i gotta r32 gtst.. hicas is **** and i need to remove.

im guessing that putting a lock bar in would be the best way as it sits solid, but on the r32, if i was to cut the hicas wire (havnt searched on what to do here) would it be as stable as having a lock bar.. whats the pros and cons, as im on a budget

cheers

I have my HICAS computer unpluged to fix my HICAS problem. The steering is a bit heavier but the car feels OK. I don't feel the wheels floating around.

But I am about to rip my HICAS out as soon as I get all the info on what needs to be done.

I'm almost certian HICAS is fail safe, so the power dies (fuse removed) the steering will be locked - although I have heard it can still move slightly so locking pins are a good idea.

Cutting the wire will make the car highly dangerous.. as the wheels just float there moving around.

I think even if you remove the HICAS comp. or fuse, disabling the HICAS system.

For a safety issue you couple possibly have some shims made similar to that of the Tomei set up.

If you have any issues with the HICAS warning light coming up on the dash, simply remove the globe. :D

In an R33 what you have is an electric motor connected to a steering rack with no power going to the electric motor (no fuse). So the only thing stopping your rear wheels from steering is the resistance of the electric motor to rotation from the steering rack pushing against it. In addition, since the steering is not moving, all of the loads are being excerted in one spot on the rack, this will cause it to wear faster as it is not sharing the load. Hence you will get a sloppy spot on the rack which will enable the rear wheels to knock around slightly all the time.

Bottom lin,. not a good idea

Flipping the topic over....

My hicas light is on 24/7 and I want to enable the hicas on my line again...when I bought it, it was disabled and the guy I bought it from said he just disconnected something from the back.

I just had a look and the rear fuse box has a 20A fuse in the hicas spot which is all good (although i will remove the fuse tommorow to check if its blown).

I noticed 2 silver boxes near the fuse box hanging from the roof. The top one larger than the bottom one. If anyone knows the boxes im describing then are any of these 2 the hicas computer? If so i guess something could be disconnected from them.

Any other places I can check for a loose wire/fuse before I realise he sold me a ****ed hicas system and said it was just disconnected? :P

    • Hi...so a "development" here aswell The swap is "done" and car went "test drive" BUT it seems the clutch(maybe gearbox?) is a little bit sad? I bought this clutch kit https://justjap.com/products/xtreme-heavy-duty-organic-clutch-flywheel-kit-nissan-skyline-r31-r32-r33-push-type "Problem" is that the first gear is hard to put into and it seems that the clutch is not disengaged. It was not the problem with the old clutch...(or like sometime the first gear would not get as easy specialy when the fluid was cold) So? Can it be like...bad "install" or is the clutch wrong ((it should not have been) i done research to get the right one) Or is this "normal" with new clutch and needs to be break in?
    • @Duncan I can try  and thanks i did not thought about VIN and part numbers for 33/34. @GTSBoy yeah it looks like iam gonna do that
    • Forgot to include this but this is the mid section of my steering rack that looks like it has a thread/can be turned with that notch mentioned in the post:
    • Hey everyone, Wanted to pick some brains about this issue I'm having with rebuilding my 33 rack (PN is 49001-19U05). All of the tutorials/videos I've seen online are either R34 or S Chassis racks which seem to be pretty straightforward to disassemble but this process doesnt carry over to my rack. Few of the key differences that I've noted The pinion shaft on the other racks bolt on with 3 torx bolts: Whereas my rack bolts on with 2 allen head bolts: These changes are pretty inconsequential but the main difference is how you pull the actual rack out of the housing. The other skyline/s chassis racks can be taken out by tapping the rack out of the body with a socket and it just slides right out. I'm unable to do that with my rack because there's a hard stop at the end that doesn't let the seal/shaft be tapped out. Can also see a difference in the other end of the rack where mine has a notch that looks like you're able to use a big wrench to unthread 2 halves of the rack whereas the other racks are just kinda set in with a punch. My rack: Other racks: TLDR; Wanted to know if anyone has rebuilt this specific model of steering rack for the R33 and if there were any steps to getting it done easier or if I should just give this to a professional to get done. Sorry if this post is a bit messy, first one I've done.
    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
