a 99 rex is a lot faster in a straight line than a r33, both being stock. the rex is faster both on the road and obviously can launch harder.

if you think a rex has a shit top end, then so does a gtst they both die off at high revs(turbos too small)

just as a sort of related example, a friend had a stock 01 rex(bug eyed shape, slower than 99) and he ran 14.0 @ 100mph, slipping the clutch on the start (not a redline dump)

a stock gtst isnt anywhere near as quick.

(and i have had 2 gtst's)

I recently finished this project:

CONVERSION:

2000 Forrester (stock)- 96 WRX Engine (Front cut) 12psi = 120KW at the wheels

The older WRX's still used the same turbo but they had larger compressor housings giving them better top end.

This forrester has nothing down low but when it winds up it'll walk past a stock WRX!

This said I think the newer model WRX would have a tough time keeping up with the lighter R33 with less top end in a street situation even the older pre 96 WRX's would be struggling.

Reality is, in two so evenly matched cars the biggest decider is driver :wassup:

Maxx, the modded rexys you ran can't of been very modded at all. 180 atw is easy to get from em and being lighter than you they will pull on you pretty easy.

The 96 rexys had a different turbo too, it had more top end than the 97 onward rexys.

The current model rexes (03-04-05)are actually the fastest (and heaviest) wrx's made so far.

99's are sposed to have 160 kw at the fly too, not 180ish (i think) like the 33gtst's have.

stock 33's are around 150-160 (I think) :confused:

Hey peeps here my 2cents.. I had a go against a 98 model WRX my mods were FMIC 3in turbo back runing 11psi agint the WRX turbo back Carbon bonnet running 13psi (in controlled conditions.. both running in street tyres... first run i beat him by Half a bonnet second was pretty close too wasnt able to pull away neith was he.. maybe if i only haad 1/4 tank of petrol instead of full LOL

every lil bit helpsss haha

stop being narrow minded skyline owners.

rough numbers.

wrx = 1300kg with 160kw

r33 = 1350kg with 187kw

so power to weight is close but add 4wd and then measure them in a proper place (400m) and the skyline will lose.

no doubt.

and to make it fair, use the same year model for both. 96, 97 whatever.

Yeah, the (goodness) ranking is something like this:

1. GTR

2. WRX

3. GTST

    • All 3 I guess. The car came with the JASI Aero 4 door Type R Full Kit unpainted so this was one thing at the top of my list to complete then I noticed there were body panels parts for this kit so i picked them up along with some black mesh to fill in the front bumper and front side air vents. car is at a paint and body shop atm completing this work. Next I will be addressing the internal bells and whistles, great summer project I can do with the kids.  full interior removal - ,boys car sound deadening - pads and spray ,boys stereo, sound, lighting - Big 3, GTT or bigger alternator ,kids head lining - dye black add star lighting mod ,daughter. That's it for the next 5-6 months. I have some motor maintenance  work i have to plan out. oil filter relocation, gaskets, mounts. beyond that, mind is starting to turn over if i can use a DET intake plenum, block off turbo ports & pipe in a air intake.
    • roller coaster of a ride. Alarm system was removed & main harness was repaired where possible. still no fix just random successful starts. moved on to the replacing the ignition switch and relay. well all this troubleshooting & repair has been going on, the car is at a paint and body shop being pushed around. Ive been going down there on odd days after work to get it sorted.

    • I think he was only proposing to use the wire, not the sender. Simply because it runs from the right place to the right place. Personally, I wouldn't hack up the factory wiring like that. I'd just lay in the Defi loom.
