East Melbourne Drift/Drag track !, Now its REALLY time to show your support

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys were trying to spread the word that a Drift Drag track is need in the East to prevent Illgeal street drags and drift get behind this guys.

A few of the NS.com guys have approached there local member for Deakin and he says if there is enough support letter's emails etc he would put it foward and help out.

Here's a link to a thread with a drafted letter to give an outline what we want to be put across to the Vic govt.

Personally i live in the North and iam only 20min from Calder but i think that a facillity is need for people on the other side of town instead of the streets.

Show your support guys.

Sounds like a great idea, when thinking about it its hard to believe that there is only one drag strip in the whole of Melbourne, its great to see such determination to encourage legal street racing, if the government actually read the letter that is being posted i honestly believe that they might consider it. With that accident last week, it really shows how dangerous it is out on the roads, and to come up with an idea such as this can only save lives and make the roads safer.

Good Post

OK I've hacked the letter they had on NS.com and changed it. Guys and Girls feel free to hack mine or point out anything needing changing. Cheers!

Mr Phillip Barresi

Minister for Deakin

PO Box 232

Mitcham VIC 3132

Dear Mr Barresi,

You have no doubt noticed the recent boom in the Victorian import car scene. There is an ever growing number of Japanese high performance and sports cars on Victorian roads but unfortunately the effects of this trend are not always good as we have been shown by the 2 tragic deaths last week in St. Kilda.

As an import owner and active committee member of Skylines Australia Victoria I am writing to you to express my support for the construction of a Car Enthusiasts Recreational Area in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne in which all motor vehicle enthusiasts can use their cars in a controlled and monitored environment. There is a number of reasons why I believe this idea could be of benefit to Victoria and it’s people.

As a representative of SAU Vic I am happy to say that we are now a CAMS (Confederation of Australian Motor Sport) affiliated club which means that we are now able to hold our own motor sport events. The only major issues is finding the facilities and the time to organise and get to the events and this is mainly due to the location of Victorias 2 main RaceDrag circuits, Calder Park and Heathcote both over 1.5 hours away from the South East suburbs.

While I strongly support Calder Park and their efforts to get younger drives off the road into a safer environment I can’t help but feel that this facility is simply out of reach for many. This is due to the fact that the events start at 5pm on a Friday afternoon and I’m sure you can imagine how hard it is to get away from work let alone drive from Knox to either Heathcote or Calder during peak hour. Calder and Heathcote are also only open for use during particular times which can also make it very difficult.

A facility such as the one I am proposing is one I would most certainly make regular use of, and encourage my fellow SAU members and car enthusiasts to make good use of. Young car enthusiasts are an emerging group who must be recognised as a significant subculture of this world not just Melbourne. The government aids in providing facilities for the likes of skateboarders, bike-riders, shooters, swimmers and many others but has failed to provide for us. As I stated earlier currently the only facility available to us in Melbourne is Calder Park and we as a group now believe it is time for the government to recognise and support us. If the Victorian government is really focused on finding a solution to our ever increasing Victorian road toll, Illegal street drags and general on road misbehaviour then I’m sure you will agree that it is time to take a look into this option. One thing we must also consider is the fact that we as Victorian motorists pay our fair share of vehicle related taxes but receive little support and much criticism from the media and general population. Unfortunately much like anything it’s a case of a few bad drivers giving the general import population a bad name and this is something as a member of a responsible car club would like to see changed. Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and we look forward to your consideration of this matter and bringing it before your fellow parliamentary members for discussion.

Yours Sincerely,

Adam Nightingale

Secretary – Skylines Australia Victoria

Send the letter to John Finne on 774 ABC Melbourne Radio. He is an ex REV-HEAD and has alot of community support / power to get things rolling if Mr. Barresi does not respond in favour to our proposal.

Neil Mitchell could also be used but his views are generally narrow minded "That's the LAW...straight'en up boy or I'll throw you in prison" attitude. And I know from listening to his talkback programs that he hates/dislikes/has a fixed opinion for import drivers and is all for the silly band-aid fixes that have been thrown around in the media in he last few weeks.

Get John Finne involved... if he feels the subject and proposal have merrit than I bet more could be done than with community support (not just SAU's community support)

Sounds A 1 guys.

I will tell everyone about this, and i'm sure they'd be up for supporting a drift/race circuit in the eastern suburbs.

Nice 'hack' Adz, the letter sounds real good.

Regards,

Shaun

    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
