Guys, i was wondering if any1 knows how to tell the difference between a 2.5L and 2L gts ?

besides driving it(i wouldnt know since ive never driven a manual nor a powerful car). is there any other alternatives ?

i worried about this becoz i dont want the dealer to be swapping plastic covers, plates etc inorder to fake a 2.5L.

thnx guys

you couls drop something into the bore through the sparkplug hole and find bottom dead center then measure the stroke to top dead centre. Look up this website for the stroke of the two engines and work out which one it is.

Or you could take it for a test drive and give it everything it's got, if it doesn't make any power until over 4000rpm but keeps going till close to 8000rpm(mine stops at 8500) then it's an rb20(and it sounds shit hot doin it) If it makes power under 3000rpm and pulls the shute at 6500 whilst sounding like an angry bastard it's probulary an RB25.

Hope that help

RANT!!! for fark sake.. and you guys call your self skyline driver!!!

shame on you...

u made my day :D

ohhh hang on. since the rb20de is like a camry engine(no power). i dont think u can import it under sevs eh ?

ohh, so i have nothing to worry about., yaay. :)

you can't import either from memory (RB25DE is just under as well).

the RB20DE is a top feed injector setup, wheras the RB25DE's a side feed. Most RB25DE's have VVT, so they'll have a lump where on an RB20DE it says "RB20".

r34_skyline - Just out of interest sake are you talking about an R34? As visually the RB20DE and RB25DE are very similar, I noticed you mentioned swapping plastic engine covers, which would only apply to R34's

Can't believe no-one has said this already, check the factory VIN plate:

HR34/HR33/HR32 = 2.0L

ER34/ER33/ER32 = 2.5L

Thus H = 2.0L, E = 2.5L. Note that there may be other letters between the H/E and the R, these denote things like HICAS etc.

This of course assumes that the engine hasn't been changed from the factory......

yes, exactly.

as u can see, i abit worried about this issue. i dont wanna end up with a 2L wannabe.

im gettin if from a dealer. im hoping they dont try any funny business.

i thought HR stands for 4 door ? mmm, guess im wrong.

If you have a careful look at this the RB25 doesn't have the Air Jet Swirl Valve actuator and solenoid found on the intake manifold runners...looks like the RB20 doesn't have a Auxilary Fan on the radiator either.

And the car will be VERY sluggish to drive, much like an old corolla

I've heard of a few of the RB20's knocking around down south, so it pays to check thoroughly.

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
