riggaP
This question is almost impossible to answer coz dyno figures dont mean much. One dyno tried to tell me I gained 40rwkw from adding a high flow cat... If you want your car to be noticably faster, basic mods like full zorst, more boost and engine management should keep you scared for a while Somewhere round $500-1000 is all you'll need. PRO_32
I think the real issue is not what mod you do at what cost but more. The order in which you modify ie Pods and zorsts tend to come first. and are cheaper than rebuilds and big ext gate turbo setups.. So there's gotta be a sliding scale to determine the value of KW's to Dollars. Kor'axis
i agree, it's not really which mods but more how much $$ for extra kw after you already added some $$ to the mix Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/66735-how-much-for-a-10kw-gain/page/2/#findComment-1290724 Share on other sites
4door_Sleeper
a 10rwkw gain on any car is free NOW that i have your attention, read the fine print just disconnect the line for the boost actuator, and leave it open, instantly maxium boost at any rpm, butonly good for 1 run. This could give you anywhere from 10rwkw to 50rwkw gain and costs nothing to achieve................. but then comes the rebuild cost.....??? Cubes
depends where that 10kw gain is. 10kw worth of Peak power I wouldn't pay for. 10kw gain through the mid range I would consider. Save the money and put it towards a 30-40kw gain. benm
A 10rwkw gain can cost as little as $200 where as a 30-40rwkw gain could be $1500+ that's hardly value for money... Cubes
A base of 180rwkw... Its going to cost more than $200 to get a 10rwkw gain on top of that. Unless you do a free mod such as gutting your cat. That may pick up 10? An R33 with 180rwkw, The next step is PowerFC or if thats already been done an exhaust cam gear. benm
Not many people have an exhaust cam gear ($250 fitted/tuned) and get a PowerFC instead ($1500 fitted/tuned). Why not get the Exhaust Cam Gear first and -then- get the PowerFC later on to increase power further? Cubes
$250 for an exhaust cam gear fitted and tuned? I assume that incudes the purchase of the exhaust cam gear? Mates rates. Exhaust cam gear $180 Dyno time - $110 Fitting Labour 30mins to 1hr - $75 I personally would prefer to get the PowerFC in there ASAP. benm
Err no. Any brand cam gear is $150-170 delivered from japan + an hours dyno time ($60-90). Cubes
You said fitting? Thats more labour costs. Cheapest Dyno time up this way is around $100 for an hour. Besides the point. I see your point.. haha should be a poet. Exhaust cam gear will return the cheapest gain, especially if you fit it your self and simply get it tweaked on the dyno. benm
The hours dyno time included fitting (fit it on the dyno then tune it immediately). I think my 2 best purchases for my car (price vs performance) have been: 1. Exhaust Cam Gear ~$250 (fitted) 2. Pineapples ~$170 (fitted) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/66735-how-much-for-a-10kw-gain/page/2/#findComment-1311957 Share on other sites
Cubes
$250 is a pretty damn good price for the exhaust cam gear + fitting + dyno time and tuning. Who was the workshop that did the job? Best price I've been quoted is $350. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/66735-how-much-for-a-10kw-gain/page/2/#findComment-1311962 Share on other sites
Unscarred711
Who realy care's how much it costs per KW, we are all still going to spend the money to make our cars faster regardless. Plus it doesnt matter how much power your car has you will always want more, am i right??? Thought so, just like girls and money haha. jazza08
What exhaust cam gears are recommended? Cant you get intake cam gears aswell or something..? Sounds like good value for money (remembering i have an r32 rb20 not r33) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/66735-how-much-for-a-10kw-gain/page/2/#findComment-1322576 Share on other sites
dangerous_daveo
Id say a camgear is wasted to a point with out some form of an aftermarket computer/chip to get it working properly. Anyway, Id see it on a cost to worth basis. I wouldnt spend $3000 to get 10kw, but others would, as that $3000 is the last bit of money they can spend, as in, nothing more can be got out of the engine until that is spent, or thats it, no more after that. Other things, reducing weight or drag, doesnt actually increase power at the wheels, but makes that power more useful. Then getting the power to the ground, money could be better spent getting that 180kw to the ground rather than getting more power thats simply going to be wasted. Other things some mods are almost useless until others are compleated. Like say I got a big mofo turbo, I might get say 40-60kw more. Far power to cost on that. But then if I spent another say $5k to get a rebuild, Id be looking at another 50-100kw potentially out of that same turbo mod. Just too many variables.
