Converting projector lights to 'standard'(?) h3

My lights were crap so I thought I'd chuck some new ones in.

I decided to go with something I saw on the spur of the moment so they ended up being Phillips "blue vision" (fig.1) which is actually not blue at all but a fake HID style light that has a thin blue filter on the bulb so that no yellow filters through. Resulting in a white light that does not appear blue (at all).

The ones higher in the range filter it even more blue - however this (as it is just a filter and not a true xenon) comes at the cost of actual lighting performance. I stayed clear of the rice and went with performance.

I had the problem that the h3's supplied were slightly different than the ceffy. They didn't have the same plug. Not to worry! Enter stage left peice of wire with little clippy things attached (fig.3)

I just hooked this up so the wire grounded from the body of the headlamp socket ground to the (important if you do this - pay attention to the polarity) ground in the plug (fig.4 nb. in this pic the cover is not mounted to show the wiring).

I then hooked up the positive wire from the bulb to the corresponding socket connection (fig.5).

In practice you want to pull the wires through the rubber seal (fig.1).

To make sure no crap gets in I just taped it up.. not pretty but effective. (fig.2) I duct taped over the electrical tape in the photo just to make sure.

I put it all back on (if you're doing it don't forget your fog light).

With this pack came the parking lights also so I put them in.

The result - fig.3 my old lights there are on the driver side (left as you look at the pic). As you can see the parking light is a bit faded/yellow. In comparison the new guy is bright and shiny (he just woke up) and the normal driving light is emitting much more light (as represented in the photo by the lens flare).

In fig.4 the left hand side is the new light - muchhhHHh better than the right hand side. This is why I needed new lights.

I'm not sure if this was useful to anyone but yeah.. enjoy O_o

its dave from autobarn at chatswood. it good to see that my h3c to h3 conversion is still working(performed in the carpark). :uh-huh:

yes the *blue vision* bulbs arnt exacly blue.

in regard to the h3 hid kit are they 35watt or 50watt?

That little globe is your head light??? All I can say is thank god I got H4s!

Hi T04 - yeah it works still.

The hid kits in the group buy are 35w nominal.

Daveo - I don't know what you mean sorry, I can only imagine you have the povo front lights as opposed to the projectors, whihc probably work better but don't look fully fast and furious

HA HA!

I dont think the projectors look as good on red cefiros, just on the few I have seen. They do however look better on most other colours. Im just playing dude, no need to take it too personally

Heh I was playing too champ - your car/lights does/do look good hehe and I think you hit the nail on the head I never thought about the red coloured ceffies.
