Mini in Japan

I noticed theres a a lot of mini's in Osaka and Tokyo, I see them more often than Skylines, Silvias, etc

Then I was browsing yahoo auction and they are auctioning heaps of minis very cheap compare to australia.

I saw a mini starting bid from 50,000 yen , 100,000 yen to ridiculously high.

But average good condition is just floating around 100K YEN thats very cheap!!!

and these conditions are way better than the ones I've seen in australia.

Is it possible to import mini's from japan to australia? i know they're available in australia but damn they sooo cheap!

the only killer will be shipping, tax and compliance

Its very tempting....

Mini's are popular here because a) they're cute, B) Japanese women love 'cute' and c) they're cute... there are some hardcore Mini fans out there who mod their Mini's and paint a big Union Jack on the roof with roll cages and hi-cams etc, but they're just an *accessory* as are most niche cars (long term Japan resi pls back me up :))... I'm not suprised they go cheap at Auction.

Whether the same enthusiasm can be found in AU I don't know.

Minis rule :(:P Ive got a nice black one im rebuilding. Building the engine up now. Bored to 1293cc, ultralight flywheel, lightened crank, lightened rods, ported head, hi lift cams etc etc.

They are the most amazing things to drive. How a car SHOULD handle.

soooooo Can I export/import one to australia?

cos not sure about the importation laws cos I think Mini's were sold in australia as well.... not sure someone verify this for me.

I would buy one if I can take it back with me.

Cheers for the replies

I will have to search that Mini dealership somewhere East Side of Osaka

Cheers Troy

mcnamg I might do that to save me from the hassle but I heard if theres a company back home that can pass the compliance it should be OK even though it doesnt fall on that 15 yr old rule

    • Just checking; you are buying an aftermarket headlight for your V35, and the new headlight comes with a daylight running light that you want to wire in? You have the option of just not wiring the DRL in, and the new headlight will work like the old. If you want the DRL to work you will have to wire it in on the car as it wasn't delivered with one. Best way is to add a Normally Closed or Changeover relay in the car, and wire: 87a to both DRL power wires 30 to a fused ignition power source 86 to earth 85 tap into the power wire that goes to the low beam headlight Note, you cannot use the much more common Normally Open relay for this, you need the DRL to turn off when the headlight is on and vice versa.

    • Hey Kaz, Unfortunately I am not at home currently and wont be for a few more months so I do not have access to my files or CAD. And at this point I prefer to keep the files to myself as I want to potentially make a few more pairs and see if they will sell within the EU before openly marketing them. But the way it's shaped and how small it is, I don't think you can fit both an indicator and a fog light onto the same surround, unless they were very small LED-type clusters.
    • I’ve just installed a Uniclutch sport into my R32. I’ve been blown away by it… it drives like a stock Toyota Corolla. It doesn’t make sense to me that a performance clutch can drive this well. I was about to pull the trigger on a Nismo Coppermix twin plate when I discovered the Uniclutch and decided to give that a shot instead. They’ve changed the game and I couldn’t be happier.    I was previously using an Extreme cushioned button clutch with lightened flywheel. I’m still using the same lightened flywheel with the Uniclutch.
    • Mmmm no, that's a white series 2 R33 GTS-t
