Brake Master Cylinder Stopper

I got a new front strut brace which incorporates a brake master cylinder stopper into its design.

Just thought I would post some feedback on the effectiveness of it.

As soon as I drove the car I could notice the difference in pedal feel. Instead of feeling a spongy/soft, the pedal is nice and hard. Also prior to fitting this I would get a slight vibration while braking. This is gone. I'm don't believe it alters the effectiveness of the brakes, but IMO is worth it just for the pedal feel.

ps I don't know the thread of the bolts used to attach it (first question I had when fitting). some bolts I had lying around fitted :)

www.nismo.com.au have them for $99. they also sell a strut brace with built in master cylinder stopper (what i got) for $165.

Remember to mention that you are an SAU member to get your 5% discount :P

I went and got some new bolts (so they were pretty and matched). I took one of my other bolts along that fitted and matched it up to a thread tester which stated that the thread was (metric) 6 x 1.0 mm. The bolts I got were labelled as 6 x 40 mm (ie 40 mm long).

edit: 40mm is too long go about 25-30mm

OK people....speaking of the clutch master cylinder flexing....today the clutch hanger snapped the spot welds. The two bolts that poke through the firewall, if you look inside the car there is a bracket the clutch pedal hangs off with the studs for the master cylinder going through the wall... It popped the spot weld(s) on the left hand side of the bracket.

It now needs to be taken out and reinforced then put back in. It leaves me worried what will brake next when i put it back. Time to make the clutch stopper....

(ive got a OS twin plate clutch so its by no means a heavy pedal either:))

We have had the same thing happen to the R32GTST race car and it has an OS Giken twin plate in it as well:cheers:

unfortunatly no. As the bracket curves downward making cableties slip off as you push the pedal in.

I tried cableties, and using some small vice grips to clamp the bracket together. I was stuck at work in the carpark, and had to call a towtruck to get it home :D

don't cable ties fix this problem Gary :D

Yep, if you use enough of them and they are big enough. Plus you need to be able to lie upside down with your feet on the driver seat headrest and your head on the brake pedal for half an hour while you do it. All without throwing up. :wassup:

You have to use one cable tie over the front to hold the others in place. It took me quite a while to work it out, but we were at BATHURST and I wasn't missing out on a run down Conrod. :D

      A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!

      Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
