The base timing was adjusted too.

Made zero difference.

Cost me $600 to get nothing!!

So what was your base timing before and after? Did you alter the timing and fuel map (assuming you have a power FC or a S-afc in the case of fuel alterations only)

You can't expect nothing at all to happen as a result of a significant change in cam timing. Other things happen when cam timing is changed that make alterations to fuel and ignition necessary.

Did you try advanced and retarded settings?

I assume you still have the gear on mate?

Maybe we can get to the bottom of this :P

rev.

At the time, I had no means of adusting the fuel or anything.

It was put up on the dyno, power run done, old gear removed, new gear fitted, adjustments made to cam gear and base timing, and then spun up on the dyno again.

No difference. three of four adjustments made again, and still no difference.

See this thread for details.

The guy who fitted the gear now runs his own shop and actually tuned the PFC on my car recently. He remembers my car from the cam gear fitting and found it strange that the R34 showed no results.

I think some others have also tried this with the R34 and had similar results.

We think is has a lot to do with the constantly variable intake cam timing.

thats some good increases you got there benm from the exhuast gear and coil packs. Looks like these may be the next 2 mods i will have to do when the modding bug bites again as they seem very good value for money.

Jsut curious however, when sydney kid claims he has never seen any less than 15rwkw gain (which is very impressive considering the small cost) is that with any aftermarket management?

Let me just state before anyone runs out and buys one.

This is a fairly easy item to fit, but to set it up correctlly you need some help. Dont attempt to set this up on a trial and error basis or pistons will meet your valves.

I have found some info that says start at 4 deg's... Drive and watch knock sensor readings on PFC. Then adjust 1 deg at a time til you finally see the knck change then step it back 1 degree and tighten it down as hard as possible. Also mark with a pen so you can check for slipping at a simple glance.

Ill let you guys know the power gain. Im trying to get a dyno so we can run it in the morning then fit and run again. Give you guys an exact result and a simple guide on where to start. All info i have found said dont do it unless you can monitor knock sensors as this is your key indicator for limits.

Cheers Col

    • Sorry to hear your HFM BM57 was faulty,  did you contact HFM I would hope they would be at least grateful for the information if there was some sort of manufacturing fault, you would hope they would be sympathetic even if your item was 2 years old if it had never been fitted. May I ask where it leaked from ?
    • Cats are called Bella, and Donna...  Like that poisonous plant And I remember your 2 monsters, I remember making a little bit of wee when you let them out... LOL I have already installed cat doors into the laundry where their kitty litter is, and the sun room, apart from the cat doors there's not going to be any permanent mounted stuff on the interior walls (interior doors are cheap and easy to replace) I will get a outdoor cat cage thingie once I finish the landscaping out back... https://catnip.com.au/ The only off limit areas are the main bedroom and the gym room....but, currently the cats are curled up in bed, in the main bedroom with the Mrs.....LOL, the off limits for the kittens to the main bedroom lasted about 5 minutes with Jackie I currently only have 1 free standing huge cat tree multiple level scratching post thingie in the lounge room, but, I will be getting another one soon now that I'm happy with the furniture layout in the back room and have a perfect spot for it
    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
    • Not to mention they drive like a bucket of bolts! yuck!
