I went out for a spin last night, everything was running sweet for half an hour or so untill all of a sudden the car started missing under load, basically as soon as it makes more than 4psi. It was like someone flicked a switch!

I have read thousands of posts about plugs and coils but i'm not sure this is the same thing.

The car is a R33 Series 1. Stock except for:-

3 inch turbo back exhaust

K&N filter eliment

Boost solinoid set to permanent high boost

All mods have done over 20000KM

The problem

missing when under load/boosting more than 4psi(approx),

runs smooth off boost, even at higher revs as long as it's not boosting

Does a coil pack or plugs go off this quickly or should i be looking for something else. It was running fine, then three seconds later it was running like shit!

Any help very much appreciated

will be pulling the plugs later today. i have platnums in there , if i think one could possibly be a little fowled i'll put a brand new set of coppers in.

the boost is standard, i have just hardwired the standard high/low solenoid.

as for the revs, it has an occasional mis around 3000 and it's really bad around 4000.

i tried driving through the miss but it is the same up higher

ok, put new plugs in tonight, the missing isn't as bad now.

i think this could be due to me regapping the new plugs down to .8, the old ones were 1.1. So it looks like it was the coils after all.

I managed to pick up a bit more boost too, i must have sealed a leak when i was re-attaching everything.

Does anyone know where to get some spitfire coils in Australia at a reasonable price? I know there is a group buy but my car is a daily driver and i don't want to have to wait that long.

A friend of my had problems with the colis in his getz (not a skyline but still has spark plugs). They were leaking bad (big sparks from the coils at night). He took it to the dealer and they were able to read the voltage off each coil.

But if you want to replace one coil pack you might aswell do all of them otherwise the problem will repeat itself down the track.

So as sumo said check out that other thread

    • haha don't worry I'm sue you've got more fun ahead buying a 30 year old turbo car....but at least you are in the right place to ask
    • some days eh? The keyless entry and interior light on/off with the key will be controlled by the Body Control Module, but I'm not certain where that is or what it looks like (you might get lucky with a search to get a part#, which could be printed on it). I'd start at the A pillar/ Under dash/kick panel on the driver's side
    • It might be hit and miss, but Nissan Genuine Parts and Pitworks are not the same thing, although both are available from Nissan Dealers with Nissan Part Numbers. Nissan Genuine Parts are the OEM stuff, Pitworks are their attempt to get people back from generic parts makers
    • I did end up getting it sorted, as GTSBoy said, there was a corroded connection and wire that needed to be replaced. I ended up taking out the light assembly, giving everything a good clean and re-soldered the old joints, and it came out good.
    • Wow, thanks for your help guys 🙏. I really appreciate it. Thanks @Rezz, if i fail finding any new or used, full or partial set of original Stage carpets i will come back to you for sure 😉 Explenation is right there, i just missed it 🤦‍♂️. Thanks for pointing out. @soviet_merlin in the meantime, I received a reply from nengun, and i quote: "Thanks for your message and interest in Nengun. KG4900 is for the full set of floor mats, while KG4911 is only the Driver's Floor Mat. FR, RH means Front Right Hand Side. All the Full Set options are now discontinued. However, the Driver's Floor Mat options are still available according to the latest information available to us. We do not know what the differences would be, but if you only want the one mat, we can certainly see what we can find out for you". Interesting. It seems they still have some "new old stock" that Duncan mentioned 🤔. I wonder if they can provide any photos......And i also just realized that amayama have G4900 sets. I'm tempted too.
