15 year compliance items R32 - QLD

Ok..Well my 32 is *finally* blue plated.. Here is what was required. Note this may not be a definitive list, as each engineer may have their own minor variations unfortunately. But anyhow, this is what I personally needed to do on my 1989 R32 GTS-T (2 door)....

Intrusion Bars:: Required in both doors. In mine, one door had already been done (must have been replaced with later model door). Cost: $320. If both had been done I believe the cost was $520. For 4 door budget $300-$400 more, and each door has to be done.

Fuel Fille restrictor:: This is required in QLD. This was charged as part of the above, but think they're only about $40-$50. Not so available from your standard parts place however. I also stuck a "unleaded fuel sticker" I made up (don't think this is required)

Seatbelts:: These must ALL be replaced for QLD, no matter what the condition of the factory belts. The only brand AFIAK is "Klippan" that do these. These are quite expensive if purchased new. Cost: $400ish NEW for a set of 4x. Repco, or Supercheap can get the correct ones in for you. R32 requires the non-stem one buckles at the end - I think it's called a "stan buckle"

Childrestraints: Required for each backseat that has seatbelts. Cost was $15 each one (Supercheap). If you want it complied as a 5 seater, you'll have to do a 3rd one. Otherwise it is 2x required - and you're only legally allowed 4 passengers. These must be installed center of seating position - mine were done about 3/4 way back towards window. Personally I'd rivet, as well as use the center bolt (this may be required).

Driver Mirror: Must be replaced with flat glass, not concave. $15 or so to get the glass cut and installed from a glass cutter. I've got a tutorial in the DIY section on how to remove the glass.

Tyres: Not sure exactly: I put new tyres on the rear as they were shagged. Think they may just have to legal tread - although even that is probably more a Safety Certificate item.

High level stop light: Required. If you have an R32 GTS-T and stock wing, this has LED stop light in it, and will pass. If you have a 4 door, GTR, or your std. spoiler has been removed.. You'll need to install one.

VIN Plate: You'll have to get your new VIN number off the bottom of your import approval, and get it engraved onto a bit of metal. Stick or rivet on. Cost $20.

Mod Plate Certification itself: $250..

My car was totally stock (oh a strut brace), so if you have modifications things could get tricky.

Thanks to everybody who helped with bits and pieces of info over the last couple of months to get me to this stage. Just passing it back to help some others out there.

Every State has different requirements. Perhaps a list of these requirements can be tabulated for each state and put in a new thread and made a sticky? It will save on confusion and the same questions be asked over and over.

This guy sounds like a sensible bloke ;)

Nice rundown, and very happy to hear youve got your blue plate, congrats.

I'd jsut like to add that here in WA it seems some 89 Skyline's front belts are adequate for compliance and dont need to be replaced. I believe its the july onwards models?

can others please comment, as im not too sure.

    • This morning I carefully reinstalled the manifold and started looking at a couple of things I need to do.  Heat wrap arrived sometime today so I popped into the shed with the missus dishwashing gloves and started wrapping the first half of the dump and the screamer/plumb back.  Once I do the second half I'll be able to final fit the turbo and exhaust up.  Also pulled the harness out today and started terminating it at the ECU end. A connector is done, just need to run the remaining wires that arent in the harness - 12v, gnd and couple I/O
    • A31 is pretty much the same thing without HiAIDS I mean CAS, no improvement lol. Not to late to send it.
    • Thanks for all the replies! I also wanted to ask if wheels that were fitted on Ford Falcons would fit the 350GTs as well? In the area I'm at there aren't that many options for secondhand wheels and new ones here are way out of my budget. From what I've seen, most of the wheels that are available that were fitted on Ford Falcons have an offset of +33 to +36, with a centre bore of 70.5mm whereas the stock 350GT's ones are 66mm, can't seem to find any hubcentric rings that fit that difference though.
    • 215/45/18 tyres are probably a little on the low side compared to the factory tyre, it should be closer to a 245/45/19, which will get you about an extra 11mm of height, and should make you speedo read a bit closer to reality. 245/45/19s will be a bit too far the other way and you risk a speeding ticket as your speedo might read slower than your actual speed.  245/40/19s would be correct if you are going to 19in rims, they will give you a similar total diameter to the 245/45/18 tyres.
    • That's something I forgot to put in my list. The aggressive anti-squat in R32 is a f**king menace. I still need to decide if I'm going to drag the subframe out of my car and weld in the GKTech corrector kit. The main reason to dither is the need to switch to spherical joints in the lower arm to account for the twist induced in the rear pivot caused by lowering the front pivot. And yes...we do put better subframes in R32s, and I wish I'd gotten an S14 one instead of an A31 when I did the "take off and nuke it from orbit" HICAS delete all those years ago.
