Gearbox hard to engage 1st

Does anyone else find it hard to get it into 1st sometimes?

When I'm at the lights I have to ease it into first otherwise it won't go in.

And also sometimes it's hard to get into 4th if I'm gunning it

How do I check the gearbox oil?

Could this affect it?

Any info would be appreciated!!

check or change oil, other than that, synchros can be worn. I have the problem into 1st, it gets used and abused the most.

I'd agree with deesh that it is probably worn syncros, I've head that using the redline shock proof oil can make worn gearbox's easier to use.

JiMiH , would doubt it's the gearbox oil level but if your still coming up Sat , I can take a look for you. Am checking Rhino's so one more won't matter.

My suggestion is to buy redline light weight shockproof , not cheap at about $140 but certainly solved a couple of syncro issues I had with a GTR box.

I've got exactly the same prob, 2->1, 3->4 and 4->5 crunch every now and then. I changed the oil last week, so I guess its synchro re-conditioning time!

I used PENZOIL synthetic, lightweight shock proof stuff which cost me about $40 and it is fine now.

Mine used to crunch going into 2nd (from 1st to 2nd or from 3rd to 2nd)

Considering it costs about 1/3 the redline stuff, it might be worth a look.
