there is no better way to keep an engine or gearbox in one peice than buying a spare and keeping it in the garage. invariably you wont need it!.

I had the same thing happen with my GTI-R. I bought a spare box as they are notorius for breaking them. and sure enough I never needed it.

The rev limiter was set to 7800 which i used to take it to often in first 2 gears.Low boost was set at 14 psi for everyday driving that said though it was more or less just a weekend car and I only got to drive it for 9 months b4 it went all outa shape but every time it went out boost got wound right up at the very least twice during each outing so fairly often Id say just not for long periods.

Actually same oil as you though cant remember what is was though I do remember looking up one of your old posts to suss out what oil you were running as I new you did a lot of track days

cheers Peter

Runs 18psi boost all day long.

Dyno report attached.

that afr is shocking.. definatley more power to be had there

it did the 330 run at a show, they had the dyno (2 dynos) setup in a tent back to back with a divider wall, a few cars had feedback in the afr charts becuase the probe was so close to the wall...

its tuned better than that chart says

I will get a printout in RPM for the next tune to show how laggy the thing is, 5k it hits full boost :)

16c is referring to the exhaut housing size. It seems the turbo is the same as mine except it has an A/R exhaust housing off an RB25 or a 13B.

Grab a 8cm or 10cm housing and you will be making over twice the power at 4,200rpm then you currently are.

ran it up again on a shootout mode approved dyno so i could get an rpm printout, i left the factory rubber inlet pipe on for the run, once it hit full boost(24psi) it sucked shut so it wasnt a full power run. biggest limiting factor atm is that damn pipe but once we get time we'll knock a hard pipe up

she cracked 366.3 at only 5500rpm but as u can tell from my sheet above it has a slight incline so 370 might have been acheived

afr's go into the 9's once she hits boost :S but i want it safe so not to worried about that

the dyno operators say 400hp is very possible if it gets retuned back into a leaner ratio but like i said im happy to keep it safe where she is :D

dont have a copy of the sheet atm but heres the rpm/power ratio

2500 rpm = rwhp 54

3000 rpm = rwhp 63

3500 rpm = rwhp 81

4000 rpm = rwhp 117

4500 rpm = rwhp 198

5000 rpm = rwhp 342

it actualy boosts earlyer than i thought, full boost by 4700 and cosindering the power/turbo its pretty good

Another track day done and dusted. Im making a bit more power then previously and it feels like it to. Pulling really hard. I think i was running about 16-17psi.

Engine did not skip a beat all day and still is not breathing a drop of oil at 230-260rwkws. 10,000kms in and a general inspection of the motor is its still in perfect health and not showing any signs of trouble. So next track day in a few weeks is Sandown where the extra bit of power will help so will be running about 19psi.

I will try and get a vid up...i cant believe how well it now pulls in 4th and 5th gear. You can see on the early laps im coming out of corners going for the next gear and im going for where the lever would be if its in 3rd only to find im in 4th and need 5th. Its amazing how well the thing pulls in the top end....lol, the TD06 is no longer for sale. TD06 for life :(

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
