I picked up my new skyline yesturday however there is a slight problem with it. I found out if you shift to hard the gear selector pops out. I quickly took it appart to find the source of the problem.

I don't know the exact part so i'll try to explain it (excuse crappy description)

On the end of the gear stick is a steel ball which sits in a plastic sleave which then goes into the gearbox. Its this plastic sleave which is cracked allowing the selector to seperate from the gearbox. I can draw a picture if required :(

As im completely newb to this i have no idea where i can source this part.

Also of note the car has a short shifter on it but i think this will be a factory part?

Thanks in advance

As has been suggested, can be bought from any Nissan dealer. I just got one for a GTR....cost $5

If you want to post the car model and year I can look up the PN in FAST - saves a lot of time when you go to a dealer.

SteveL - FAST GURU :D

Nissan dealers always need the model and chassis code and can be a bit tedious. You will have to pay up front for not in stock parts. I ordered the cam belt guide plates and woodruff keys for mine today but they had them in Melb.

I've known the spare parts manager at FTG Nissan for the best part of 15 years...he actually appreciates the time saving. I'm to the stage that I can order parts over the phone.....but then I've bought a LOT of parts over those years.

Isnt it the circlip that holds the selecter in the gearbox? I cant completely remember but that is what my fuzzy memory is telling me, the plastic boot just makes it feel alot less sloppy.

There's a rubber boot that's there to keep water/dirt out if that's what you mean.

Tragic: check your PM.

Nah i know the boot your talking about, isnt tragic talking about the white plastic cap that fits over the bulge at the very bottom of the selector?

    • You'd want to cap off the re-entry back into the dump too. Just something flat that can be held on by the Vband.
