I bought my car from Mondo Motors a few months back, and it is extremely immaculate for its age, havent had a single problem so far and i've done almost 5000 clicks. I got it checked out comprehensively by an independent RACV inspection and the report came back almost perfect.

I was able to take the car out for a test drive no probs, and the guy I dealt with was more than helpful - in the end I was only too happy to buy from them, plus they gave me a great trade-in price for my EB falcon.

Most of the cars aren't road registered yet and unlike many other dealerships, all cars are locked in the yard.

You may get pissed off cos the cars are locked and you cant sit in them, but as a prospective buyer the least amount of people touching / sitting in a car you are intending to buy is great IMO.

Granted they have there fair share of dodgy examples but it doesnt take a lot of common sense to realise if a car has been thrashed or even done the amount of kays on the odometer.

The bottom line is to have a look at heaps of examples, and do some research on the net about other peoples buying experiences - once you've done that you can easily sort through the salesman garbage from the facts.

After my experiences with Mondo, I would have no problem recommending them to anyone.

(And no, i dont work for them :D)

Some of those stories are pretty bad.

My brother and I went to some car yard. My brother was driving an old 1984 Corona. Had a look around no one aproached us for about 20 minutes and when they did they said "are you looking for a skyline" Yeah we said. Then he said "maybe you should look at the cost of insurance before you look at the car" what a big prick. He had some real nice cars there but the prices geees, an r33 gtst series one was $29000 with 90000 km on it.

Anyway my brother got his new car r33 somewhere else and decided to call in there again coz he saw a smashed up r33 (to my dismay) for sale. We parked and before we had a chance to get out there was someone at the door he said "looking for another skyline because we have a nice one here" blah blah blah or nice and chirpy. I could not believe it just a few weeks ago the dude was almost telling us to F*** off.

in regards to what car you rock up in - i have tried this at many places, and they are all as bad as each other. If you drive in with a car more expensive than the one you are 'looking' at, they treat you like god!

I thought it would be funny to call in at a dealership that I had been to before in my sisters starlet (yes, they ignored me). When i rocked up a month later in the Type R, instantly got attention, then I said i decided I didnt like FWD and wanted RWD. practically begging to hand keys over to me for test drives.

so a little hint, go car shopping in a nice car, makes things so much easier :)

Mick - what happened in the end, you find out what the problem was?

Now guys, I have this all figured out for an afternoons fun.

You get into your old clapped out forty year old VW, and drive around to a Hyundi dealer and ask for a test drive.

You then take the brand new Hyundi around and park it in front of a Ford dealer.

Ask to test drive a basic V8 family car, and then drive this around to a friendly Holden dealer.

Ask for a little drive of one of their optioned up 300KW HSVs.

Then around the corner to the Ferrari dealer.................

yer i had the same experience when i started looking for a skyline!

i;d rock up in my BitsareMissing Lancer (94 model .. not really that shizer) anyway... the dealers were absolute friggen tools. they all told me to come back once i had an insurance quote. i had the dosh but no one seemed to want it???

i realise car dealers have to be cautious and cant just let everyone come and in drive their cars.. but they dont need to be so damn rude!

as soon as my mate jimih told me you could import skylines at fraction of the cost i was laughing!!! i couldnt believe the price discrepancy... most import dealers are getting what they deserve for being such pricks.

i hate to be so negative but after going to the 10th car dealership and theres some guy being rude to me AND when i tell them that im after a series "2" and i get the response "ummm.. theres actually not really any difference between a series 1 and series 2 expect for the front and rear spoiler," i got a little frustratedangryfire.gif

hahah, Sounds like Moore's car world to me!

I went looking at a 14k Turbo Silvia...with my mate.. rocked up in a pretty-trick sonata.... would NOT let us take one for a drive!

he said, "once your ready with insurance, and finance and ready to buy we'll take to you for a drive"

3 weeks later my mate wen out and bought a commodore, and I bought a skyline... both nearly double the price of this silvia...

f*cktards!

