Hey guys,

just wondering if ne1 had one of the new (or old) hybrid intercoolers on there car and what they think of it ...

if not what else is a decent cooler to run say 10-14psi???

Hyperflow do the best cooler core on the market. They now do a kit to suit R33.

Pricing is around $1990. This includes all pipework (polished) Clamps, Silicone hose, B.O.V. Mounts Etc.

I have a Hybrid cooler new type limited edition one it more than what I need im running 10psi made a big differents to power and I had no extra lag I would highly recommend one of these for the price they are great.

I have very similar mods to you and have just bought one of the new Hybrid cooler kits off someone on the forums and was initially worried that it was too big... but you don't have any extra lag? has it hurt the response at all?

hey chris keep your eye on the for sale section, you can't go wrong with the brand name jap kits, they mostly bolt straight up... just be sure the size of the cooler and piping matches your level of modification :P

2k is hefty in anyones terms these days for a cooler + bits

GTR items are good, a little more but then a few guys are using hybrids now i think...

wonder if there is a boost drop test or something that someone might have done

i have trouble believing there is absolutely no extra lag..

i have a greddy (smaller model) and there is quite noticable lag compared to stock.

this is what I would have thought, the pipework is awfully big in the Hybrid kit...  how much lag did you notice with the greddy unit siksII?  are we talking like 500rpm later than stock or ??

hey, no not 500rpm,

in terms of rpm there there is not too much difference, i.e say in first gear it will still hit full boost by 3 grand, the difference is in how boost builds..

with a stock cooler car once the turbo starts spooling full boost comes up very quickly, with a big cooler/piping the time between a bit of boost and full boost is longer, so basically is it more throttle response rather than a lot of lag.

my car wouldnt be a perfect example to compare before and after though, as i have adj cam gears, bleed valve and pfc as well which all make the boost come on differently to a stock car.

ah okay... sort of like when I have my ebc turned on and boost starts later but builds quicker... (I believe this is referred to as seting the 'gain'... ?)

I have a rebuilt motor with forgies and tomei cams so I have better than average response... I just don't want to dull it by slapping on a cooler that is too big...

I guess I'll have to try it and see;)

If there is extra lag it mus'nt be much because I did'nt notice any more at all. It would be nice to see a before and after dyno graph the boost curves.

guys, do a search and find sydneykids calculations on lag and heat 'caused' by the bigger cooler and pipework remember at 3000 rpm your engine is consuming 3750L of air every minute.....thats assuming zero pressure difference, adding a few litres of volume is going to make stuff all difference to lag......

i've noticed hardly any difference though i did FMIC, cam gears, PFC, fuel pump and reg, clutch and full fluid and oils change (some top redline stuff) all at once so the car felt beter then new, but yeah, u got a dyno figure or are we all talking seat of the pants here ???

Have you got a pic of the setup, dimensions of the cooler. For the life of me when i installed my Type S cooler there was no difference in lag, the car was actually punchier and with no form of aftermarket boost control my thing picked up 2psi in boost pressure:confused:

Also the R33 GTST which i installed a GTR core on, the thing drove way better then std. Not sure about boost as the car didnt have a boost gauge but to drive the car afterwards to me havingonly driven the car around the block before and after the thing drove excactly the same..the cars owners says it actually boosted quicker...(his words)

So i understand the theory why ppl think they may be laggier with a big fromt mount, but id go as far as to say that somehting is fundamentally wrong with the installation if you can notice a seat of th epants change in response for the worse:(

Unless we are talking about a 600 x 300 x 115mm Trust IC or somehting, even then it woudl be interestign to see if there is a real difference when still punting around with the std turbo!?!?!?!?!

    • Which solenoid? Why was it changed? Again, why was this done? ...well, these wear..but ultimately, why was it changed? Did you reset the idle voltage level after fitment? I'm just a tad confused ~ the flash code doesn't allude to these items being faulty, so in my mind the only reason to change these things, would be some drive-ability issue....and if that's the case, what was the problem? Those questions aside, check if the dropping resistor is OK ...should be 11~14 ohms (TCU doesn't throw a flash code for this) ~ also, these TCU designs have full time power (to keep fault code RAM alive), and I think that'll throw a logic code (as opposed to the 10 hardware codes), if that power is missing (or the ram has gone bad in the TCU, which you can check..but that's another story here perhaps).
    • Question for people who "know stuff" I am looking at doing the new intake like the one in the picture (the pictured is designed for the OEM TB and intake plenum), this design has the filter behind the front bar, but, the filter sits where the OEM duct heads into the front bar, and the standard aperture when the OEM ducting is removed allows the filter to pulled back out of the front bar into the engine bay for servicing, a simple blanking plate is used to seal the aperture behind the filter This will require a 45° silicone hose from the TB, like the alloy pipe that is currently there, to another 45° silicone hose to get a straight run to the aperture in the front bar Question: how will it effect the tune if I move the MAF about 100-150mm forward, the red is around where my MAF is currently, and the green would be where it would end up Like this This is the hole the filter goes through  Ends up like this LOL..Cheers
    • Despite the level up question, actually I do know what that is....it is a pressure sender wire.  So check out around the oil filter for an oil pressure sender, or maybe fuel pressure near the filter or on the engine. Possibly but less likely coolant pressure sensor because they tend to be combined temp/pressure senders if you have one. Could also be brake pressure (in a brake line somewhere pre ABS) but maybe I'm the only one that has that on a skyline.
    • Pull codes via the self-diagnosis procedure. As far as I can tell this is just a sign of transmission issues but not a code unto itself.
    • Hi All, putting the engine back together and everything is perfect except have this plug left over.. any ideas what it is for and where it goes? Is on cold side under the intake plenum *note not a stock plug, as everything has been modified Cheers
