I'D say get the gts4, i used to have one and I had the attesa (4wd system) on a Switch so I could have it either 4wd or 2wd. Fantastic mix of both.

do all gts4's have this attesa system on a switch????? if so then sounds like it is a gts4! if not how much to get it on a switch????

ITs not on a switch. However the system is can be found on the fuse. So its as simple as finding the wires and putting a switch in there. I think you'll find that the system wont reset untill the car is turned off. This means that you wont be able to drive in 4wd then flip the switch and hey presto rwd.

I met a guy at the SAU vic member sign up bbq a few months back who had set up a switch on his gts4 that let him switch from 4wd to 2wd and back.

I asked him about it not resetting etc and he said that his works perfectly - it switches back and forward fine.

GTS-T .. lighter.. and if you ever want to upgrade later on its much simpler to drop an RB25, do an RB30, or grab any other rb20.. rather than hunt down the 4WD variants (rare)

Also if you ever want to work on your car, less stuffing around with 4WD gearboxes, 2nd diffs, etc.. I had the choice myself when i went to import, but for some of those reasons changed my mind.

Anyhow, depends what you want to do with the car I guess. This may ruffle a few feathers, but if you want 4WD get a GTR :headspin:

Finding a good GTS4 may be hard also, not as many around.

I have a 92 GTS4 and it has side indicators they are put on as part of compliance so most 89 imports under the 15yo rule wont have indicators

If you are looking for mainly drift style driving go the gtst however if you want to drive through mountain roads go the gts4 where the extra traction helps heaps they also hold their value better as they are rarer

I wouldnt do much drifting...I prefer good acceleration & handling.

The car i am looking at is a 92 GTS4 Auto, with side indicvators. How do the auto's compare to the manuals?

My mate has a 92 GTSt & it doesnt have side indicators?

My car ia also Auto I find it quite good though technically you are losing a bit of power with the auto then some when its 4wd and its heavier.

Its really up to you whether u like auto or not you can always do a swap if its within your budget

I have only a small amount of mods and have so far put a WRX of my friends with more mods to shame from a standing start thanks to stalling the auto up.

If you want the 4WD then buy a GTR. The GTS4 is too underpowered to give the system justice anyway. It is actually slower than the GTST but better 60FT time. They are more expensive to fix and when you start getting the surging while cruising, it will give you the shits coz the 4WD pump costs shitloads and is a common problem with them. I have driven both and the GTST handles better in the dry than the GTS4. But the GTS4 does better in the wet....by far. Don't ask me why it handles better...it just does. The steering is really hard and the car jumps all over the place where the GTST stays on a much smoother line. All I can say is take both for a drive and be the judge yourself. Don't just take it down the street and back either. Drive it for a good half hour or so, usually the GTS4's float all over the place. The GTS4 will hold it's value for longer than the GTST. The GTS4 will wear out more clutches than the GTST.

Some may disagree with all of this but I only speak from my experience and I don't like to drive them. You should see what I mean when you drive this one. You will feel the difference straight away.

One last point. In my GTST I don't even think about racing people in the wet. It is dangerous for all. I think you would be more proned to doing this in a GTS4 which can only lead to an unhappy ending. But in the end...you be the judge!

    • I've looked up the parts number (41011AL501). It's around $700 OEM. Usually our Infiniti G35 here in Canada have interchangeable parts with my Stagea but the parts number are not the same. I have looked around and it seems the JDM 2005 V35 Skyline (which is the same as our G35) has the same caliper but I cannot confirm. And I can't find a repair kit. The inner brake pads drags on the rotor, seems to be rusty piston. Thanks for the info by the way
    • This coupled with 6-9 speed autos with ridiculously short gearing is why these modern shitbox cars always seem so fast off the line. If it wasn't for those things, Raptors would not seem fast. The problem we have is there is a driveability gap between a more gentle take off and a wheelspinning sideways launch. The difference between ankle flex required to achieve one and ankle flex required to achieve the other is about 0.5°.
    • Yeah I think I'm also with the opposite here. It's 'hard to keep up with traffic' because in the real world I'm accelerating with 15% throttle and they are pinning it. It feels like I'm being an overt dickhead at anything above 15% throttle, so the car sounds like I'm being an overt dickhead to keep up with/get ahead of traffic when I'm really just trying to drive with traffic. There would be no issue 'keeping up with traffic' if we used the same level of throttle input/aggression to drive around. People really do just drive around with their foot nearly pinned in econoboxes.
    • To be fair it's the other way around. 300kw is boring in a modern Golf or BMW. They are so competent / well-engineered / devoid of emotion that you have to go stupid fast to feel anything. Whereas the <300kw RB still makes all the right noises and it feels good to drive. Can pull off at the lights with the turbo whooshing and the blow-off pssshing and feel like the coolest kid on the block. Just don't look to the side where you'll see the bored housewifes in their shitbox Yaris/Corolla/Camry that kept up because you didn't go fast at all
