Variable silencing system I think it stands for.

It's a system to restrict the amount of air through the exhaust to quieten the car for silent mode. Might want to check if the valve is actually stuck or not as due to being in the exhaust they tend to get stuck in one position a lot.

Since my exhaust is still looked as something stock (I'm not sure about this actually), I'm going to test it soon (I've done it before but I didn't realize somethin' different).. By the way, is it a standard feature for this type of skyline? Thanks! :)

I think you're right, NJR 34GTT.. So it should give a significant change to the sound?? :( One member of skylineowners.com in UK also said that it is common for this optional system to be got stuck.. I will investigate this as soon as possible.. :)

m-p,

I have a 98 R34 GT-T semi-auto too & mine that switch!

If you switch from Silent to Sports mode, there is a noticeable difference. The exhaust note adopts a growl to it - not as loud though as a cannon type exhaust you see on many Skylines & Rex's.

You can tell the difference just parking & switching between the two, but more so when you "load the car up" driving up a hill, then swtch to sports mode.

My girl gets scared when I boot it up a hill (she's not really a car person, unfortunately!), but relaxes a bit when you switch it to silent.

If you check the exhaust just under the rear bumper, you will most likely see two pipes of different diameters feeding the exhaust itself. There must be a valve that the switches controls to toggle between the two.

Mine is a Nismo exhaust (brand stamped on the underside of the exhaust), so I'm thinking it may well have been a factory option.

Wow.. Great, Mean_R34! Seems that it really works in your skyline, so I think I must check my system and have a test soon.. :P I can't perform the check right now because it's already late nite, and seems that it's so dark outside (everybody knows that.. :P ).. Thanks! :(
