yeh u could do that... however im putting a rb26 in my r32 gtst for 8Gz,thats drive away! Quoted earlier 2day

I did consider that move.

I couldn't bring myself to part with 8k for a second hand motor with an unknown history. I would much prefer to pick up a 'to suit rebuild' rb25 or rb26 and have a fresh motor for much less.

8G's will easily get you a 'freshly rebuilt' RB30DET or RB25DET with a decent turbo and ecu & injectors, no doubt it will make more power than the 8G RB26 that doesn't include an ECU or turbo's big enough to make 300rwkw.

RB25 head - $1000

RB30 rebuild - $2000

Turbo - $2000

Exh. Manifold - $750

Ext. Gate - $750

Injectors - $300

ECU - $1100

Total - $7900

Obviously labour will be done your self with a mate or the old man.

Its not difficult to drop a motor in. :D

The point is for 8G's you get a lot in the way of an RB30.

Remember you may get the Rb26 up and running well with a PFC then it may all of a sudden pop or you may realise its breathing a lot. :)

It goes with the territority of buying second hand.

Joel- EGT gauge?? Is that Exhaust Gas Temp?? I dont run one, never realy heard alot about them, what can they do?

Apparently ign. timing is the biggest influence over exh. temps.

From what I understand,

setup the afr's correctly then keep pumping timing in to it until exh. temps level out and no longer drop.

Thats the 'optimum' ign timing for reliability and power. Providing it doesn't ping. I really do not know as I haven't fiddled.

retard = hotter exhaust temps, advance = cooler exh. temps.

higher compression also = cooler exh. temps.

Which is why retarded ignition timing + a leaner afr can help spool a turbo a little quicker.

This is all one of those 'Apparently' statements. :D

I have yet to have a fiddle to see for my self.

I would love to get my hands on a dyno where i can sit there and have a bit of a fiddle.

have any of you guys here in S.A had this coversion legalised? and if so what car was it done in and how easy was it?

Sky30 - you did this conversion in a 32 didn't you? also are you still using the RB20 box?

imho there is no chance of it being a legal conversion. Capacity of motor is too big for car...i think the biggest you can go was a 2.8 Litre motor (or something like that)?

Saying that (as discussed in the thread at the top of the forced induction thread) when you buy a new block from Nissan they come blank. This is so you can "transfer" your old engine number to your new block....get the hint?

I wouldnt put up with the rb20det gearbox for long. It will last, but id say the torque will kill em fast.

I've so far clocked up 10,000km's. But I'm not making any power yet. :D

Even so it has started making strange noises in fourth as it accelerates so well out of corners in fourth at 1100rpm with boost spooling.. lol

The torque can easily shread the rb20 gearbox, i broke the original RB20 box, and 2 vl 5speeds(similar gearbox) over about a year, but they all were punished hard and pushed beyond the limit....

The VL n/a boxes are cheap and readily available, but I ended up finding a R33 turbo box at the right price, seems to be doing the job OK.

I think FATS on this forum has an RB26 in his R31, with a Ford XR6T turbo hanging off the side.

He is using the stock RB20det gearbox for now.

he is also using a stock GTR clutch.

now, from what I have heard, and video's I've seen, FATS doesn't baby his car... he has about 280rwkw I believe, and I'm sure that the midrange torque from that motor/turbo combo is fairly hefty.

So there is plenty of life in the RB20 gearbox.

sure an RB25 one would be a better option, but when I do this conversion, I will not be spending an extra $2K to replace a gearbox which is working fine.

I plan to do my engine conversion for $5K - so obviously it will be a simple, budget build.

*yells at calendar.. "hurry up 2006"*

R32's came with the RB25DE so all capacity increases can be taken from a 2.5 litre base not 2.0 litres. As far as I am aware that would make the 3.0 litre (20%) an OK capacity increase in the states that I know of.

:)

Ahhh, but here in SA a emissions test cost like 3k +, and the only place u can get it done is Mitsubishi. Even then Transport SA are not guaranteed to accept it.

They can even say no to a fully qualified engineers report done in all states, with full emissions testing.

If Transport SA have any doubt in their mind as to whether or not it will be ok, they will refuse the rego (defect), which in 99% of cases will happen.

Hell, its even part of legislation in SA that no SAPOL or transport SA employee can be held accountable if they are wrong......go figure???:headspin:

I keep telling the SA guys to get their cars registered in Vic, Nelson is a nice town, just over the border, post office boxes are cheap and mail redirection inexpensive.:)

PS, NO GOVERNMENT can legislate your rights away under Common Law, you ALWAYS retain those rights.

    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.
    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
