i used to own a 86 levin with 4age. it had 200,000km's on the clock and still went upto and sounded incredible at 8,700rpm with ease. it was my first car. i really regret selling it...

edit:

found a picture of it. wasn't as advanced with all the digicams back then... so hardly had any good photos with it... the red car was my friends trueno... both our first cars... u know the feeling how good it is to first get your p's... we went fanging every night, and dreamt about upgrading to better cars... besides the new driving sensation, i was quite embarassed to drive that car around and wanted nothing more than to get rid of it and buy myself a better car... the irony of that... i miss it so much now...

i know a guy that is pretty into them, he has a few for sale but as Duncan pointed out they are a bit over priced!

we did pick one up with rust for $200 though.. that is the one we are working on now..

wouldn't be hard to put the SR20 into these cars 180xdrifterj... even the rb26 would fit with a bit of work to the front radiatoe support!

i have seen one with a 20B cosmo motor in it.. that hauled!!!

if anyone is series in buying these i can source a few locally for you!

i am serious in buying one but they are really hard to find; i would buy one with out a motor even and rust through out it... i would just put a sr20 in it :) if you could find one thats wrecked or something thats cheap, then PM me back dude cos i really want to own one!

oh, and i wouldnt mind puttin a rb26 in it; but they are too heavy and i would intend it for drift purposes so having it so heavy in the front end wouldnt help that much :D

cheers,

-Josh

i have found 2 already for 4 grand each.. i might be able to get him down if i got both sold at the same time. the guy who is selling these knows how rare they are and will be hard to talk down any!

condition of them is unknown as i have not gone to see them, i can check them out if people want and take a few happy snaps of em and check general condition!

this guy likes them so much he put an add in the paper to try and find more!!

umm, their not exactly rare. Just go on www.toymods.org.au and u'll find several for sale all the time.

From what i've noticed the pricing for them goes like this:

Bog stock aussie model = $500-$4000

Ausie model with 4a-ge = $5000 - $7000 depending on mods

Heavily moded ausie model = $8000+

Jdm stocka or light mods = $8000-$10,000

jdm off its tits or aus of its tits = $10,000 +

*That* is exactly what I mean....$10k for a rusty 20yo toyota? too many people watching cartoons out there....

If you could get them for a decent price, say $2k like other cars of that age, then great :P but for $10k plus a couple of grand you could have an R32 GTR instead

Thats true and i see your points.. i thought it was strange to get for so high a price!

they are nice looking cars when they are done right, but the one we just picked up for $200 had 2 holes in the block of the old 4a, could even see where the rod had done a lap around the sump!

bit of rust to fix, but with the right kits they look the goods - better than standard corrolla IMHO

rear wheel drive and quick with the right engine!

will be looking into toymods alot - most of them have already been modified and high prices from i saw there!

Duncan - hook me up with a GTR for $12K !! :P

Just where in the hell are you buying R32 GTRs for $12k? Off the back of a truck?

    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
