I bought some second hand coilovers, and just installed them.

One of the rears is noisy (play in the up-down axis of the shock shaft into the shock body) and clunks (not happy)...

So, I need to get this one rebuilt - who can suggest where and how much?

I remember reading about some place in QLD at around 60 bucks, but can't find the thread using search...

Pls help, have a track day sunday 24th oct, so would like to get it done before then

Cheers :D

Marcus,

Ring:

THE SHOCK ABSORBER RECONDITIONERS

Unit 1/ 18 Aranda St Slacks Creek 4127 (07) 3808 2455

They have recently changed hands to new owners, but their good service should still be the same. I don't think it is as cheap as $60, I think its more like $130 per shock (but thats for a complete rebuild and being resleeved) for the bill I got.

Thanks Chris :D hope they can do it... and hold that motor for me :(

I should really change my sig bah can't be bothered

Are there some shocks that can't be rebuilt? hope these aren't that kind

Always rebuild shocks in pairs, it is not good to have a new one in one side and an old one in the other.

Thanks for that Sydneykid... in your experience, can most jap specs shockers be rebuilt?

Some can, some can't, it is easy to check though. On the top of the shock body there is a cap (the shaft goes through it) that has to be removed if they are serviceable. If the cap has a hex head, or slots, or holes so it can be turned, then they are serviceable. If it has no way of turning it then it is not serviceable.

Hope that is of some help:cheers:

They're on the car now, but I remember that there are four holes in the top of the shock body (the end where where the shaft comes out) but can't remember if there are hex bolts down there...

by the sound of what you've said, that whole cap can be pulled off and serviced.

Thanks for your help, will keep you posted. Hopefully the shockreco place can turn them over by friday

OK, so the run down is thus:

*Speak to Peter @ Shockreco Monday. Tells me that he should be able to turn them around inside of a day, as long as they don't need parts etc.

*Monday night, pull out rear coilovers.

*Tuesday lunchtime, despatch via 'Pack Send' guaranteed next day 9AM delivery.

*Wednesday 8.01AM package arrives at Shockreco.

*Wednesday arvo - talk to Peter, tells me one shaft is knastered. Will need a whole new insert. Trying to source an adjustable (Koni) or non-adjustable Boge.

*Wednesday 4:50 - marcus gives up getting shock back by Friday for weekend track day. Peter calls, tells me he can get the Koni adjustables first thing Thurs morning. Will need some machining work to fit to the shock body, but he is confident that he will have both shocks done ready to go out by lunchtime Thursday... $290ea fitted, but in essence i get a set of new koni adjustable coilovers :)

We wait...

So far, nothing but excellent service. Peter has spent alot of time and effort to turn my shocks around so quickly. Update tomorrow.

Update:

Done this morning, sent out at lunch time. Will be back in my mitts COB tomorrow :D

highly recommend their express service / efforts to source new inserts and put my shocks back together so quickly. Should be official SAU shock rebuilders

Cheers to the Shockabsorber Reconditioners!!

    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