Yer dave i actualy fixed the airbag problem ...

After an all nighter on the net searching for info on airbags i nearly gave up when i came across the cure i was searching for..

THIS IS HOW TO RESET THE AIRBAG COMPUTER

First you have to put the system into the diagnostic mode. Here's how to do this:

From User Mode To Diagnosis Mode:

Diagnosis Mode activates only when a malfunction is detected, by pressing the driver's door switch at least 5 times within 7 seconds after turning the ignition "ON". SRS will not enter Diagnosis Mode if no malfunction is detected.

From Diagnosis Mode to User Mode:

After a malfunction is repaired, switch the ignition "OFF" for at least 1 second , then back "ON". Diagnosis Mode returns to User Mode. If switching Diagnosis Mode to User Mode is required while malfunction is being detected, switch the ignition "OFF", then back "ON" and press the driver's door switch at least 5 times within 7 seconds.

After a malfunction is repaired, return to User Mode from Diagnosis Mode by switching the ignition "OFF" for at least 1 second, then back "ON". At that time, the problem code is cleared

Sorry for not posting this earlier,i have just been a lazy bitch..

    • As far as I can tell I have everything properly set in the Haltech software for engine size, injector data, all sensors seem to be reporting proper numbers.  If I change any injector details it doesnt run right.    Changing the base map is having the biggest change in response, im not sure how people are saying it doesnt really matter.  I'm guessing under normal conditions the ECU is able to self adjust and keep everything smooth.   Right now my best performance is happening by lowering the base map just enough to where the ECU us doing short term cut of about 45% to reach the target Lambda of 14.7.  That way when I start putting load on it still has high enough fuel map to not be so lean.  After 2500 rpm I raised the base map to what would be really rich at no load, but still helps with the lean spots on load.  I figure I don't have much reason to be above 2500rpm with no load.  When watching other videos it seems their target is reached much faster than mine.  Mine takes forever to adjust and reach the target. My next few days will be spent making sure timing is good, it was running fine before doing the ECU and DBW swap, but want to verify.  I'll also probably swap in the new injectors I bought as well as a walbro 255 pump.
    • It would be different if the sealant hadn't started to peel up with gaps in the glue about ~6cm and bigger in some areas. I would much prefer not having to do the work take them off the car . However, the filler the owner put in the roof rack mount cavities has shrunk and begun to crack on the rail delete panels. I cant trust that to hold off moisture ingress especially where I live. Not only that but I have faded paint on as well as on either side of these panels, so they would need to come off to give the roofline a proper respray. My goal is to get in there and put a healthy amount of epoxy instead of panel filler/bog and potentially skin with carbon fiber. I have 2 spare rolls from an old motorcycle fairing project from a few years back and I think it'd be a nice touch on a black stag.  I've seen some threads where people replace their roof rack delete with a welded in sheet metal part. But has anyone re-worked the roof rails themselves? It seems like there is a lot of volume there to add in some threads and maybe a keyway for a quick(er) release roof rack system. Not afraid to mill something out if I have to. It would be cool to have a cross bar only setup. That way I can keep the sleek roofline that would accept a couple bolts to gain back that extra utility  3D print some snazzy covers to hide the threaded section to be thorough and keep things covered when not using the rack.
    • Probably not. A workshop grade scantool is my go to for proper Consult interrogation. Any workshop grade tool should do it. Just go to a workshop.
    • In my head it does make sense to be a fuel problem since that is what I touched when cleaning the system. When I was testing with the fuel pressure gauge, the pressure was constantly 2.5 bar with the FPR vacuum removed. When stalling, the pressure was going up to 3.0 bar (which is how it should be on ignition).
    • ECUtalk pages don't mention they support the ABS computer (consult port has more than one CAN), so you might just need a different scan tool. But, I would expect ABS is a different light to the brake warning/handbrake light, do you see an ABS light come on for a few seconds when you turn the key from ACC to IGN? But since you said: I'd have a look at the ABS sensors in the rear hubs to make sure they are not damaged, disconnected etc.
