pinging?

when driving, usually when i rev to about 4-5 grand + i hear like a pinging noise.

ive put in octane booster prob about on 2 seprate occasions and it dosnt really help. just slightly.

does anybody know the reason of this? and if its a problem?

cause ive been told, that if u hear pinging, and u still give it, u can blow ur motor, so u gotta back off. is dis true?

also if it is a fixible problem,do u know how much sumthing like this would cost to fix?

make sure you are running as high a ron as possible eg bp ultimate 98. what mods do you have are you still running stock boost. what car is it etc etc more details are probably required, make sure the engine is getting enough fuel etc etc

yea, 95% of the times i use 98 octane fuel, usually vortex, but only here and there i use premium unleaded from mobile (95 octane) only cause its all i can get.

i own a 93' r32 gtst, with minamal mods. 3" exahust and pod filter. also im running stock boost.

sounds strange that its pining then. dodgy fuel perhaps or has this been happening for a while ??? i would probably take it to a proper mechanic who can diagnose the issue and probably offer better advise than most of us. gl dude

but can someone describe the pinging sound?

sometimes i step on it and it sounds like something spluttering/blowing out the exhaust

is that pinging?

only seems to happen when the car is cold-ish

Spluttering etc is more of a misfire

pinging is when you can hear the engine make a sound that literally sounds like 'ping' - metal hitting against metal.

Caltex Vortex isn't 98 RON, only Vortex 98 (unless that's what you meant ofcourse).

If you are only running normal Vortex, then that could be your problem as it's only 95 RON.

Pinging sounds very much like a metallic rattling.

Try BP Ultimate & strip a few degrees of static advance out using the adjustment on your CAS.

think of a little gremlin under your bonnet throwing gravel at it, that's what pinging sounds like

it might not be pinging, it could be something like, bolts are loose on exaust or sumtin like that, take it to a proper shop cause you dont know what type of noise to listen for

Pinging noise .. it sounds like a beer can getting hit by 5 cent coins constantly.

95RON wont make a differnce on standard ECU, as standard fuel is 96 RON in japan.

It is not the fuel rating, i rekon its just dodgey fuel station. Try another one.

Take it to a tuner, better to spend 200 then 2000+ when ya engine dies.
