Im having this huge argument with my mate about the new skylines, and i even got my skyline on the line as a bet if im wrong. But i no im right...

anyways he keeps saying there is something called a R35, and when i tell him about the R32,33,34 being named after the RB engines...and the S13,S14,S15 named after the SR engines...and well he is saying, why were the R30, R31 named that way when they aint using an RB engine or are they?

which i am curious about....? so why were the R30 and R31's named the way they were....?

And i also explained how they new skyline with the VQ35DE engine and because of this its called the V35. But then he is like why isnt the 350z start with a V as well, which is my second question?

basically what im trying to ask, does nissan have a pattern in how they name their cars? apart from the silvia's and the skyline's....which were named aftert he engine types, im quite unsure about other nissans. But like the GtiR which has the SR20det in it...why was that named the way it was?

SO if you guys can help me thanks! and ohhh please dont start giving me crap about "the search engine is your friend" coz i honestly cant find shyt from it!

thanks for the help people

Cheers

Ok here goes... and I hope you don't lose your car!

Who ever said that Nissan designates the 1st letter of the chassis code after the engine?

The Z33 Failady Z/350Z wasn't called a "V"33 because it's not a Skyline... the first letters of the chassis code are different for different models even though they carry the same engine. What you said about the S13/14/15 Silvias and 180SXs isn't correct either, because the S13 Silvia (turbo) was first released with the infamous CA18DET, not the SR20DET. Final point: the engine code may have some bearing on the chassis code designation, but you answered your own question regarding this because if Nissan did indeed use the 1st letter of the engine code as the 1st letter of the chassis code, then we'd have a "V"33 350Z wouldn't we?!

To answer your mate, NO... there is no R35!!! If he has access to some secret Nissan insider info that I don't know about this, please get him to PM me!

although, there is an element of truth to it... an HR32 is a 2.0L R32, an ER33 is a 2.5L R33, and a ER34 is a 2.5L R34.

So an R32 isn't named after the engine it carries, but an HR32, HCR32, BNR32, HNR32 etc all are named after the engines they carry

also a PS13 is a 2.0L silvia and an S13 is a 1.8L silvia. An RPS13 is a 2.0L 180sx, and an RS13 is a 1.8L 180sx ;)

Alright, but our man Guilty was saying that the V in "V"35 meant it had a VQ35DE...

So to make it easy for Guilty, the "E" in ECR33/34 means 2.5L RB25? And the "H" in H*R32 means 2.0L RB20? I dare say the RB20E R33 Skyline was dubbed HR33?

*checks Car Sensor* yep... HR33 = RB20E.

Just like the S15 - I've seen on Nissan Japan and Carview's websites, it's got the type as GF-S15. Both S13 and S14 appear as E-S13 & E-S14 on Carview's website.

The following is the meaning behind the name to some of nissan's cars - for those who is interested. You'll need babelfish for translation if u cant read japanese like me.

Btw, R31 Skylines ran the RB20 series engines in Japan (a diesel engine too).

The diesel engine was the RD28 ;)

[edit]

And the Aus R31's have the RB30 in them

The search engine is your friend.... ;)

Heyy guys

thanks for the replies, dw i won't lose my car on this...I told himthat if he could find an official nissan site containing information on an R35, than he can have my keys, but until then i doubt he will find it.!

Rezz, this question is specifically for you!

What is the difference between the G35 and the V35.....

What i gather is the the V35, is the new skyline officially released in japan, while the G35 is simply a name given to the american version of the V35, which was officially released in america. Sorta like the japanese silvia and 200sx thingy....so is that correct?

oh thankss for the info guys!!

ohh one more thing

if the R33 is ECR33, and 2.0L is the HR33...etc.

then what is the specific chasis model for the V35?

One thing that im kinda confused about is that, if nissan didnt really base the "r"32,33,34 on the RB engine or the "s"13,14,15 on the SR engine...

then why would the new skyline be called a V35, if its not named afta the VQ engine or?

The thing i dun really get is, is there any particular type of pattern which nissan uses to name there cars?

