Just a quick question,

I currently have a Bosch 040 pump, which looks like it is on the way out

how much harder is it to mount a 044 into a R32? I don't have the factory strainer, as the 040 replaced the whole lot - can you get a strainer assembly aftermarket or will I need to hunt a s/h one down,

Cheers, Chris

Chris,

planning a bit of work tomorrow on my car some of which happens to include replacing the fuel pump seal and putting a strainer on the bottom of my intank 044. I think i have a strainer from a commadore pump, cant remember but will check if you like the look of it, i plan on cutting it and attaching it to the bottom with a hose clamp. I will try and take some pics when i have it out.

will get back to this thread tommorrow arvo

Mick

Clint - I have thought about it, but not sure if a surge tank is worth it considering most of the driving the car see's is on the road. What does it cost approx to get a surge tank etc

26GTS - pics of yours would be good

Hey chris,

i pulled the pump out today, such a tight fit now that the big boy 044 is in there. I botched the strainer so i ordered another one and will try again tomorrow. Here are some pics i took that i hope help you. Dont laugh its function over looks and i couldnt find anything else in the shop to use on top (youll see what i have used) . I think i had enzed come out and do the other fittings off the pump.

You will aslo see there is a bit of bending and cutting required. also u need to measure stuff so the bottom of the pump goes back exactly where it was standard, but im sure u know that.

Personally if i didnt have to have the 044 i would have gone a 040 or gtr pump (but screw a second hand pump) or buy a nismo one from greenline. Any of those pumps should be able to supply enough fuel for the power we are chasing ie. 220-230 rwkw. AND be alot easier to fit.

Also sorry the pics of the strainer are terrible, im not much of a photographer, ill get some better ones tomorrow when i try again :headspin:

Mic

edit: chris ill pm you for your email the photos were to big

Chris,

Shaun mounted my 044 in tank for me without any hassles. Its pretty darn quiet too (was installed when i took u for the quick spin that time) Only time its ever noisey is on hot (read 35+ degrees) days.

Its not too hard to mount, but i didnt do it myself so i cant comment on that :) Maybe ring Boost Worx for an answer?

Hey chris, or black32, if you talk to boost worx about it could you ask them what strainer they used on the bottom of the 044 pump, im trying to adapt something from another car. cheers

Will be talking to Shaun in the next day or so

I can't see it being too much of a hassle swapping from a 040 to a 044, just need to work out what to do with the strainer

Still thinking about a surge tank..................but not sure if its entirely nessacary

Chris

i was thinking of puttin in a surge take too, but the only times ive heard of needing them with the pump intank is if you let your fuel level go under a 1/4 tank when driving hard. If you do a track day, just take a jerry can to keep it topped up and you shouldnt get any surge issues....

Its one more thing to remove if you ever get defected though....

yeah, pretty good point

I play a bit of golf too, driving with a se of clubs in the back, they might bash into the surge tank and cause a bit of a drama

For a mostly street car, i think I will stick to a in tank setup

Has anyone seen a surge tank mounted under the car? I know there isn't much space back there, but I think it would be possible........

If you need a strainer then let me know...i have mine in a box in Melb. Im flying back to Melb for the weekend so can bring it back with me on Monday.

Im using the std fuel pump wiring with my 040. But i have read a few ppl use a relay and new power supply. Another thing i will look at before i get the re-tune next week.

:) ... i got an 8cm housing, and also a 6cm housign for comparison:)

That would be good mate, thanks

Mine was wired up with a relay, Tilbrooks did it a while ago

Awesome with the housings, will be good to see the results. Mine will be tuned when the pump is done, not enough top end power ATM :)

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
