My skyline has been banged up the rear

Recommended Posts

Ohh. I am so frustrated my beautiful car has been rear ended on the weekend..

I was just starting to move after the traffic had slowed down, minding my business and BANG this guy rams into me at about 70 km/h..

I have been recommended to go to a couple of NRMA preferred repairers.

Could anyone in Sydney please let me know if they have used any of these repairers and let me know if they were good or not.

Premier Panel Beating (greenacre)

Cols Body Shop (west ryde)

Adams Smash Repair (kirrawee)

Thanks

yea i don't think you would have walked away from that without any injuries anyway, up the back, side, or front. 70km/h is pretty fast (a fast speed to be bealted from i mean). If there were any cars infront of you, you probably would have been sent ploughing into them if you got hit by a car goin 70km/h

damn, 70km/h, i hope your not too banged up because the car would be a mess after being hit at that speed, bad luck man...

my mum got hit today by a garbage truck not looking where its going (only at very low speeds) and it left enough damage to the side of her car, so i can only begin to imagine sights of cars hit by others going 60km/h plus, i feel for you... good luck with repairs

Hi everyone, thanks for the replies, yes I am ok, except I did have a bit of a sore neck aftward but it feels fine now.

I had just taken off so I was probably doing about 10km/h at the point of impact meaning closing speed was around 60km/h but yes my car is pretty mangled. Spare tyre is sitting up higher so I'm guessing the whole panel underneath is bent and needs replacing. BTW, I didnt hit the car in front.

Anyone used Premier Panelbeating? Looks like I might go there..

If the tyre is sitting up higher might that not indicate possible chassis damage? Happened to my brother's Mazda a few years ago and they wrote the bastard off. I swear it could have been fixed..it was a good little car too.

Man, being hit at 70km/hr .... your chassis is gone buddy. I don't even need to see it to tell you that, has the NRMA dude inspected your car yet? Have you considered that this level of damage might mean it's a write-off?

Vision Smash in Artarmon just did mine and they do NRMA I'm pretty sure.  Car looks great and Harry really looked after me.

lol dude my r33 is in there now... taking its time. cant wait to get it back.

Harrys a champ he fix u up for sure. but they arnt an nrma approved repairer, jack hildermans in artarmon are really good as well.

Nah I didnt consider it could be a write off... Damn, you might be right if they have to do chassis work it might write it off.. Hope not I love my car.

If you were hit at 60/70km/h your spare tyre wouldn't just be "sitting up higher"... The impact speed was probably a LOT less than what you think...

Sure felt like 100 ks an hour but I know what you mean. I only say 70km/h because thats the speed limit of the road and it was open, and there was no skid marks and I didnt hear any skidding before hand just a Massive CRUNCH and then I put the brakes on again cause I was going to hit the car in front..

NJ: Get your necked checked out (if you haven't already). I have heard of far too many cases where people have a sore neck, that is then "better" a day or two latter, only to later find they have serious damage to the top of the spine.

Sorry to hear about the car :P

LW.

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.

    • Yes, but, I paid cash and I'm pretty sure the receipt was in the bin 10 minutes after I got home Note to self, keep all receipts
    • Bunnings would have just handed you your money back on that one!
    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
