Bad luck Geoff... bad luck. Not nice to hear at all.

My car has had no tune since in Oz and suffers from a smoky cloud in the rear when on boost... should I really be doing the track stuff yet in your or anyone else's opinion? It drives nice and I drive it every day... no problems yet (knock on wood)

Id at very least run it onto a dyno tomorrow, hook up a pressure gauge to the fuel line, throw the probe up the tail pipe and make sure that the things A/Fs are safe and the fuel pump is giving good pressure. Should only cost $50-$100 , and will go a long way to putting your mind at ease, well my mind too since your car is my dream R32 GTR:)

OK. Just got home and I seriously doubt that I will find anyone willing to do the work with such short notice + I will only be able to do such a thing after hours... flat out @ work:(

Any ppl you know who could accomodate such a request?

I will be doing basics tomorrow night. Shopping for Plugs, Oil, Filters, Brake fluid etc... and hopefully have it all done in a resonable time to get up for the 7am meet with JAGR33. I'm currently 800km's over 5000 service point.

I'm a novice in every way including the simple things above and if anyone is willing I would appreciate a hand - I'll buy the beer!

Oh Geoff :)

When reading the start of your post i thought you may have only had injector problems, i was already prepared to let you borrow my newly acquired second hand 550cc SARD injectors and Nismo fruel pressure reg. already mounted on a std R33 fuel rail.

Then you had to blow those plans with your blown engine, so sorry to hear, after all that work.

:)

Alan

Robin, get all that fluff, including an oil pan and get to PI as early as possible friday night

There will be plenty of ppl on hand to help, i know i have to do some running around myself. Which remonds me, anyone going to Race Brakes, or have some RBF600 Motul Brake Fluid i can use, i only have about 35-50ml left:(

So if anyone is going to Rae Brakes full stop tomorrow, grab me a bottle please and ill fix you up tomorrow night.

Come on Chris read this thread and tell me how the car goes:)

Ill be coming to this one! Trying to keep involved with the SAU community still as I plan to buy another Skyline within the year, most likely a decent R32 , this time a GTR.

Ill be cruising down with WEST - hope to meet all you guys there!

Regards

Kim

I will need to ask the boss lady about staying the night:(

Probably get there by about 7:30 - 8:00 if I leave work on time and do my shopping real quick...

I'll be driving down Sat morning aswell...

Robin/Ferni - wanna meet in Cranbourne somewhere at 7am???

Sounds good, how about Bunnings carpark in Cranbourne corner of thompsons and south gippsland hwy? Leave at 7am sharp from there so arrive there 6:50am or something.

Robin: let us know if you're meeting us at 7am or if your going down to PI tonight. I'd advise going down to PI since like Roy said there will be lots of hands/knowledge to help out, if not where do you live?

Geoff: sorry to hear about the engine :P that sucks!

Hey ferni...unfortunately the anthony in your group isn't me......I'm in Roys group again. Oh and if the Mx5 in your group is an orange one he might be keeping you all honest :P

Andrew Hardeman Gold MX-5 8 1:59.350

Thats the turbo MX5 you're talking about i think ... with a 1.59 you're right it will be keeping me honest !

Geoff - that is truely shattering news mate. I as much as anyone was looking forwards to seeing the project in action. You, Roy, Denham and Gareth made for some mighty interesting comparisons. My fingers are crossed for you mate that it's not complete re-build.

Robin - if it's never been dyno'd / serviced since been in Oz chances are its just running a bit rich and is still tuned for the Japanese 100RON fuel. Maybe consider speaking to Denham about splitting the can of racing fuel with him? 10L in your tank (topped up with Ultimate) will certainly help if thats the case.

Thanks for the sentiments guys. Still a bit shattered.......haven't laid a finger on the car since but I'm going to grab a bore scope and pull the plugs to look at the pistons. It cranks smoothe but won't fire and there is that smoke and oil from the can. May have to get a towie to come put it up the driveway and into the garage as I'm not too keen on pulling it down in the street. Plus the lifting rig is in the garage. At least Robbie at Creatd can get individual Arias for me if the damage is not too bad.

Troy, I hear you but the blame is all mine for not going the extra yard and testing the injectors. Operational tunnel vision it's called in my line of work. Too focussed on the one outcome that other elements are invisible. This was meant to be a monumental weekend.

I had a few drinks last night and just tried to forget....now time to go pull the plugs.

Enjoy and bring them all home in one piece guys.

Does anyone have some RBF600 brake fluid i can borrow? Im runing a bit low and the brakes still need a bleed from when the pedal shit itself at Calder:(

Im hoping it was a bit of air as all the front brake lines were out when i was fixing the Winton damage. I hope it wasnt boiling fluid, i doubt it, but i suppose anything is possible:(

It's been serviced once B4 and I do, whenever possible put Octane Boost in with every fill (and you can really notice the difference... but still blows heaps of smoke on high boost)

Shopping for goodies on lunch break or straight after work. Troy, I will pick up some brake fluid as I also need some (did anyone see my levels @ the GP - just below the min. line? Not sure when or how... probably teh fang back from Apollo Bay?)

