Armed with a datalog of an hour or so on the weekend I will go over my knock map and then up the timing as needed to aim for a knock of 10 all around the map.

Here's what a 2 minute logging run looks for like a "knock map" view for those interested. Very helpful stuff kudos to datalogit (thanks again Jono)

has anyone experimented with turning on VCT earlier or later in the rpm range? worth experimenting with or is it one of those "dont f**k with" settings?

cheers

where did you get 19deg from? you can see part of my ign map from the screen capture. ill post the entire thing tonight when i am at home. its with 0.85bar boost. full 3" exhaust. fmic. pod filter

define "load" do you mean airflow "load" if so then it runs across load point 16ish at max load as the stock afm calibartion only lets you goto load point 16ish

this is my current tune. i made some more changes tonight and have uploaded. for those who are new with datalogit be careful as the default action when datalogit is first opened and loaded (assuming plugged in OK) and if you accidently hit enter is to write the default maps over the top of your tune so be careful (what a silly design flaw).

rename the map file to .dat and open with datalogit

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm about to go do some experimenting on my PowerFC with the help of PaulR33's map cross-referenced with mine. Since I seemed to have little trouble when testing with the +5 setting on light throttle, what I intend to do is compare the 2 maps in the N/L 1 to 10 range. Then wherever I find my timing is less than his, increase it by +5 or up to whatever he has set, whichever is less. In the areas where my timing is the same or more than his I'm leaving it that way.

Does this sound like a good idea? Anything I should be wary of that isn't already covered in the thread?

Hey Paul, you reckon you could add a quick Datalogit guide on your PowerFC manual page. If it's that easy to lose your map maybe a breif "Getting Started" with steps on how to download your current map/compare to stock map.

Just scared me with how easy it is to lose current map - I'd hate to lend to a friend and they lost their current map they spent $700 on getting tuned.

Would be great,

Penfold

Best thing to do is back up the tune manually, especially if you spent so much money/time on it. It only takes about an hour to write down all the settings from fuel and ignition maps from the hand controller. You can use a lot of shorthand in the areas where all the numbers are the same. I did that then typed it all up into a spreadsheet which was even quicker.

quick question,

if i want to speed up the spool time of my turbo, during the boost buildup load points do i advance timing to a certain point (until knocking occurs)??? Also does having it abit on the rich side at these boost buildup load points help spool or is it better be more on the lean side???

its a rb20det

cheers

george

Hey Paul, any chance of fixing up the word wrap on your FAQ? At the moment most of the text is a bit too wide to fit on my screen so I have to constantly scroll across and back again for each line while I read it.

    • Just wanted to pop in an update on my setup. The CD swap has been great, I love the mazworks housing for the overall simplicity. I ended up sealing my trans tunnel with a thin sheet of aluminum reused some of the holes on the trans tunnel, and laid some window sealing EPS foam around the edges. Works great, really quieted things down and sealed up the car.  As for the power comment. Right now I am also running about 650whp. with the way the bell housing is attached to the face of the transmission I have zero doubts it would be fine, mainly because the input shaft and main shaft bearings are seated into the bell housing adapter. This means the load is NOT on the bolts to maintain the power, rather into he casing of the bell housing; Yes the bolts are doing some work there, but with both shafts locked in zero worries.  End of the day, the Mazworks solution is the easiest and safest. no need to take your trans to a shop to get milled perfectly, it fits with minimal clearancing, and you can use all your existing clutch and flywheel.  Driving wise the CD has been great compared to the big box, I'll probably swap my final drive at some point. The serial 9 shifter is gooooood, my only qualm is how tight it is, it takes a fair bit to get use to, 5th and 6th are a bit eh/hard to find at times, but maybe I need re-adjusting, and I think my clutch master is very tired and needs a rebuild.
    • If you are keen, have a look at my build thread. Car is for sale for the right money or straight swap for a F80 M3 LCI.
    • Welcome mate.  No point in over thinking it, buying any one of those cars you mentioned is not a smart or logical choice with the availability of many "better" (re price to performance) cars available to you.  The heart wants what the heart wants, buy whatever it leads you too.
    • Hey everyone! Im so grateful to be apart of this community and ill do my best to be apart of this. Firstly, i'm not disclosing my real name due to in real life circumstances surrounding my privacy and public image (sorry lol) Secondly, The only thing personal I am willing to share is that I'm from Sydney and a descendant of one of Sydneys largest mortgage firms. I got gifted my first ever car, a 2022 Porsche Cayenne and I love it to death. Ive been driving it for about 5 or 6 months now and honestly Im so grateful for my parents for gifting me this vehicle. However recently I've been working my ass off to afford my second car (which I need help deciding soooooo community help me out please?). Once decided, im planning to try modify it myself. Recent I've been thinking about getting a Skyline, particularly a 25GT or GT-V, yes I know overrated as hell, but I'm also considering a Chaser which I recently came to love. However my dream is to one day own a 180SX (So hard to find clean versions and im not really into importing).  Lastly before I send this off, I want to apologize if I sound tacky or pretentious. I try not to and want to genuinely learn from everyone and anyone. (Im no expert in this area) Thanks for reading!
