Put bluntly I know Im a hoon and I race. But if anyone in the car doesnt want me to I wont. And if I see a kid in the other persons car, I basically stop and let them go for their life. I dont want that on my concience (sp?).

Do them I say. A 1yo doesnt have a say, older kids do but Id say they still dont fully understand.

Hmmmm yeah who would speed in Redcliffe though, on Anzac Ave of all places?!?!

Redcliffe used to be great in the early '90s to go watch street racing, lots of wide long straights, but those days have been gone for a long time now.

But even so, kids, hmmm I admit I might race off the lights, but once I get the limit that's it if I have mine in the car, they are depending on me to arrive at the destination intact and I intend to get them there every time safely!

Heard this one from over here. what i find quite disturbing is that she wasnt sorry at all for her actions. this reminds me of EVL-R34. all she had to do was loose control and there would be little bits or torrie and worst of all kids thrown everywhere.

by yourself on a track, not a problem... 60km/h zone WTF WERE YOU THINKING!!! YOU IDIOT STIMPY!!!!!

It's kind of interesting. I am in two minds, yes, it was stupid - but it is her car, and her kids, and her conscience if the worst did happen.

Does it make it any different to parents just not supervising their kids properly and putting them in danger at home or wherever else? I am sure my parents and probably most have been guilty of that at some time. Are parents charged with these sorts of crimes for a lapse of judgement? In a way, when you start getting into these things it starts getting about taking the right of parents to raise their children in their own way (however wrong many would view some things). That is where it gets tricky.

Some parents let their kids do silly things, or put them in dangerous circumstances all the time (not watching kids near a pool, etc). But in a way, the kids are their responsibility, and its their lives that they are putting in danger. If they are shitty people, they will make shitty parents if you ask me, and raise more shitty adults to continue a deadbeat family.

Anyhow, guess I am not a parent so really don't know.

Does anybody have remourse about going at speeds past the speed limits after the fact if nothing happens? I doubt it, and that's why you do it. But likewise, you could spin out and hit another car and kill a family - its just different sides of the same coin.

It's a little rough trying to take the kids away for one silly action I think though assuming this was an isolated incident.. although would have doubts about that

As Dave said, yes we race (we being andrew and I) but racing with kids in the car is just pure stupidity. One night down the coast, there was a blue VR commodore with clear tail lights trying to race Andrew. I looked over and there was a guy and a girl in the front and a toddler and baby in the back (makes me wonder if it's the tool that got caught). I told Andrew not to race them cause there were kids in the car. His response was "**** that".. As in, racing someone with kids in the car. I got on the radio and told the people with us to keep clear from the blue commodore that had kids in the back and were trying to race people. Might I add, it was also pooring with rain this night. No one else in our group raced this moron although he tried to race them. Well, they had a radio didn't they. So the chick continued to yell abuse at us for calling them ****wits and they decided to drive even more erractically and followed us onto the gateway motorway and along. They kept coming up beside us staring in the window and we just looked straight ahead. Then just before the mount gravatt capalaba road exit I told Andrew to pretend to start to race them, slowing down and stuff and wait for them to take off, then take the exit so they couldn't follow us. I know we probably put those kids life in danger, but I was worried about our safety first.

Then the next weekend we were out again and this blue commodore was driving past andrews car yelling abuse at us.. We were just standing there going ok fruit loops *koo koo*. Then a while later Andrew realised that it was the same blue commodore with the clear tail lights yelling abuse at US because we were talking about them on the radio the week before. Since then, the chick keeps calling for the "scrag in the commodore" everytime they see andrew's car out on a Saturday night. I just laugh at how stupid and nieve someone could be racing with their own children in the car for one, and for two, doing it on wet roads around corners. Some people are just pathetic.

.. I really hope that "commodore" was him that got caught with his finace and their 18 month old baby in the back. Just seems a bit too conincidental that they were heading that way on the gateway, two people and two kids in a commodore and they looked as scraggly as the guy in the pic as well.

When you really sit here and think about it, having "kids" in the car is no more dangerous than having an adult passenger. The only difference being that an adult passenger can speak for themselves if they don't want you to race, kids are helpless and are oblivious to the danger their parents are putting them in.

/Rant.

    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
