Hi !

Could anyone tell me what turbo this is.

I bought it as a R34 N1 turbo though not sure if it is or not.

I have done a HEAP of searching and have found that 34 N1 turbos should have :

0.60 front

0.64 rear

9 blade rear wheel

No markings on the front compressor housing

These turbos have:

0.42 front

0.64 rear

9 blade rear wheel

No markings on front housing

Does this turbo look like an R34 N1 ?

There is no plaque

On the rear it has written:

0.64 428-2 TR7093

Any help appreciated !!!

Ok I will let you know these turbos are R34 N1 turbine because of the following:

1. it has no markings on front compressor while nismo turbos do ie a/r .60

2. it has nine blades at the back while r32 nismo turbs have 12

3. if it spins really, really, really easily than that means its a ball bearing turbo, while r32 nismo turbos are not.

Yeah those three points are valid

BUT

It has a compressor A/R of 0.42 instead of the 0.60 A/r

Apparently all R34 N1 turbos have a compressor A/R of 0.60

The A/R I can see written inside the "tube" part of the compressor housing (sorry not sure of the name of that particular bit of the turbo but where the compressed air goes out of the turbo and off to the intercooler).

OK guys

I ?think? I have similar turbos currently fitted to my R32 GTR (only just)

Part Number is : 14411-AA403 (both turbos did have the plaque)

Which according to Nissan are series 3 R34 N1s – with SS internals and BB rollers. They also have 9 blades

BUT

Mine also have a small separator between the rear turbine wheel and the waste gate (which yours do not seem to have – tho the picture is a little fizzy)

I have only just had them fitted and have not had the chance to fire them up yet, so I can't tell you how they will go. I'm waiting for PCF + EBC to be fitted in a week or so.

I'm also fairly sure they are .42 A/R on the comp side (can't be sure and the pics I have do not show it) and they came off an R34 V-spec II AFAIK

I do have a SQ (silly question) Are Nismo and N1 the SAME thing?

My understanding is that there are N1 turbos and Nismo turbos – and only the Nismo turbos have the .60 compressor housing - but I could be making it all up

Indeed they are the specs of the 34N1s that UAS are selling

A search of the forum will reveal that there are many types of 34N1, and I have now found that they came out in a 0.42 compressor as well as a 0.60 A/R

Pete you got the ones with the 0.60 compressor which are the ones I was after, so I'm selling these and will try and get some with the larger compressor housing. Either that or I'm also working on the possibility of swapping the comp covers over to the larger housing.

EDIT: have found a pair of 0.60 A/R covers so will see if these fit once they arrive. in the meantime have taken off the market. if they dont fit i'll have to put them up for sale again. here's hoping!! :(

Flicking through an old mag and they made mention of N1 turbos and NISMO Group A turbos. Both available through Nissan apparently.

Saying the N1s were same size as standard with better flow capabilities obviously and that the Group A turbos were identified by there larger 0.6 compressor housing. Maybe this is the confusion or group A turbos are something different again?

    • I don't know it is due to that. It could just be due to load on track being more than a dyno. But it would be nice to rule it out. We're talking a fraction of a second of pulling ~1 degree of timing. So it's not a lot, but I'd rather it be 0... Thicker oil isn't really a "bandaid" if it's oil that is going to run at 125C, is it? It will be thicker at 100 and thus at 125, where the 40 weight may not be as thick as one may like for that use. I already have a big pump that has been ported. They (They in this instance being the guy that built my heads) port them so they flow more at lower RPM but have a bypass spring that I believe is ~70psi. I have seen 70psi of oil pressure up top in the past, before I knew I had this leak. I have a 25 row oil cooler that takes up all the space in the driver side guard. It is interesting that GM themselves recommend 0-30 oil for their Vette applications. Unless you take it to the track where the official word is to put 20-50w oil in there, then take that back out after your track day is done and return to 0-30.
    • Nice, looks great. Nice work getting the factory parts also. Never know when you'll need them.
    • Thanks @jtha7 I will have a look around tomorrow but it is a prick of a spot. These are some photos i tried taking
    • I take it that the knock retard is from bearings tapping a little tune? Thicker oil is a fragile bandaid. You need a much bigger oil cooler and probably the bigger pump being discussed.
    • Hi @Chupapy i had several leaks from coolant pipes being corroded, i also had one leak on back of the head onto transmission. For me that leak was from the turbo water line. Follow the line to the back of the head The hose and metal pipe had perished these are the best pics I took of it at the time
