Guys,

I currrently have Bridgestone G-Grid III's on my R32 GTR.

However the front left has been going down of late, I have had the wheel off and found a small split in the side wall on the inside of the tyre.

Now the wheels have about 80% tread on them give or take, however I have now got the chance to change the tyres..... I am keen on getting a set of R compound or Semi Slicks which ever you prefer to call them.

The car only gets driven twice to three times a month, and is setup for the track,

I am currently running the standard 16" wheels.

Any Advice would be great.

Please state the reasons you went with a particular tyre etc????

A big factor is bang for your buck, I am not looking at spending huge amounts per tyre.

Thanks in Advance

Mike

Hey Mike there have been a few threads in this section about semi slicks so it is probably worth checking them out.

Personally I beleive the Dunlop DZ02J are the best semi slicks, closely followed by the Bridgestone Re55s. Be careful of some of the other so called R tyres out there, some are nothing like the good ones

Oh....and they are EXPENSIVE.

yeah Roy the DZ02J are teh bomb.....replacing the D01J and do have more grip.....Mark ran them on the Targa car last year and was very impressed.

Stuckeys are of course the Dunlop distributors in Vic :P

Hi Mike, I run RE55S in the harder compound (SR?) 225/50/16s on my 32GTR - very happy with them.

Got them for $250ea

Done one track day, and all up around 5000kms and they're probably 40% worn.

I don't drive the car too much either now.

Ronin,

If you don't mind me asking where did you get the tyres from????

And to everyone else thanks for the info...

Mike

Hi Mike, I bought them from the Melbourne Distributor...

TRACKSIDE 161

Canterbury Rd

Kilsyth, VIC 3137

Ph: 0409 021 885

The NSW distributor for Bridgestone Motorsport is:

Gordon Leven Tyres

Emu Plains NSW 2750

(02) 47354500

I've just taken these directly from their site:

Hope that helps, cheers

Mike,

I have recently done a not dissimilar thing, ie shopped around for R compound rubber. I have found that the Toyo R compounds in the smaller sizes are well priced & in larger sizes the Bridgestone RE55's are a $100 a corner cheaper than such brands as Dunlops, Yokohamas etc. Both brands grip well.

My 255/40/17 RE55's cost me $380 each, whereas everything else was well into the high four hundred dollar mark.

I am heading back to Perth for good, in the near future... might hold off until I get home

Mike,

There is a post on this forum about the different RE55 compounds. Do a search under RE55. For Wanneroo I found the harder compound good, but they do need one to two laps to get them warm enough to grip well. Before that it is understeer city which kind of kills your speed coming onto pit straight.

If hill climbs are your thing take a look at the softer compound.

I have found most of those running in the local www.speedeventseries.com use RE55's. Guess that says something, not sure what.

Added bonus of running proper R compound tyres is that your GT-R no longer feels like it is cornering on its door handles. Stiffer sidewalls make a huge difference.

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