From all the information that you guys have posted, what i am assuming is that the model no. or Chassis family of the car is named/based on the Specific Chassis code for the car. Am i correct when i say this?

Yes, thats essentially it. The US Infiniti "G35" (coupe) is a model name, so shouldn't be confused with the chassis code "[uA-CP]V35" (coupe).

You could actually say "V35 Infinti G35"... but there would just be too much confusion and/or explaining for US peeps to handle I think. So G35 for the US delivered version.

Other than that, I think there are slight trim differences (ie: shape of the seats/headrests, fabrics, soundsystem specs, colours etc) and of course the badging. Everything else is practically the same.

then what is the specific chasis model for the V35?

GH-V35 = 2.5L sedan

GH-HV35 = 3.0L sedan

UA-PV35 = 3.5L sedan

UA-CPV35 = 3.5L coupe (only 1 engine avail.)

So going by that, a "V35" Skyline means it's a 2.5L V6! An "HV35" Skyline is a 3.0L V6 and so on...

As for your 2nd question, you have to remember that the "***V35" Skyline is a completely new generation of Skyline, so it doesn't carry the "R" designation anymore. As it has been said in many a Japanese BBS forum, Skyline enthusiasts shouldn't make a connection with the "R" series Skylines anymore, because even as good as they were, they are in actual fact obsolete technology and hence cannot be updated (or continuation of the family line can't happen). A similar thing happened when the C210 Skyline changed to the R30 series...

and the silvia had Q K J and club spec didn't it?

K for ca18det or sr20det

Q for ca18de or sr20de

J for ca18de or sr20de (unsure why its a j spec?) - anyone?

King queen jack?

Yep, more or less... but Silvia K's, Q's and J's are model names, as you say Q's and J's both came with SR20DEs so the model name is more of and "overall vehicle spec for the layman" type definition rather than the chassis code/VIN which goes into MUCH more detail.

    • I hope it's actually possible. This is a write off in insurance world.
    • Yup. 2-way with shallow ramp angles. Still works.
    • That was the first session so not a lot to take from the day. It was low 20s ambient and the coolant had got to 110 (and obviously had some pressure!) so that still needs to be addressed. I haven't downloaded the data yet but will. I had refilled the auto trans with Redline DT6 because it claimed the best viscosity I could find at 100o. It wasn't really long enough to get a good feel for that; while the trans got to 100o in the session it still wasn't shifting crisply as I hoped. I think I'll try a few more sessions before judging. No steering motor overheat but I'd hope not in only 1 session! But finally the suspension; it was night and day over the standard stuff and the car was a couple of seconds quicker on the same crappy tyres, which is a huge difference. I'll stick with that and get some sway bars and a mechanical diff sorted too and see how that all goes together
    • I guess it’s partially a compromise of how my car is used, wanting to be able to switch from drift to grip with track side on-car adjustment. Also partially with the way the knuckles are set there is more static camber but less dynamic camber gain.
    • OK, so update from the track day on Friday It was a classic "an unfortunate series of events'. There were a few cars around and when i checked my mirror coming out of the fish hook I notice some smoke from the rear of mine. Looked again and it was getting much worse, I figured I'd blown a turbo or something to got off it and pulled off the racing line. However.... since it is a left hairpin into a right kink, I was on the inside of the next corner. There was a car passing me on the left and a big drop off over the ripple strip on the right......and someone had knocked the witch's hat that was on the apex about 1m onto the track. So, between those 3, I decided to mow down the cone and not damage my car/the other car. Right choice, but surprising result.  The car decided the cone was a small pedestrian so it blew the rear bonnet hinges up to protect their head in the upcoming person to car impact....I didn't see that coming and like an airbag deployment it happened super fast. Straight into the pits from there, everything was driving fine but it became clear it was a coolant leak not smoke, it was billowing up onto the windscreen. Onto the trailer and home. I'll do a separate thread about the repair (once I work out what it is ), but the immediate problem was the bonnet wouldn't open because the front was pinched onto the front bar and would not release. Ultimately we unbolted the hinge from the bonnet, pulled it back a little and it released from the front OK. "There's your problem", the top radiator hose had popped off at the radiator.