Is there a certain shop that sells it or can you grab that stuff anywhere?

Hope to see you tonight... still have not asked the boss, bit cranky this morning

Cheapest place i have found is Race Brakes in North Melbourne:

Race Brakes Melbourne and Head Office

44-68 Racecourse Road, North Melbourne. VIC. Australia

Ph. (03) 9326-6088 Fax: (03) 9326-3822

Get two if you need some, that way we can actually have enough to bleed mine, and enough to flush yours:) Shoudl still only be $30 odd for two bottles.

Does anyone have a bleed kit? 46n2 borrowed mine and havent had a minute to get it back:(

Will they be open @ 6.00pm? Probaly not. I will only be able to get this stuff after work and I'm in Burwood... not close to North Melb. at all. Any other places?

Got the nod from the woman:) see you all later tonight.

JAGR33 and Ferni - will not be able to meet in the morning.

Thanks guys. All I need now is a new power steering belt and hopefully some bolts to get the bigger rotors on. The car now has a very dodgy looking angle ground vented bonnet on it to go with the common rough r32 gtst look. The more go than show r32 owners like to have. Hopefully I can meet some of you at the bunnings cranbourne meetup if it is still on in the morning.

Take it to United Fire Equipment in Moorabbin, they will test your fire extinguisher for free.

Moorabbin

Woop. Just spoke to Cams, and they said tested every 3 years, and hydrostatic every 6?

Forget where i saw the regulations originally, for some reason thought every 6-12 months.

As for getting the thing inspected, moorabin is a little far from here. All the local people seem to be consultants or not interested in small tanks. Cheaper to pay $20 for a new one.

    • I guess one thing that might be wrong is the manifold pressure.  It is a constant -5.9 and never moves even under 100% throttle and load.  I would expect it to atleast go to 0 correct?  It's doing this with the OEM MAP as well as the ECU vacuum sensor. When trying to tune the base map under load the crosshairs only climb vertically with RPM, but always in the -5.9 column.
    • AHHHH gotchaa, I'll do that once I am home again. I tried doing the harness with the multimeter but it seems the car needed a jump, there was no power when it was in the "ON" position. Not sure if I should use car battery jump starter or if its because the stuff that has been disconnect the car just does send power.
    • As far as I can tell I have everything properly set in the Haltech software for engine size, injector data, all sensors seem to be reporting proper numbers.  If I change any injector details it doesnt run right.    Changing the base map is having the biggest change in response, im not sure how people are saying it doesnt really matter.  I'm guessing under normal conditions the ECU is able to self adjust and keep everything smooth.   Right now my best performance is happening by lowering the base map just enough to where the ECU us doing short term cut of about 45% to reach the target Lambda of 14.7.  That way when I start putting load on it still has high enough fuel map to not be so lean.  After 2500 rpm I raised the base map to what would be really rich at no load, but still helps with the lean spots on load.  I figure I don't have much reason to be above 2500rpm with no load.  When watching other videos it seems their target is reached much faster than mine.  Mine takes forever to adjust and reach the target. My next few days will be spent making sure timing is good, it was running fine before doing the ECU and DBW swap, but want to verify.  I'll also probably swap in the new injectors I bought as well as a walbro 255 pump.
    • It would be different if the sealant hadn't started to peel up with gaps in the glue about ~6cm and bigger in some areas. I would much prefer not having to do the work take them off the car . However, the filler the owner put in the roof rack mount cavities has shrunk and begun to crack on the rail delete panels. I cant trust that to hold off moisture ingress especially where I live. Not only that but I have faded paint on as well as on either side of these panels, so they would need to come off to give the roofline a proper respray. My goal is to get in there and put a healthy amount of epoxy instead of panel filler/bog and potentially skin with carbon fiber. I have 2 spare rolls from an old motorcycle fairing project from a few years back and I think it'd be a nice touch on a black stag.  I've seen some threads where people replace their roof rack delete with a welded in sheet metal part. But has anyone re-worked the roof rails themselves? It seems like there is a lot of volume there to add in some threads and maybe a keyway for a quick(er) release roof rack system. Not afraid to mill something out if I have to. It would be cool to have a cross bar only setup. That way I can keep the sleek roofline that would accept a couple bolts to gain back that extra utility  3D print some snazzy covers to hide the threaded section to be thorough and keep things covered when not using the rack.
    • Probably not. A workshop grade scantool is my go to for proper Consult interrogation. Any workshop grade tool should do it. Just go to a workshop.
