hi, thinking about moving the family to the ACT, just wanting to find out what areas have good/bad reputations.

any info appreciated.

p.s. who has good insurance prices in canberra, just got a quote for my R32 GTS4 from suncorp metway and they say that in Chifley (PC 2606) that my car would cost $1500, at moment it costs $700. Is CHifley a good/bad area???

Stephen

this will hopefully be my field of expertise in a few years, depends on how much you want to spend? if you have a couple of mil you could probably find somewhere fairly civilised.

but canberra in general is quite nice. the better areas are places like Manuka, Forrest, Kingston etc. probably looking to pay around 400k to get into the market in manuka or kingston (i think kingston may have a few crummy parts though, correct me if im wrong?)

somewhere fairly nice and simple would be like gordon, gunghalin or Jerrabomberra (where alot of our members live) its nice, clean and affordable. but obviously it all depends on how much your willing to spend?

if u want your car broken into, move to queanbeyan

but seriously, chifley is ok. its close to woden center. but there are better areas. depends on how much u can afford

kingston doesnt have any crummy areas through it that i know of. looks nicer with the new apartments on the shoreline

Canberra is best for services and education. I beleive it is the best in Australia to raise a family.

Hey - Jerrabomberra is Great. We have a good collection of lines out this way. Prices $300k upwards. No real wankers out his way.

Have a look at a map of Canberra to understand the areas. It's made up of satelite towns. Belconnen (Just sucks), Gungahlin (new but sucks) City (pricey/slummy areas and sucks), Manuka/Kingston (pricey) $500k upwards, Woden (hmmm! Chifley is here and it's a mix), Tuggeranong (newish with new areas going up) $275k upwards.

As Veilside said, in general all of Canberra is good it will boil down to what you want to spend (Rent or Buy) Queanbeyan is cheaper (commonly known as struggle town). Another place down here to avoid is a suburb known as Charnwood. Also stay clear of Kambah.

I'd say anywhere round Tuggeranong for newer places 15years n younger housing.

Take a trip down and have a look round, chat to the natives.

As for insurance I reckon anywhere in Canberra is going to be $1500 upwards. No matter the postcode.

Tuggs is in the middle of no where but, woden is centrel , bleco is not that bad depens on the area, but yes stay away from charnwood and kambarr, shop around well for a house if your looking to buy there are some bargins at the moment

whats wrong with kambah?

well it is regarded as the drugo place of southside i guess + dodgy people hehe well thats the stigmata about it.

it really depends on what you are after

something cheaper but still good eg banks, gordon etc

something cheap and dodgy richardson, kambah

etc etc

ps this is southside only as i know nothing of northside

yeh...what's wrong with kambah!!!!! :)

it rocks!! (i live there, i have to say that heh)

nah i think kambah is a lot better than it used to be when it got a reputation...i've lived here a while and never had a problem - a lot of the dodgy gov housing has been sold off and done up by the new owners.

Stephen, Chifley is fine...anywhere around there is good - Woden's a nice area and close to everything. Curtin would be my pick of the suburbs there (only cos i grew up there :) ). It's an older area and you'll find most houses have huge blocks, but on the downside some places might need a little TLC. Woden Plaza is right at your door, as well as movies/restaurants, and literally over the road is Phillip which has car dealerships, tyre places, hardwear shops etc..

Course not.

Negative in the single digits ain't cold. It's when it goes to _two_ digit negatives.

Canberra's a nice place. Lived/worked there for almost 3 years. Coming from a bigger city, it doesn't matter where you live. Everything is close. It's no more than 20 mins to get to anywhere. Even from one end of town to another. Hell, I spend more time driving into work now in 1 day than I did driving into work for a week in ACT.

    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
    • I checked spark on all cylinders and they all visually have spark with the plug pulled and grounded, but plug 1 is the only one that fouled. This was a running swap that blew up and was rebuilt by a machine shop, put a new wiring specialties harness and did all gaskets, studs, and bolts while it was out.  compression is 135-150 across all cylinders. Aside from that from my understanding with the z32 ecu and maf the car should start regardless. The wiring for TPS and the dual 02 sensor/ dual knock sensor stuff shouldn’t actually stop the car from starting or even running well, (just slightly rich)  they just give fault codes. Car supposedly is supposed to start as long as you have z32 afm and ecu with the nistune base map and that’s info coming from a well known and trusted tuner who does a lot with SR/RB (Rsenthalpy). After more trouble shooting today where I’m at right now is that the cas is sending signal to the injectors they click while spinning the rotor, Fuel pressure is now set at 43psi, all cylinders have good compression and all of the plugs looked great (just wet with fuel) except for cylinder 1 which was very black (cylinder 1 has 150psi compression). all of the coils generate spark if pulled out and grounded out on the head. On the fuel pump car just pops into the exhaust. On starting fluid car will fire off. Hard to tell if all cylinders are firing off but definitley a couple. sounds like all of them but it’s only for 3-5 seconds hard to tell.
    • Final update!!! Got the front bar fitted and sprayed and all sorted now. My cutouts worked great and the indicators aren’t just falling off. 😂
    • Is this a brand new LSD? if so, have you followed any break/bed in procedure for it? Usually involves heaps of figure 8 patterns, a fluid flush.
