Here is my situation,

I have an R32 GTS-T Currently running the following:

RB20DET (Internally Standard)

Microtech Computer

Profec B Boost Control

GTR Injectors

500hp Fuel Pump and Fuel Reg

FMIC

GT-28 w/gti-r exhaust housing

Exhaust and all the normal stuff

My engine is healthy as far as i know and am wondering how my RB20 would push a turbo of this size. Obviously i would have to high mount the turbo and prolly flow the heads a bit, but does anyone know how this would drive or how to make it more driveable? Its just i have a guy with a new T70 thats too big for his car and he wants to swap me....

Any help would be good, ppl with this setup would be unreal.

Thanks,

Matt

They are about a 800-850 hp turbo, so on a std RB20 with std g'box i think you will find you will be struggling to make any power with the thing.

RB20s can handle decent sized turbos whilst still being reasonably responsive. Depending on what you want from the car and what you can afford, id say get a 2835, or even a 3037 with a small exhaust housing if you want to be a little more adventurous on the std bottom end:)

Can i ask what power you are making with the GT28, any specs on the turbo?

LOL...thats cool, and easy to fix.

What size tyres do you have? For example if your rears are 235/45/17s, and your run was in 3rd gear then...

3,500rpm , 73km/h

4,000rpm , 83km/h

4,500rpm , 93km/h

5,000rpm , 103km/h

5,500rpm , 113km/h

6,000rpm , 124km/h

6,500rpm , 134km/h

7,000rpm , 145km/h

7,500rpm , 155km/h

So assuming you are running 17" wheels, then thats roughly 14psi @ approx 5200rpm?!?!?! Seat of the pants does that sound about right?

If your running 16" or 18" wheels these speeds will be different:(

Dude, it will work fine. Just your going to be spending more on brakes :( You gota get that sucka to spool somehow. Best way, STAND and I do mean STAND on the brakes and the go go pedal at the same time should make boost :(

But, I do think its too big unless your going to go crazy on set up to get it to come on boost.

Would the T70 even make decent boost (1bar) before 7000rpm on the rb20???

Serious question, not buggering around. :(

Maybe... Serious tho 3rd gear, stand on the brakes, it works.

My mates gemini with effectivly a t60 on it, and its a 2L 6cyl, if he stands on both pedals, it makes about 20psi by 4000rpm :( Wont make anymore, the brakes let go after that. Its funny as.

Depends what T70 we are talking about? The Ebay one? Or a somthing else?

My mates ca18det with the ebay T70 kit is making 260rwhp @ around the 7000rpm mark with 1bar. So one would asume a rb20det is up to the task.

    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
