo, i think they signed a 5 yr contract last yr?, i can't remember exactly

2> A street race would require, a LARGE amount of money to be spent modifying intersections, and resrufacing various roads to bring them up to spec to hold a race on them, no one wants to cover this, AVESCO sure as hell won't, PCC won't cover it as they're not the ones wanting the event, and unless a private company puts up a lot of cash, no on will cover the bill

3> The WASCC will argue long hard and fast about any form of street circut, because if they lose the v8's, they sink, simple as that, without the v8 event, they WILL go broke, they know this, up until the trucks returned, and then drifting, the v8's was the ONLY event, the WASCC ran that made a proffit, trucks return a small proffit, and now drifitng has been accepted, it also brings in a proffit every event, however, its nothing like the few mil the WASCC pocket from the v8's..

Put simple, AVESCO want a street race, no one else really does..

Now the main reason why AVESCO want a street race, money

We'll look at the Wanneroo event for an example

All the gate takings, go to the WASCC, any corprate box, private box etc etc hire for the V8 event, goes to the WASCC, if it goes to a street circut, the WASCC, gets nothing, AVESCO takes all, the club sinks..

AVESCO realise this, and made a token offering of some 350k to the WASCC for supply of officials and so forth, which is a pittance on what the WASCC would normally make from a v8 event...

Perth really doesn't have the streets to run an event on anyway, we don't have any nice curbing high speed useable roads like adelaide or indy etc, ours are all bland straight lumps of road with 90 degree bends, its be a boring as hell race, wanners would still piss all over it for track layout, even when you consider that wanners blows compared to most other tracks in aus..

Yeah, fair call. I was suprised to read about it in Auto Fiction a few weeks back. I thought that it had been long dead & buried - not that anyone was grieving over its loss.

The WASCC run a good event - you can see the improvements they make year on year - even if the view is of ever more corporate hospitality and from further toward the left hander before the run down to Kolb. Besides this state government & motorsport don't mix.

On the flip side WASCC membership numbers have been steadilly increasing over the past few years so they are obviously doing more than just running a good V8 event.

I would say drifting has seen numbers increase ..

Hmm, I doubt that somewhat. Numbers have been on the increase over the past few years & the trend predates drifting at the circuit. Besides, from what I have seen most of the drift spectators are 15 years old so not really willing to spend the coin on a $200 membership.

Have a look at the photos for the front page of the South West Times - yesterday.

Then read the CAMS media release below.

Then make up your own mind.

CAMS unaware of plans to bring international events to Bunbury Circuit

CAMS Media Release

22 Feb 2007

CAMS has noted with interest various media reports out of Western Australia suggesting that the Bunbury International Circuit, developed and operated by Perth International Motorsport Management (PIMM), will host a number of international racing events in 2007 including rounds of Japan's Formula Nippon Championship and the Japanese Super GT Series.

CAMS, the peak governing body of motor sport in Australia as delegated by the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), would normally be involved in discussions to host such events within Australia.

"Any legitimate international competition within Australia can only be organised under the auspices of the FIA and in this case, through their sole delegated authority for motor sport in Australia, CAMS," said Bob Glindemann, Acting Chief Executive Officer of CAMS.

"In this scenario the accepted protocol for the organisation developing the track should be to contact CAMS outlining their proposed plans for the event. An application for a track licence would normally follow and CAMS would then arrange inspections to ensure that all the correct approvals have been sought and that all necessary safety standards are in place."

CAMS has also been in communication with its Japanese equivalent body, the Japan Automobile Federation (JAF) which confirm that they've been in contact with the management of both Formula Nippon and the Japanese Super GT Series to ensure that they have no intention of running their events in Western Australia outside of the FIA's international authority.

"At this stage, CAMS has received no correspondence from PIMM regarding the proposed events," concluded Glindemann.

Haha, I was watching the WIN News last night (I was in Karratha) and there hyping up all this Bunbury track business, but without CAMS approval it would be dead in the water.

Hopefully they'll contact CAMS and kiss some ass quick-smart to make this happen :P

If you are in Karratha you would well know how hard it is to get resources to do any significant projects at the moment. It is no differrent in Bunno.

Anyway if it is hype you want hype...

Planning urged to cope with motor racing events

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the south-western Western Australian city of Bunbury is warning the city could be overwhelmed by its new motor racing events unless careful planning begins immediately.

The racing group Perth International Motorsport has secured a deal to bring a series of Asian motor sport events to Bunbury.

The group has begun building a Formula One-style race track near the city's airport.

The first racing event will be held in December.

Allan Birrell from the chamber of commerce says the city's leaders need to come up with a detailed plan to cope.

"I think we can draw some lessons from other places around Australia that have had similar problems in the past," he said.

"I think there of Adelaide when they had the grand prix, they had an operation which co-opted the community to provide billeted accommodation for visitors."

    • Yep, there's a very minor drift left that happens a few seconds after letting go of the steering wheel, but not enough to bother me. Enjoying the car still!

    • Sounds good.  I don't 100% understand what your getting at here. When you say, "I keep seeing YouTube videos where people have new paint and primer land on the old clearcoat that isn't even dulled down" do you mean this - there is a panel with factory paint, without any prep work, they paint the entire panel with primer, then colour then clear?  If that's what you mean, sure it will "stick" for a year, 2 years, maybe 3 years? Who knows. But at some stage it will flake off and when it does it's going to come off in huge chunks and look horrific.  Of course read your technical data sheet for your paint, but generally speaking, you can apply primer to a scuffed/prepped clear coat. Generally speaking, I wouldn't do this. I would scuff/prep the clear and then lay colour then clear. Adding the primer to these steps just adds cost and time. It will stick to the clear coat provided it has been appropriately scuffed/prepped first.  When you say, "but the new paint is landing on the old clearcoat" I am imagining someone not masking up the car and just letting overspray go wherever it wants. Surely this isn't what you mean?  So I'll assume the following scenario - there is a small scratch. The person manages to somehow fill the scratch and now has a perfectly flat surface. They then spray colour and clear over this small masked off section of the car. Is this what you mean? If this is the case, yes the new paint will eventually flake off in X number of years time.  The easy solution is to scuff/prep all of the paint that hasn't been masked off in the repair area then lay the paint.  So you want to prep the surface, lay primer, then lay filler, then lay primer, then colour, then clear?  Life seems so much simpler if you prep, fill, primer, colour then clear.  There are very few reasons to go to bare metal. Chasing rust is a good example of why you'd go to bare metal.  A simple dent, there is no way in hell I'm going to bare metal for that repair. I've got enough on my plate without creating extra work for myself lol.
