Hi ppls,

I'm after a set of new ~550cc injectors.

I figure I could get a set of RX7 V 550cc injectors for a decent price but I would then have to have them flowed & tested which bumps the price up close to that of new injectors.

Another thing that concerns me with the RX7 injectors is the spray pattern.

'Apparently' they have more of a squirt than a fine atomistation.

The squirt is fine for performance as it works well to get the fuel in but for fuel economy it is not the best.

Has any one got these Injectors and have kept an eye on the fuel consumption before and after the install?

I am looking at possibly importing:

Sard 550cc's (~600-700)

Nismo 555cc's (~700-800)

or possible even go to the HKS 600cc (~800-900).

I have no idea on the spray pattern of the aftermarket injectors and if they are indeed setup to squirt or atomise the fuel for good emissions/fuel economy. For all out power the squirt type injectors are apparently the way to go.

I can find RX7 5 injectors for around $300 or so + $200 for flow & clean. Thats ~$500 which is pretty close to the price of bran spankin new injectors.

There is a guy up here who reckons he can highflow existing rb25 ones to 780cc.. Says not by simply enlarging the actual nozzle size which can cause spray issues, but replacing the whole pintle? Says they have been tested with excellent results at high HP with no issues (of course he would say that)

It sounded dubious to me.. What issues would there be with this? Is this guy talking out his butt?

I am willing to spend the $$.

Mid January is when the injectors will be needed so I've got a little time to do a little bit of research in to what is good.

I want some thing that not only does the job but does the job better.

My 32 is a daily driver so I prefer to have good fuel economy.

At the moment the 3ltr on the rb20det ecu nudges 500km's to a tank on occasions and never gets any lower than 430km's per tank, exactly the same as what the RB20DET used to get. I want to try and keep that fuel economy.

Providing the injectors are atomising the fuel correctly I don't see why a larger 550cc injector wouldn't provide the same fuel economy after the PowerFC is all tuned up to suit the 3ltr.

I would never think about highflowed injectors, they make me nervous.

I have a problem trusting peoples abilities.

Can any one throw around their fuel economy figures?

larger injectors always mean bad fuel consumption....;)

More power = more fuel needed....as you know Joel

My RX-7 550's use about the same as std economy when off boost, but like said above, dont expect std fuel economy with some big guns installed ;)

I'm more concerned about the spray pattern and atomisation.

That is what affects fuel economy.

550cc's aren't that large and should still be able to atomise fuel well.

It appears there are also injectors that the spray pattern is designed around 2 inlet valves etc.

what bout some vr4 injectors or injectors from a 7mgte supra engine?

for the vr4 injectors you have to bore the rail a tad for them to slip in and i believe you have to do the same for the 7m ones.

you may have to run a dropping resistor pack for them, but its another alternative should you choose aftermarket injectors.

yeah there both side feed, purple top sr20's injectors are 370cc injectors, s15 red top injectors are 480cc

a certain knowledgable person claims single pintle injectors are the only ones hes seen to have issues, ie sard.. and recommended to go for 4 pintle ones, ie nismo

logically thinking i would assume the 4 pintle ones would have better spray and atomisation over a larger single pintle injector

I hi flowed my standard injectors to 660cc. No real difference in fuel consumption. Power from 380rwhp to 420rwhp with ease. Never had trouble with them. Now there making over 450rwhp.  ONly difference noticed was at idle.

What Idle differences did you notice?

I got the Nismo 555cc's and noticed that idle sounds a bit rough every now and again

    • Hello all I have 2 r34 sedans , one turbo one na, only recently aquired the na 34.  Man what is with these things.... My turbo 34 started sounding like a super charger, it was screaming at anything above 4000rpm , I took the alternator apart and replaced the front bearing which is the only one I think you can access and it did not fix the issue so presumably the bearing in the rear of the alternator is gone. ( diagnosed it was the alternator by taking off the aux belts one by one to figure out which pulley or bearing it was )  My friend gave me one he had lying around, Installed it , it did not squeal for maybe 500kms and now its started to squeal again briefly on startup  Recently got an na r34 and I replaced the timing belt, water pump + all the auxillirary belts. Runs amazing but it suddenly developed the same squeaking problem but significantly worse, Ive had my neighbour come down screaming at me because it was waking her up everytime I moved the car. It takes a good 2 minutes before it quietens down.  Im yet to diagnose where its coming from but im fairly sure its coming from the alternator aswell. My question isnt about how to fix it but rather where can you get a new alternator for an rb25 neo??? Ive searched everywhere but I havent been able to find a direct fit oem type replacement thats not genuine. All the automotive stores sell an oex one - BXA035 - which I picked up for cheap through a friend with staff discount , got it home only to find the connector is completelty different.... As far as im aware bxa035 is for rb20/30's and after a bit of figuring out the bxa035 has an ev14 type connector, which is tiny compared to the rb25 connector. I actually had an ev14 connector lying around which I was considering just replacing the bigger plug with to get the alternator working but the bxa035 is rated for 70amp vs the rb25 alternators are 90amp ( or so ive been told ? ) That paired along with the fact im about to install an amp + sub in the back and I have the stock sized small battery Im not sure itll do the job unless anyone has another opinion?  I know and have seen all the websites selling the ls1 alternator conversion kit but I am not going down that route, nor do I have the money to. Hopefully I can figure out how to get 2 brand new alternators for both cars. I would buy second hand which there seems to be many of but considering how common this seems to be im sure If I installed a second hand one it would start squealing in no time  Or even better if anyone knows how to fix the issue directly with the alternator itself... Any input appreciated Thank you     Link for bxa035 connector picture
    • As above, replace as many as you can afford. If anything, due to old age.
    • Can confirm previous shop that built my motor had no fking clue about oil control and caused my motor to shit itself after two track days. Current shop, Birrong Automotive, has managed to build me a motor, not to mention, has also let me tune it myself and it has yet to blow up after 7 track days. Great oiling success, yashimash.
    • It definitely seems like you have no beef, with only digging up a 5 year old post, to comment on an inflammatory item with total insensitivity, and of which had nothing to do with the thread.  Yep, you definitely seem like a great person and your friends and family would be so proud to know of your lovely actions
    • Thanks buddy, so happy to be back! Managed to pickup a Unicorn R34 completely stock and clean. Looking forward to adding some goodies to it and posting one here. I'm shocked that so many forums stopped. If you could find my old profile - I'd love that if its possible. My old account was JET200GT. My email might need to be fixed too. To use this one. I think it was the same though..
