My front and rear tyres clear my guards ok, but if i try to go any wider i have probs with rims hitting control arms etc etc.

So has anyone looked/installed aftermarket arms and realised they have an extra inch or two clearance for wider rims?

I suppose im dreaming of being able to fit 265/17s , 17x9s on the back of my R32 GTST, want to improve my corner speed at the track:)

ive dummy fitted 9.5" rims to the rear of my r32 Roy...same offset as i have on there now, (going from an 8" to 9.5" rim) and it clears the suspension the same.

I was told i could get away with it if fitting say 245 wides on the rim...but i dunno if that would help you on the track :)

265's....may be pushing it a tad.....255's....maybe...just :)

i think i should have the rims you are using, and you can get another set that won't hit the arms.

sorry that was of no help :)

When its hitting the control arm is it also too close to the guards? If not you might be able to fit it by changing the offset.

Also, make sure you check with the tyre you are trying to fit. 265 r tyres are *much* wider than 265 road tyres :)

One of our cars will probabley run 17 x 9 this weekend. Will be rolling the guards, but not sure on tyre sizing yet.

I think you can over tyre them and we tend to stick to the Dunlop tyre/rim size register.

Will let you know the outcome.

TT

....but I will check offset and rim type.

We ran 5 laps at Symmons today for a shake down and no worries. We have rolled the lips and have a set of GTR guards to go on, but not needed.

I think that 8.5 would be the go all round, but nobody seems to make 'em.

we are hunting tomorrow, so will let you know.

265's seem to be over the top... What are you going to run 'em on, an old 20litre drum LOL

Cheers

    • Hope you aren't too sore after that one, might take a day or 2 to notice yet and I guess it is a loooooong drive home. On the bright side, tube frame front end is a thing at superlap, right?

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
    • Yeah dunno why johhny posted that here with no context, just post on FB/insta bro where he put it up?  Laine had an off at T4 during Thurs prac, he's ok, car is less than perfect, they are done for the weekend, he can fill in the rest. Bando also binned it like 100m up the road.
    • I feel there must have been a FB/insta post and the weekend did not start well at all I hope everyone is all okay
