I watched this on 60mins and it looks freaking AWESOME.

I hope to buy a R34 GTR and max it out as the be all and end all experience that this world has to offer.

Can you please tell me what tires would be best suited to undertake a event of this magnitude?

Also does the salt damage any of the car or engine components like the air filter?

Thanks heaps for your info I am very much looking forward to completing this dream.

tyres for speeds up to 150 mph ( 240 kmh ) HR rated tyres

" " " " 200 mph ( 320 kmh ) VR or ZR rated tyres

most good quality radials are at least HR rated these days .

you can download the rule book for free at www.dlra.org.au

the salt hasnt done my car any damage yet . i,ve had it there 3 times . just clean it with air and water underneath . also because i drive it there i believe most of the salt gets shaken off on the road out of there ( about 150 kms of gravel and corrugations ) .

i dont use an air filter at all , just have an 80 mm intake sticking out the front below the front bumper . at high speeds it s allmost like having a low pressure supercharger ( gave me an extra 6 mph the first time i used it )

2006 EVENT ON 6-10 MARCH

I,m going to run the red wagon again .

Have done a few mods , twin throttle body set up , 6 ltr surge tank and extra fuel pump , adjustable cam gear on exhaust cam and a bit more tuning . Hopefully will get the 150 mph ( 240 kmh ) i,m after .

nice

that twin throttle setup looks pretty mean ass

huge surge tank(? - i dont really no how big they get but it seems pretty big!)

the adjustable cam gear would help

good luck anyway

yes couple of reasons for such a huge surge tank .

1/ i.m at full throttle for up to 8 kms and around 5 km at max speed .

2/ only need a relatively small lift pump running at low pressure ( bosch 040 ) in the tank , and allows me to keep the stock fuel lines to the front .

from the surge tank i,m using a bosch 909 inline pump for the high pressure side of the fuel system .

heres an earlier pic of when i 1st put 2 x tb set up on

damn thats a pretty hard out fuel system. i wonder how much of mine i will have to upgrade when i put the rb30 in. iv got a rb25de fuel pump for the mo.

good luck dude. are you sure you have good enough gearing to get to 240kph?

Am using rb25de 5 spd that has the taller ( . 76 ) 5th gear , 3.7 diff . This setup gives me an overall ratio of 2.81 Also i use the tallest tyres i can find that have a speed rating of 240 kmh ( 205-70 x 14 ) . 6000 rpm in 5th = 158 mph ( 252 kmh ) . Also taking 2 smaller dia sets of tyres for the rear to gear it down if i need too .

dading

i finally worked out why a surge tank is often used in performance cars

2 pumps - 1 low pressure one because the height diff between fuel level and surge tank is very small (ie small head heigt)

1 high volume one to have high pressurised fuel system as it enters engine

hahahaha i get it now

but.. it is important that the small pump can pump more than or equal to the amount of fuel that the high pressure one is sucking out

and dont worry...im talking to myself (kinda - i often 'talk to myself' by talking out aloud - wierd i no but thats just me :domokun: )

Went to Lake Gairdner salt lake and raced the wagon . When i got there lake had water on most of it . We couldnt race until tuesday afternoon . Wind had blown most of water away . we ran on a shortened course and it was a bit muchy in places .

I did a best of 141 . 18 mph . that was on my 1st run and on the short course . After that on the Thurs and Fri i did 2 more runs . For the secound run i increased fuel 10 % fitted new plugs and fitted cold air intake . At 5550 rpm in 5th it started missing , fuel starvation prob . For the last run i connected up the 6 ltr surge tank with extra bosch pump and had same prob . mmmm .

I did break my class record by 4 mph , and considering the condition of the track , and the fact that not many records were broken this year , I spose i should be pleased . just got to sort that fuel prob out .

    • I know people cry at the price of the Getrag 12-14k for a conversion now, but it really is a nice mid point. Not going to get change from 10k on a gearset installed.  $30k++ for sequential.   I know you run the risk of a damaged used one and parts are hard to get but as a street car gearbox its really hard to beat. If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
