Hey all, my engine bay is a little on the dirty side so this weekend I was thinking of getting some degreaser and borrow a pressure sprayer ang give it a clean up. Before I do it but I just want to ask around and see if anybody has done this and if its ok to do or will it cause some probs in the engine?

:cheers;

Actually dont use a pressure cleaner (You got Electrics and shit there). Sometimes the degreaser might be too harmful to plastic. What i use is that spray that you clean the interior with (eg. the dash) and by hand clean every part. It takes a long time but turns out great.

Don't use degreaser.

The only thing it is good for is causing damage.

(And it's extremely bad for the environment)

Go to your local Autobarn/Repco/Bursons and seek out a product made by Kenco called "Shift-It".

It is the most brilliant product around.

Works better than degreaser, removes grease, oil, dirt, it won't cause hoses to start perishing (like degreaser will) and it won't strip the skin off your hands (like degreaser will)

Once you've tried it, you'll never look back. :D

i use a pressure cleaner ( 90 degrees C ) when i finish i blow it with compessed air , then start the engine and run it until it gets hot . sometimes i have to take off the sprk plug cover to blow off the water from there .

thats what all the car detailers do too.

What about those dodgy infomercial steam cleaner units?

Actually I doubt they work.

informercial steam clean units ? dont know them kris .

i use a normal hot pressure cleaner like gernie but a different brand it works on anything .

i clean the engine bay and under the car as well as brakes and the wheels inside .

did you get your car on the road yet ?

happy with the work zorrance did ?

Hey Jerry,

Zoran did good work. The compliance guys were really great actually and took only 2 days to do all the work. Simon was really helpful thru the whole process so yeah, thanks again to you for pointing me their way. The compliance plate is in the mail from Canberra it was due to arrive today but looks like Australia Post dropped the ball and it wont be there till Monday - another weekend without the car!! It's all good though.

Do you detail/clean a few engine bays/cars? Im looking at getting the GTR detailed soon too.

just a comment to those steam cleaners, my parents use these both in the house and at work, and im tellin u now, they work remarkably well, no hassles of chemicals and water goin everywhere, just let it heat up and start sprayin, i use the smaller hand held one for many things in my engine bay, removing stickers and badges, mags/brakes, and also the interior...

cheers...ben.

Thanks ben... I wonder if they sell them in stores now because Danoz want $249 for one and im certain they arent worth that much still.

Godfreys (the vaccuum cleaner shop) have the small hand held one on sale this week for $40 or $50 However, i've got one, and it just seems like a lot of hassle without the results that i'm after.

It did bugger all to remove brake dust from the wheels, and overall i wasn't impressed by it.

no i dont do it on a commercial basis .

the steam cleaners that they are talking about are designed to clean the house ,car interior and what have you not engine bays .

we have one that we use in the house and i use it to clean the car seats and trim .

its an italian job , we had it for about 10 yers long before these cheap asian things came around and it was like $2000 then .

i'm glad yoy got your car done without any hassles , did they have to change the pads ?

i hope you get your plate sooooon , i bet you cant wait to drive it !!

    • Thanks mate, couldn't find in VIC, ended up ordering one from NSW, getting rwc to get new plates and registration done.
    • Before all the EFR fan boys come in, have a look at: https://www.garrettmotion.com/racing-and-performance/performance-catalog/turbo/g-series-ii-g30-825-58mm/ It also comes in a T4 1.06 divided housing. I would dare say if you want response & also decent power, this thing would chop.   AND apologies, just re-read your post, you've already bought the turbo... whatever you do, make sure you stick with divided housing and proper twin scroll manifold.
    • People have got to stop doing that. ShatGPT is not a search engine. It is a hallucination factory.   I also would recommend the 1.05. The .83 will "work" for you , in that it will be more responsive, but I think you'll find that it won't be anywhere near as good running it out to 8000rpm as the big housing will be.
    • Decided for the first time ever I would tow my car TO the track day on the same working theory as bringing tools and spares "if I have it I wont need it, but if I leave it behind i will 100% need it" all setup and ready to go out and try these A050 for the first time First session showed I needed to stiffen up the dampers a touch but still managed a few 1:21's without much effort. things were looking good. Came in a dropped the tyres down  to 26/28 as they had gotten to 35/33C from 22C cold The first lap of session two I managed to drop into 1:20's. Then in the second lap into the second session. Coming into T3 and I suddenly lost brake pedal followed by some huge rear end vibrations and scraping sounds. Got it back into the pits after session ended and found this. in the attached video, all of the wobble is in the hub its self, wheel is mint, and bearing feels tight. lKXLqpd - Imgur.mp4   Deciding it was a bent spindle I tried to find bearing/hub assembly locally but was unsuccessful so it was loaded back onto the trailer i luckily brought it on to drag it back home
