Rip the N/A RB20 out and use it as ship ankor. Replace it with an RB20DET/RB25DET and mod that or sell the car and buy a turbo skyline. be realistic.

Dont mean to be too negative but N/A performance is 2 costly for what you could get out of forced induction for half the cost. Probably less.

out of an RB20DE!? There may be some ppl out there that can get that sort of power out of N/A but u'd have to really know what your doing...just seems like a huge amount of work compared to the forced induction route, that's all.

The point i was trying to make is- to me it seemed like we wanted to go fast (200 rwkw) thats why i suggested forced induction if he's on a budget. I wasn't rubishing N/A.

But if this guy really wants N/A than go 4 it i suppose...

Haha, mine comes out of a 4.5ltr engine. Not arguing yes its easier to just turbo an engine, but there is nothing like the feeling or driveability of an NA engine, and quite simple some people just prefer them. I have a personally prefer NA, and some forms of supercharged engines, with low to mid range response, im not a huge fan of turbos.

I've seen 140rwkw VL RB30 with a medioka cam and it made 198rwkw with a 75hp shot of nos. I've always wondered about the rb30 26 head conversion two cams higher compression say 10.5ish maybe higher, tuned length individual throttle bodies topped off with trumpets. I would say 200rwkw wouldn't be all that far off maybe more on the right fuel. I say go for it. I would luv to thrash those turbo punks out there with an NA skyline.

cheapest option: sell it and atleast get a rb25DE :(

cheap option: buy half cut do a conversion

chepish option: turbo current car (but you still wont get that kinda power outta it)

expensive option: V8 conversion

Speaking of which, me and my brother are in the process of putting a VH45 into my R32... with a manual box ;)

Good luck with getting 180rwkw out of an NA rb20... a 150 shot of the nozzle would get ya there :(

Wobbz - What manual gearbox have you found to mate up to the vh45.  I take it your going aftermarket ecu?

None will mount directly to the engine. We'll get a custom adapter plate machined up to suit whatever box we finally chose (thinking a rb25 or z32 box (same internals)... but still have to work out shifter locations)..

As for aftermarket ecu, yes! I'm keen on running an autronic... they're (in my opinion) one of the best ECU's around, despite what some people say about wastespark (who usually don't have a ****ing clue). My brother has had great results despite others telling "no no, wastespark is bad... you need CDI if you want good power" etc.... yet his supra is making over 500rwhp with this so called shithouse wastespark using factory coils etc.

:/

Although i havnt finished with my rb20det 280zx im already thinking about the next project.

Im seriously thinking about putting a built N/A rb30/25 into a 240z.

I was reading a zoom article a while back about building an n/a rb30/25. according to them they achieved a 32% power increase from just the head swap. that would equate to roughly 150kw at the fly from a stock 114kw rb30. Thats in the same region as a standard rb30et without any work just standrad 25 head on 30 block. not too shabby. Then think about upping compression, full engine balance, porting, cams, management etc.... I dont think 180rwkw is out of the question.

id love a balanced NA six pot capable of 12 or 13 second passes.

Take a look at this 240z vid. 3.1L stroker with triple carbs making 320hp.

    • Wife wanted basket things in the wardrobe in our temporary house. Thought about ripping our the wardrobe and fitting the entire IKEA set, but it's a temporary house and we want to move in a few years. So IKEA advertises this as a 50cm unit, however the actually basket and rails measure 46cm wide. Only issue was depth, IKEA stuff is quite deep, where as the builder special junk is super shallow at less than 40cm. Send it, chopped the rails, then offset the mounting holes, job done, happy wife, less shit scattered all over the bedroom. Did the same to the other side too. Also drove the Skyline shit box today, dropped off oil at Supercheap Auto. I didn't realise they only now take max 2x bottles per visit. I visited 2x Supercheap Autos.
    • I've seen similar actually in my situation. You never know what tables are attempted to be used when the car thinks it's -99C or +200C. The fail state is not usually that extreme but you know what I mean - it was in my case though! This is where being able to read all the sensors is useful cause you see this stuff really quickly.
    • The above is very important. However as long as you keep timing relatively low, it's plausible to make your own knock ears and plausible to learn to tune with a modern ECU that can do wideband O2 correction like a boost controller. I mean if you only have one viable road to even drive the car on, learning to tinker to this level may be worth doing given you can't do much else with the car...?
    • I find the fact that the rear plate has to be bent inwards at the rear not so bad: but the front is just awful: It's like come on. (these are my very old, now retired/turned in plates) TBH it is a lot of money to fix a minor issue, the fact I said "I'll never really spend the money on doing this" is why people ended up buying them as a gift for a 'car guy' who can be hard to shop for.. for car guy things.
    • I just bent the ends of my premo plates. It even went through Regency like that after the engine conversion and the inspector (a great bloke!) just squinted his eyes and said "I didn't see that". Plates, and how they look, are just something that have zero importance to me.
