Has anyone bought one, i have heard some horror stories but im here for the truth. Has anyone bought one, if yes then how did it go. Was it cheap build as suggested, or is it resonable.

Also which one would you pick and why??

T3/T4 or T70

Think installation time too.....

basically, there are that many trusted places that SAU people use, you would be mad too try someone else unless they come reccomended by a reputable workshop.

just my thoughts.

i wouldnt touch anything that seems half unsafe

Find out who made the turbo before you buy it.

I bought a t3/t4 stage 3 from ebay rated at 550 hp. it looks the same as the one in the photo. and i also bought the external waste gate pictured

First thing i did was take the turbo to GCG to get some gaskets and they had a look at it and informed me it had not been vsr balanced. and told me it will prob not last very long. They also told me they had seen sevral of these turbos destroyed after only a few hundred k's

I dis regarded their advice and put the turbo on my car.

THe turbo made a herendous noise and almost no boost. i thought the turbo was working fine but was too big for the application and was not developing enough exhaust gas to spool the turbo up.

after a week of trying to get it to work and after lots of research i decided to take the turbo off and inspect it.

To my suprise the exhaust wheel had been scraping the exhaust housing and had left big score marks in the housing and grinded the wheel to buggary.

the turbo had massive ammounts of shaft play and was useless.

After much argueing and stuffing around the seller took it back

(only after confirming the turbo was not vsr balanced from gcg)

The supplier returned EVERY SINGLE turbo he had bought from the manufacturer as mine was the 4th out of 4 turbos he sold to fail.

Thats 100% failure rate.

i would rather set fire to the money and dance around it rather than go through that again.

Fair enough... Thats good enough for me to leave it alone...

I guess all the turbos sold be little shops on ebay at cheap prices are probablly gonna be dodgy.. Thanks CEF11E thats the answer i was looking for.

NOTE: I asked another seller a couple of quick questions and he asked if i have started a topic on SAU called "Ebay turbos" I said yes. No reply.... LOL

The mod list is long and distinguished yeah just like my johnson (quote: top gun) LOL.

I used every bit of RB knowledge i have to make that figure realistic.

Re-mapping the standard ECU was the biggest gain. But loads of smart mods made it happen. The turbo is a standard unit which was high flowed and new bearing units and shaft and replaced with steel wheels. HKS timing gear on the exhaust saw a vast improvement to the top end 5000rpm+ but left the car quite boggy down low. Set differentlly you get heaps of bottom end but nothing up high. So for power figures it was set to top end. Dump pipe mods made a huge spool difference. A good quality elecrtonic boost controler (SBC id III) is a must need. Pod filter and CAI also solid pipe from AFM to turbo (no suck down) Set to 14psi.

ARC cooler atm, but front mount will be on before next run. HPC coated piping from turbo all the way to the throttle body. Exhaust temp gadge is a must to monitor if things are getting too hot. High flow cat (droped the tail pipe as i run a stock exhaust round town) GTR injectors on this car. Fuel pressure reg, used a SARD this time round. GTR fuel pump, will go to bosch probably in the not to distant future also. Split fire coil packs and irid plugs. Dont forget the TLC... LOL I also upgraded the fuel lines to a 3/8" main line and 3/8" return line. This also hold an extra litre or so of fuel.

The clutch was starting to give at this power level tho so we had to stop and wait till i get an upgrade. I have sorta hit a wall. I need the new turbo/PFC and Injectors for the next stage but now the clutch has to come before this. I think ill go an OS tein plate to do this job as the brass button i had in the last line was way to heavy for other people to drive the car, i got used to it but it was very heavy.

The aim is probablly round the 350rwkw mark... Pretty serious power. I want to make my first pass in this car a high 11 to break my previous record in the last line. So i am pretty serious about my cars. I like to keep them as streetable as possible with power to boot so i do thing a little different to others. I find this way i can keep a perfect combo of daily driver / weekend power machine.

To top it all off a GPS tracked alarm and alert system, this has not affect on power of course but security is my first priority.

Cheers Col

Not all turbos on ebay are dodge, the ones you have to look out for are the XSPOWER turbos they are they ones which a prone to failure. My advise is to go with a garrett turbo or garrett built turbo and also another little hint you can always tell a dodge turbo if it is brand new and comes with no warranty.

    • For these last 7 years of ownership, I've always had to use a small scissor jack under one of the front tow hooks to raise the front just enough so my low-profile jack fits under to reach my subframe jack point. I'm beginning to get annoyed of always having to do this. Are there any lower low-profile jacks that fit under the gtr lip on a dropped car?
    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
