Oil coolers

hey guys,

ive been looking around for a while now for a decent oil cooler. I have found one that is being offered on ns.com for, what i believe, is a resonable price of approx $400.

From what the seller indicates it contains everything except a thermostat. If thats the case, are these really necessary for visual monitoring and if so, are they easy to adapt to the kit? Furthermore, the hoses supplied seem to be rubber, would that be as good as braided lines in terms of durablity and strength?

I bought one of these it was sent today if you got it from Surreal cept I got it with the thermostat and some extra bends.

The kit looked excellent that's why I bought it - much better than the crappy looking ones that are going around for the price.

The difference between braided and normal lines is mostly aesthetic only when you're talking about $400 kits. Personally I prefer non-bling in the engine bay as my car is not a show car and I prefer stockish looking parts.

The only time (imo) that braided lines are required is when you're using lines that have a potential to perish or be damaged without the braided line and definately as has been mentioned over on ns.com I also believe a good quality rubber hose will be much better than an el cheapo braided line. I'd prefer good rubber than crap rubber in crap metal.

If you found a thermostat it'd be a case of cutting the line in the right spot and shoving the hose on with some hose clamps there.

The thermostat just regulates the oil flow through the cooling system. Its not a monitoring device, like a gauge.

As for braided line, there is a lot of misconceptions here. Almost all high pressure oil hose is rated at 40bar+ which is extremly high pressure, of the likes that will not be seen in a car. Braided line, was made to prevent the minute risk of a line letting go due to whatever faults may cause it, and more over braided line allows the line to be physically bolted to the fitting it is connected to, be it either a speed fitting or a banjo bolt etc. But the hose inside the braid is exactly the same as normal high pressure hose, its just made to suit the particular side braide you need, i.e. 1/2" in this case.

However you must remember braided line is not ADR compliant as it will rub through just about anything it touches, quite litterally. And yes it is a roadworthy affected item, which means possible canaries, where as rubber does not. This kit can be adapted to take braided lines if you so wish, but its not cheap, thats why i can offer you this kit at the price it is, as normally with braided line it would be roughly the same price as a Trust or HKS kit, as the quality is the same. But i chose not to sell a non ADR approved item for obvious reasons. If you need any info jus tPM me again.

Furthermore, in comparison to the kits that are available at the moment from asia, that incude the braided line and what not lack a lot in quality. The core is very average, and the lines look more like high pressure water line than they do oil lines. But its up to you, i've had the chance to look at them in person and wasn't impressed at all, especially considering i am offering Jap quality at the same price as asian generic :S But thats why i chose to do it, to give people the opportunity at 10 one off buy's that wont come around again.

I need an oil cooler kit.. and this is really tempting.. BUT anyone here have any kind of oil cooler kit and FMIC.. would love to know where you mounted the oil cooler...

I cant find any spaces that a decent sized oil cooler would fit next to a FMIC..

mine came here. i think it was the first time i've ever seen one there.

but it sure does keep the oil cool even even with alot of fast heavy driving.

its still very high up. and does not get in the way at all..

except for maybe a wombat.

Hey 34s have BUCKETS of space in the front bar. R32GTRs do not - BOVs, FMIC tubing etc. Also note that the front bar is very 'pushed back' see how they don't go straight down from the bumper's furthest front point to the ground, but sort of cut back to the underside of the car?

My oil cooler is as below, and it was a bitch of a fit. You can't square it up any better, because of the intercooler piping
