Howdi!

I have a couple of questions.

What is the size of a stock R33 GTST turbo?

What good would a GT28 roller bearing turbo be on a R33 GTST?

Also, if you run the above turbo without an intercooler, what are the side effects?

Your help would be much appreciated... I have been having a heated discussion with someone regarding this topic.

Thanks.

Erica.

RB25 runs a T3... swap commonly done to r32s or rb20/ca18 in general...

GT28 and T28 are totally different btw... GT28 is a fair wack bigger...

GT28 should spool up ok - it wont spool as quick as the standard T3... but prolly 300rpm after or so?

GT28 without front mount would be pushing it thats for sure - especially with summer coming up it would ping badly

reminder - coolers do drop inlet temps down... but they are worse for engine temps as they block the rad air flow a bit - aftermarket radiators this summer peoples!

cheeky, you know that a lot of us are too shy to answer your question(s) just in case John prove us wrong :P

When are you getting the 33? Will it be white again?

If I have my pick I will go for the silver one with nismo wheel on it...hint...hint :D

Hey dude...

I spoke to John about it, he isn't firmiliar with GTSTs as he is with GTRs. Thats ok though. yeah those nismo rims are totally tuff.

I was thinking about getting an 33 and totally love my skylines, but I've decided on something of german quality and style, its just easier, maybe next year I'll get another skyline.

umm are u guys talkin about a stock turbo on a R33 gtst....i thought they had T3's on em????? i dunno wher eu guys got ur info from..bu the way cheeky i seen u in adelaide once when i was still there as im in the gold coast now nice car u got....

  • 3 weeks later...

it seemed this thread got whored more than a proper reply posted ...

anyway so i dont start another thread :

- the r33 gts-t stock turbo is same size as what garreat/khs turbo

im wanting to upgrade and there is so many different turbo's out there claiming this and that and saying you need this trim and that flow rate and this flange size and that

wastegate actuation ability

ahhhh , some 1 please explain without whoreing and bullshiting what you think will be the best setup in your opinion

    • Bit of a pity we don't have good images of the back/front of the PCB ~ that said, I found a YT vid of a teardown to replace dicky clock switches, and got enough of a glimpse to realize this PCB is the front-end to a connected to what I'll call PCBA, and as such this is all digital on this PCB..ergo, battery voltage probably doesn't make an appearance here ; that is, I'd expect them to do something on PCBA wrt power conditioning for the adjustment/display/switch PCB.... ....given what's transpired..ie; some permutation of 12vdc on a 5vdc with or without correct polarity...would explain why the zener said "no" and exploded. The transistor Q5 (M33) is likely to be a digital switching transistor...that is, package has builtin bias resistors to ensure it saturates as soon as base threshold voltage is reached (minimal rise/fall time)....and wrt the question 'what else could've fried?' ....well, I know there's an MCU on this board (display, I/O at a guess), and you hope they isolated it from this scenario...I got my crayons out, it looks a bit like this...   ...not a lot to see, or rather, everything you'd like to see disappears down a via to the other side...base drive for the transistor comes from somewhere else, what this transistor is switching is somewhere else...but the zener circuit is exclusive to all this ~ it's providing a set voltage (current limited by the 1K3 resistor R19)...and disappears somewhere else down the via I marked V out ; if the errant voltage 'jumped' the diode in the millisecond before it exploded, whatever that V out via feeds may have seen a spike... ....I'll just imagine that Q5 was switched off at the time, thus no damage should've been done....but whatever that zener feeds has to be checked... • I think Fitmit had some, have a look on there (theyre Australian as well)
    • Hah, fair enough! But if you learn with this one you can drive any other OEM manual. No modern luxury features like auto rev-matching or hillstart assist to give you a false sense of confidence. And a heavy car with not that much torque so it stalls easily.
    • Actually, I'd say all three are the automatic option. Just the different trim levels. The manual would be RSFS, no?
